Konekt - removing top of foot buckle

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I just got into a set of Konekts (thanks, sales!) and absolutely love them a few skates in. One small thing I'm noticing is that the top buckle (the one on top of your foot, not the ankle one) I keep super loose (first notch), and it pops off with no impact to play because of the boot bump on my Warriors.

When I got them, the guy at the store mentioned he just unscrewed the loop off and ignoring the buckle. Does anyone have any experiences/concerns/thoughts on this? It's easy to twist off, so I just want to make sure I'm not inadvertently causing some other problem. I tried it today off-ice and it felt fine.

Definitely going to keep the buckle on though, just in case I sell these down the line. He also mentioned some people completely remove it as well as the strap, but that seems like overkill in case I want to go back.

Floating this out there, but could the buckle be popping off because you're wearing it so loose?

Probably! It's the most comfortable for my foot though. I could try doing a notch up and seeing if that makes a difference.

If it's screwed to tightest setting and still popping off, I would move it down to the second notch and loosen accordingly.  I keep it on because it does provide some support/stability.

I kept it loosened all the way (to where it hits the loctite)

As an update on this, I had two back to back games last week and didn't have the top buckle on. Felt comfortable and basically the same from having the buckle on (all the way loosened/first notch), with the benefit of not having it pop off in between. I'll keep it this way for a bit and see how it goes!

It has been mentioned by a Bauer rep in a preview for the Konekt 2's (iirc) that there's a pro or two that use this same setup.

I've always rocked the loose in the middle, tight lace at the top two eyelet rows so I've found the same thing in my Konekt's .. I keep the middle loose. I haven't removed it yet though.
