Hi, long-time listener, first-time caller. I only just signed up.

Because of what I’ve read on this thread, I just sat down and measured my G3s. They’re G3 Seniors, size 33 + 1.5”, stock (one break below the knee), 10 months old.

Across the break, which is also the widest part of the pad, they’re exactly 11” from edge to edge (3rd & 4th photos).

At the boot break, they’re 10.75” (1st photo).

At the top of the thigh rise, they’re 10.5” (this surprised me) (2nd photo).

To me, this says that they’ve been manufactured to the legal maximum width at the widest part of the pad, with a slight taper both up and down the pad from there.

I imagine that any other pad would have a similar taper, probably more so (visually, Warriors are the most cartoonishly boxy pads, ie it looks to me like other brands taper more).

Alternatively, maybe they were made at 10.5” but the pad face has widened over time.

Some on ice impressions from Source for Sports. Have to say, I'm still skeptical on the air slide, but just from the start of that video they look like they slide really well.

Very interesting about the comments about sliding on chopping ice

That is why I find the Optik sliding ability to be so impressive

The other pads on the market I find to not slide as well on choppy ice

Still really don't get why'd they'd take out the nylon knee strap in the Sr version.

Just seems like an unnecessary removal.

They need another small differential bullet points on the spec to charge us double for the Pro version.

Not G4, only have G3 recently myself but I'm actually thinking of taking that nylon straps out. Kinda not really doing much anyway. I have it loose so it will only be in effect if the knee elastic is really over-stretched. But the G3/G4 knee elastic is a lot better & stronger than G2, so that seems really unnecessary right now.

That was their reasoning behind taking it away. "It's not doing much"

Then why keep it in the pro version? Just seems like a ticky tacky reasoning.

Nice, combo.  Looks great!  Did you try them on the ice yet?  Man,... i just can't wait to get my G4 Pro myself!  Still got 6 weeks to wait out of the initial 8 weeks. I just fell in love with it after trying it on in store and comparing it to the optik and Bauer's ...and reading tons of stuff on gear.   Exactly what i was looking for.  The thin thigh rise should give great mobility.  The two elastics for toe tie and lundy loop should help connect the pad more to the skate but give the freedom for skate-pad rotation a lot better then my loose skate lace i use now...  The wrist mobility on the trapper is just insane to get it square to shooters and what can be said about the weight of this gear!!  Pads are half as light as my Eflex 2 860 Sr and blocker and glove drops about(i forget) 15-25% compared to my reebok XLT.

PS:  Its my first post here.  I've been reading the stuff for a while now and i just love it.  Thanks

Cheers

I took my nylon strap on my G3 to no ill effect. Made it easier to strap on / off for sure. The G3 is a different beast than G2 for sure... I struggled in the G2.

Sure looks good. But the pro models I'v put on my hand have been so stiff and lousy out of the box.
