  1. Not to detract from this topic... but the final score isn't a reflection of how well a goalie played. I can say from personal experience that I've had shutouts where I've played awful... and let in 5 but played incredible. Speaking whatever comes into your mind (or in this case laughing in a coach's face) isn't a sign of strength, nor does it give you any credibility with your coach or teammates. By no means am I saying there aren't insane coaches out there who don't know what they're talking about... but I can't think of a situation that would be made better with the reaction you described.
  2. @ThatCarGuy Thank you for sharing everything. To echo what @Chenner29 and others have said... no time chasing your dream is wasted. I've always tried to have a Win or Learn mindset. To that you've probably learned more about yourself... what you're capable of doing... and what you're capable of dealing with than A LOT of people ever will. Of course, none of that changes your situation with junior teams in the immediate, but it will serve you well in life moving forward. Keep in mind too that having the opportunity to pivot into college is quite frankly an option that some of your juniors teammates may not have either from a grades or resources standpoint. Making hockey a part of your life and not all of it may reinvigorate your love of playing... or on the flip side... direct you to find something else that you can pour all of that passion into. Best of luck at A&M regardless of what happens on the ice.
  3. I mainly used heat to get the corners as smooth as possible, then just trim everything a good sharp x-acto once they've cooled. The goal being to minimize spots that can pull up. I'd suggest you maybe even wrap it around the knee landing so that any edge doesn't have a chance to come in contact with the ice.
  4. Late on the reply to this, but below is from when I originally applied the PPF... only change to now is that I have removed the PPF on the knee block extension. I used Xpel with their adhesion promoter after cleaning the surfaces with alcohol. Cut slightly larger than you need... apply it and work any air pockets out and work into the seams with a a vinyl squeegee tool. Apply heat at the corners and seams to adhere them tightly... stretching slightly over the corners in particular. Allow it to cool... and trim as needed.
  5. I laughed when I saw it on his story as well. Good for it still being out there. I think the set itself with 1 glove went to North Dakota... and the spare glove to Virginia. Was a great set... just couldn't get used to the break angle of that glove.
  6. Same as @TheGoalNet... had it on my Axis for 18+ months and no lift at all.
  7. Went to a True 580 (L20.2) as well after a relatively failed effort to make Axis 580 work. Doesn't fully feel like the 580s of decades gone by... but it is MUCH better than the CCM 580.
  8. Like @Puckstopper said it is 100% a feel thing. I strayed from the 580 with a set of custom 2X Pro and the glove felt so wrong I sold the whole set. I went back to CCM w/ Axis... and the 580 felt more normal to me... but just couldn't get it to ever feel "right." Fast forward 18 months or so and I picked up a new pro-stock True 580... single T... and it's glorious. Only worn it twice now... so it still needs some break in time... but it's the closest to what I think a "real 580" is. So FWIW @IpaddyTECH... if you want a full 580 experience and order a custom set... do yourself a favor and pick up a True... and IMO a single T.
  9. It's one of those things that once you have you can't see going back to not having IMO.
  10. It's funny you say that about Lefevre and their mitts. I just picked up a Mackenzie Blackwood L20.2 580 w/ single T because I've just sorta given up on my Axis glove. It has been nearly 2 years with a split T and D3O in the palm and while it closes fine... it just never felt "right." @Chenner29 and I were joking about analogies for the difference between CCM & Lefevre (True) and he mentioned Toyota & Lexus... to which I agreed... but not in the way he intended. IMO... CCM can have some bells & whistles with designer foam in D3O (Max Rebound & Control Rebound in leg pads) and change in strapping etc... which is all great... but not necessary IMO. So in that way I'd say that CCM is the Lexus in that they have added features that would be comparable to creature comforts and technology packages. While like you said @coopaloop1234 Lefevre mitts don't change much so to me they're the Toyota... well built... reliable... not the latest tech... but the damn things just work and work well... and they last. And I'd say that the same can be said extending into both companies' entire lines of gear. Lefevre gives you what works... it's thoughtful in its simplicity... and it's consistent. Don't get me wrong... I do like CCM and what they're doing to push materials and construction... but going back to the catch glove... even if I ordered a custom CCM single T Game Ready w/ no extra padding... the L20.2 would still win out. It may in part be nostalgic but it's just so nice to have the feeling of a puck snapping against a single T and snapping closed... a catcher that catches... simple.
  11. Not sure if that's a compliment to Bauer's Vapor 580... or if Lefevre's 580 has changed... I'll find out today... L20.2 is out for delivery. Of course I'm joking some... but the feel of Koho/CCM Lefevre gloves were just incredible. My Axis 580 while having the same break angle also has some updates to it that changed the feel for me. Compared to my short lived stint in a Bauer 2X Pro... break angle aside... Bauer gloves just felt SOOO much different. Not bad... just very different. So to hear that they're comparable is interesting to me.
  12. Late reply to this... but I just picked up a True 20.2 580 (Mackenzie Blackwood ProStock) so I'll be able to compare it to 580s of old and my current Axis. FWIW... I picked it up because the Axis closure still isn't there. I think there are a number of reasons why... increase in palm material... volume of lacing (especially at the base of the T)... location of the base of the T as well. I also just wanted a single T again... the feel of the puck in a double tee is just lost for me... something about that snap when a puck hits a single T just feels better IMO. That said... I don't even consider anything that isn't a 90 degree break. I've tried others... but always come back in a big way. It's just a comfort factor in not only the break in my had... but pocket location. It's just been too long for me in a 580 that not having one will always feel a little off no matter how many reps I get in with something else.
  13. Doing great. Over time it has shifted slightly but it's easy enough to re-position and/or just put a new piece on. But it's been almost a year and I'm just now considering doing that. I want to say I looked at doing the same thing before I even tried just slapping some foam underneath and the way the holes line up I don't think you really can. If I recall correctly there wasn't enough length remaining to have a new hole to be spaced properly and punched, or something. I could be completely wrong through. If you try it be sure to give it a post.
  14. It sure if this counts as a “steal”… but it’s a deal on steel. For anyone who needs another set of steels or haven’t tried Tydans… 20% off…
  15. In terms of actual sizing for the shape of my face yes. I had sized down to a Fit 1 in the VTX to make up for more generous proportions around the cheeks, and had it maxed out in terms of head circumference. My hat size is a 7 1/8 and in the Axis and 960 I'm in a comfortable Medium. I feel like my face was closer to the cage in a 960 than in Axis... but that hasn't been an issue at all. Great visibility and the differing chin shape hasn't been noticeable either.
  16. Had the same thing happen to both the initial VTX and the one the warranty replacement. Wearing the VTX was more of an experiment for me as my face shape is a better fit for the Profile line... but I did like it for the time it lasted. Picked up an AXIS and it's felt good. Heavier... but still a heck of a lot lighter than anything I had as a kid.
  17. I think this picture might highlight better what you're talking about... lack of snaps on the top of the shell and instead snapping to the backplate...
  18. Having a tougher time than usual with this customizer. Like @ZeroGravitas said I don't necessarily like how the color zones match up across the pads, glove, and blocker. This one uses all of the stock locations and I'm still not crazy about it... just the best of what I've done so far...
  19. @Teezle is the Axis2 set THAT good for you? How do these match up knee landing etc wise to the Mach set and Axis 2?
  20. They were designed to be a goalie skate... so they work very well in that capacity. I'm not sure how the buckles would do if you're skating out and take a shot to them... or if you're scrumming in the corner and a buckle gets flicked up. I can't think of any way that a skate would be bad for coaching regardless of the closure method... so that shouldn't be a concern. To be fair to Konekts as well... I don't think they need the benefit of the doubt. They're proven to be just fine. Like any piece of equipment a goalie wears... you should always carry some spare parts. I personally haven't had any issues with any of my buckles but I still picked up a parts set. If that's an issue for you or you feel you shouldn't have to do that... then these skates just aren't for you. https://www.sportrebel.com/Set-of-parts-for-Bauer-Konekt-goalkeeper-skates/8541
  21. What you're referring to aren't the sizes, but rather they're the models. Sizing is referenced by Fit 1, Fit 2, Fit 3 etc. The "a" identifies it as an Asian-made product vs. "c" which would be Canadian.
  22. Just measured mine again digital caliper and got 73.8mm... no idea where the extra 10mm is coming from. The outward facing camera on my phone is broken... but should have a new one by week's end. I can post a picture of mine with the measure.
  23. While I know you're asking about older Reebok cowlings and their pairing with a True boot... comparables for the Vertexx Edge and XSG are linked below. What you really get is less pitch forward from the XSG.
  24. Hey bud... I am on topic... stopping pucks. Pretty sure that nearly every topic on this site less the car your driving or what furball you have at home is related to the subject of stopping pucks on this forum. Nothing about my response indicated I took anything personally. I didn't at all in fact. I simply pointed out that if the gear works for him, in spite of how it looks to your eagle eye, it's non-discussion. I think what's in question is your idea of perfect and it maximizing every dimension allowable, and that's just simply not true. Perfect, like love, takes many forms. In this case, Marky wearing some EF6s that look suspect to you. As for being rich, I'm far from it. I will say however that $2400 in pads won't make you better but wearing 5-year-old equipment while getting $2400 in coaching on proper movement at least has a chance of doing that.
