  1. Thanks! My kid just bought a proto v so I guess we'll see. I'll mention that model to him. I suspect he will have to step down to slightly less of a "performance" stick.
  2. Hello all. I haven't posted here in sometime but thought this might interest some of you and hopefully have you some cash... My small attempt to repay some of the advice I've gotten over the years... Be warry of spending your money on the Bauer Mach Supreme line of sticks. While my son says the performance is excellent , they don't hold up at all. We purchased 3 sticks and Bauer comp'ed us a fourth due to our experience. All three original sticks have now broken. 2 broke (in the exact same spot) on the paddle right above the curve after maybe 5 hours of use. These sticks still still are okay to practice with. The third stick had its spine broken Saturday night after a whopping 5 games. I know sticks can break at any time, but in the same league last year, my son would expect to get 15 games out of his Warriror V2 pro+ sticks. My son has spoken to a few of his friends that use the stick and they are all seeing the same break. Right above where the blade starts. Its starts with a crack. You tape it up, the crack expands... Eventually its looks like something you could cut wheat with in a field... The sticks are still very solid in this state. Still performs the same... I sent all this info into Bauer and told them I thought they had a design issue or a production flaw. They disagreed... just be warry. My kid says its a great performer. If you team is paying don't worry stick with it I guess...
  3. Will it hold up better than the Mach Supreme? Those sticks are more brittle than 100 year old man. My son apparently used this one to fight off a shark attack...
  4. These are my kids skates. To answer you question though, I had the holders removed and replaced with vertexx holders to match what he had on the 190s. He's comfortable in the 3mm and its not a great time for him to be changing his gear.
  5. @aircanuck that sucks! Definitely sounds like something was off the rails. My kid had a short session last night with his coach. He decided to test out the new skates. As he came off the ice he told me he was never going back to his old 190s. Only issue we had was the new vertexx holders need some tweaks. One of the blades won't sit properly (i.e. all the way engaged). I cleaned it up quite a bit last night, but it was still not right so I'm taking it back tot he shop to let them figure it out.
  6. For people who bought 2 piece. How long did it take you to feel "comfortable" in your new skates? i.e. how many touches or hours before you got used to them?
  7. My kids skates came in last week. Took about 2.5 weeks. Very surprised at the turn around time. Store manager said True is really pumping them out fast right now (and its a slow time of year). Kid can't wear them for another 2 weeks though. He has evals in a couple of weeks. Probably not a great idea to switch skates this close...
  8. Just curious if anyone knows if just buying the boot is still an option. I was at my local PHL today the guy there didn't seem to think so, but they've been wrong before. I promised my kid that once his feet stop growing I'd get him 2 piece skates. He's been in the same 190s for two season now so its probably True time. I was thinking about him using his existing vertex holder (with this Tydan blades). That is of course assuming the sizing matches up. Any vertex users try the true holder and flip back? Maybe I'll just get the true holders and hold off on selling the old skates until he decides... How does the size of that step blade compare to the Tydan DLC?
  9. yeah. I'm sure it will scare some people a bit. I know I was worried about it, but after watching in game I'm really not that concerned. Mobility is king and his helps.
  10. How about game video? First game action in about a month. First period saves. Only played the first half of the game, I don't move my camera between periods. I'm crazy, but not that crazy. My kid, not me. btw...

Thanks, but I think he's married to that Optik now.

Just another followup on the Optik vs 1X sizing. I realized I never took a picture during the month he had the 1X, but I did have game video. He also just played his first game in the Optik Monday (which I have video of). So I did a screen grab of each. Its not the greatest quality, but you can really see the difference. See how square the 1X is. It also rides up quite a bit at the back of the helmet. One of the first things my kid commented on was how much easier he could move his head around. BTW, we did sinch it up quite a bit to try and beef up the shoulders a bit. Still way smaller than the 1X. He took a couple of rockets to the chest that night and didn't blink an eye... Personally I think these are both great units. Just depends on what you are looking for.
