indykrap
Hey all, Once again pondering a new set and thinking of some options to upgrade my current set (G5 Sr with a G4 Pro Glove). The G7 Pros are looking pretty good to me, but I was thinking of going with the RTL on the glove. Curious if anyone has has experience between the Pro and RTL and if protection would be a concern. I play men's league and shinny, but as always there are a few hard shooters there. Another thing I considered is if I did go with the RTL, going with a custom glove with the 7.1 and a sewn in 90 degree palm. I currently use the 90 degree on my G5 and I love it for catching and puck playing. Has anyone done a 6.1 or 7.1 with a 90 degree?
ThatCarGuy
I used an E+ glove in juniors towards the end of last year and had no issues. I'd just go pro for G7

indykrap
Thanks both - followup/perhaps a dumb question - will I notice much of a difference between a sewn in 90 degree palm vs putting my 90 degree insert in an existing one? Aside from consistency on the rare occasion I take it out to wash it.

I'd recommend trying on a 7.1 glove before buying.

With the current discounts out, you can get a full set of G6 Pro+ for about $110 CAD more than the G7 Pro (senior) Edited July 31 by coopaloop1234

Second is that I love the new Source for sports colorway, especially the tan/black!

He also straps his pads tight, I wear mine practically as loose as possible and without the professor strap. Which sucks because both of those features were things I was greatly looking forward too but they just don't work for me. G6 E+ will also be softer, but will keep a bit more rigidity as it doesn't have the exterior break. I just have my reservations of Warrior senior gear not turning floppy as they have in the past.

Fair point - my G5s have a bit of flop to them after a few years of use. Not nearly as bad as some I've seen, but I've seen what you mean. It's either this pro set/RTL glove combo or saving up for a bit longer and going for the "buy once, cry once" expensive Brian's or True custom I've been noodling on, haha. So the typical selection paralysis that plagues most of us? You should see the ADHD nature of @ThatCarGuy and his constant chase of the new shiny gear release. I can't keep up.

Problem is I basically have my gear so dialed in where I like it, but know it's maybe got another year of good use left.

Pre G6 gear barely had any real ability to change how they were, especially compared to the G7's super modular configuration. It took me a few months to settle on what I'd consider 90% there. G5 Options: - Knee strap (2 positions) - Calf Wrap (3 positions) - Toe ties and boot strap. G7 Options: - Knee strap (2 positions) - Professor strap (3 positions, multiple adjustment loops, different velcro position) - Calf Pillow (yes/no) - Calf Strap (3 positions, multiple adjustment loops, different velcro position) - Slide plate (yes/no) - Toe ties and boot strap. These options are great to truly get a feel you want, but unless you luck into a setting early that works nicely for you, it can take a while to get used to it.

Is it bad this makes me want to buy new pads less? like.. man, I'm content to not go through an adjustment period for now haha. I know this brings great shame on me. I know this brings great shame on me. It's more of a PSA that the G7 pads are incredibly modular compared to most pads out there. You can really fine tune what you want, but too many options does leave you to tinker with them game in and game out. My adjustment period for strapping on my GT2's and G5's was two games and my Bauer's was about two weeks.

I tend to tinker a lot (especially after an off game) so that's good to know as something to mentally prepare for, especially with all the strapping changes to the G7. Especially with the difficulty increase that Elden Ring had compared to other games. Loved my time with it, just highly doubt I'll complete it or start a new run. I like my Souls game with a bit less open concept. Edited July 31 by coopaloop1234
