And for about 2 seconds my mind went from focusing on the puck to thinking "Pink laces? Seriously?" I need to work more on my concentration. I always love forwards who have something easily identifiable. Whether that’s laces, or stick tape, or the wrong colored socks. Makes it super easy to quickly identify who the shooter is or in a scrum in front of the net.
Moose75
Really dumb lace question: I just bought 1X skates. My first non-cowling pair. How do I tie in my toe-tie laces?

Every skate I have ever seen has this above the eyelits and I am curious if there's a reason why Just a theory, but maybe it helps the skate wrap arround the fore foot better because of more leverage? Idk just a thought
TheGoalNet
Switched back to some fresh Elite Laces today and back to “Laces Over”. Howie’s Laces - Definitely high quality and built to last. The trade off for such a tough lace is that I kinda felt like a mite learning to tie my skates for the first time with them. Found them almost too stiff and nearly too difficult to pull tight and tie. I got a couple small blisters on the outside of my fingers... YEAH, chirp away... HOWEVER, I can safely say these held my skates beyond tight during all uses and never loosened up. Went back to Elite for a few reasons: 1. Want to test 2S exactly as I used my 1S to see if the occasional blister pops back up. My gut says no, but we’re about facts here... 2. Want to see if I can that same level of tightness and lock with the Elite. Elite’s are easier to tie and I’d prefer to use these if they perform as well. 3. Distant third... but I like the Elite styling better 4. Want to try Laces under with Elite and see what that feels like too here’s some images: 12 mo old Elites side by side with new Elites New Elites in 2S skate Laces Over Method Elite Laces Over Howie’s Laces Under 12mo Elite 4 Skate old Howie’s New Elite
TheGoalNet
Interesting... The elite laces definitely gave a bit during my skate last night. I could feel my foot slip a little compared to the Howie's. If you notice the pictures above, the laces thin out quite a bit over time. I am guessing that stretching was the reason for the slip. I am going to give them a few more skates and see what's up 2S is definitely a more generous skate than 1S. No blisters even with some movement last night. Punisher Goalie
I recently switched to a brand I found on Amazon called “Derby Laces”: Black 96 Inch Waxed Skate Lace - Derby Laces for Roller Derby, Hockey and Ice Skates, and Boots https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JIIKXUM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_2HehAb82FS2YM Primarily marketed toward roller derby skaters. I got my 96” black waxed set in and I’m very impressed with the quality. I like the width (wider than Elites) and the moderate amount of wax, but they hold really well. A cheap experiment if anyone is looking to try something new...

cwarnar
Anyone have a link or video to the Scrivens method for tying skates? I’ve searched online and can’t find it
RichMan
Quick question...is Scrivens' lacing method to help alleviate lace bite or for more forward flex?
cwarnar
Reduces lace bite and also helps you tighten the skates without discomfort. I was able to track down his periscope broadcast with his gear... totally worth the watch https://www.periscope.tv/w/1djGXwEXnyjKZ

RichMan
He kind of said that he's a pain in the ass for the trainers when it comes to his gear. Wonder who is worse, him or TT? loll He actually cut out some of his c/a. NOT something I expected, especially on the rib/kidney flaps, at the NHL level at least. cwarnar
Got my "Scrivens" Lacing done this morning. I took 2 screen shots from the periscope that Scrivens did as well Crappy quality but I did the following: Did not skip first eyelet Went inside out for the next 3 eyelets Went under/over/under (on the same side, DO NOT CROSS OVER) on the next 2 Went inside out on the final 3 eyelets Did not run laces thru the top eyelet I like the feeling from just wearing the skates in the house. Hoping to take them for a spin this weekend!

Tried the waxed yellow one recently since getting new pairs of skates. Did not like them. The laces seem to have more wax than actual lace in them. After many skates the laces were still stiff like a candle and had like no give whatsoever. If you tie them up a bit too tight, you are going to be in pain for the game. And the laces also started to roll up like a thin rope/string. Untying them is also a pain. End up ditching them for some Graf waxed laces. Much better.
