"It's not how many knee rolls you have... it's how you use them. Unless, of course, you have no knee rolls. In that case, you can take your flat-ass pads and get out of here! Knee rolls forever! Oh dang, a solar eclipse, we should probably ritualistically decapitate someone." - Ancient Incan Proverb

Kenesky does seem to be trying to revive that split top knee roll that we've all been discussing... they've showcased it in several pads, and I was asked if I wanted the 4 knee rolls when I commissioned my pads (I went with ye olde three rolls).

From a few seasons ago, but gear is mostly still the same.  I have flirted with switching up a few things, but I am overall very happy.  I have had most of this gear since college (graduated in 2010, played ACHA D1).

Here's the gear list...

Mask: Eddy Custom Kevlar

Pads: Smith 2000s that I had Pete make in summer 2008.  34+2ish.  Still fit and slide like a dream.

Blocker: McKenney 895 Extreme Pro (LOVED the Itech/Bauer XR10 and this is a clone)

Glove: Zero-G (have gone through a couple of these...always interested in buying a Zero-G (new))

Pants: Reebok Pro

C/A: custom V3...Large body, medium arms is the only custom thing, though.

Skates: One100s with 4MM steel

Stick: this was the Simmons Pro Series with Turco curve.  I am a sucker for the heel wedge and now I am working with some Christian 880s with a Price curve.  Always 25" paddle (26.5 Goalie Monkey measurement)

Jock: Bauer Pro something or other

To be fair, he's a hell of a lot better than the rest of us. ;)

Maybe more straps = better goalie'ing.

It has to be a stubborn comfort thing... With all the advancements in materials and strapping, some guys are still needing 6 leather straps... You think with all the ice they get they could demo and use the newer stuff to get comfortable with it... Same applies to Anderson's Optiks and most guys wearing CCM

+1, except I use the ARS toe straps... Shit like this always makes me shake my head:

I agree with that sentiment, even if that's pretty much what I used to have. To me the minimal straps+really loose straps are so far out there for me to imagine using since I've never done it. I suppose I'd need the right pad to try it with.

There’s an inner wrap / strap, sorta like a professor strap, you can’t see in that EF3 pic

Fair enough.

Lontime listener, 1st time caller. Missed GSBB so loving this place. I’ve used what feels like hundreds of different pieces of gear and this is what I’ve settled on... for now. Here’s the setup-

Bucket- 961 with gold cateye. Painted myself. Usually use a Sportmask 515 but it has a badly dented cage right now. Both have Maltese and Sportmask chin cups.

Pads- Vaughn V7 XF. Size has settled to a 35”+2. Custom pulse graphic a la Ward’s demo set from 2009. Custom ordered through TGC, they were my dream pads and still are. Custom strapping

Gloves- Vaughn Epic 8800. Glove has a vision T and skate lace along with a game ready palm. Blocker has a leather palm and carbon board. Super light and comfortable. Dream gloves.

C/A- Pro return Ventus LT98. Vaughn has long been the most comfortable chesty to me and this one is light and mobile.

Pants- Vaughn V6 pants. They’re protective but not too light honestly. Retail pants are underwhelming. Knee guards are PAW and are another critical piece of gear.

Sticks- Currently using Bauer 9000 pro returns in 25.5” p31. Bauer sticks till I die.

Any questions, fire away! Have some pics of setups from past seasons too.106652E3-FD92-4F43-8BED-C9F9F9244FF7.thumb.jpeg.c7a0edbb251dd10099693ccad72288a0.jpegB17BF8B2-A85C-4AF4-BB57-D0F5663B2EDD.thumb.jpeg.418e10c26d083de1ed39ad66d54b0e1d.jpegBDD061B2-60E8-49E2-B02B-55D173491639.thumb.jpeg.cb7cde9c3e1b3223e90e1719d2f2efaf.jpeg7EF14866-2F80-4D1F-AABE-E6FD55ADCE69.thumb.jpeg.9b18609144c155876cd5304f080e1d48.jpeg
