I have no idea on manufacturer margins, but EPP costs may shed some light: EPP pricing when I was working retail (and gear was being made domestically), a full set would set me back around $1300-1400. Retail at that time was around $2600. It was stated we were getting anywhere from 30-40% off retail cost - so the manufacturer was still making money. 18 years later, EPP pricing *on non-domestic made gear* lands around $1000-1200, let's call the retail mean $3700. Inflation has gone up ~55% in that span and EPP cost of gear went down about 15%. Our Bauer eep cost went up $500 this year. CCM on the other hand went down $

I've owned lots of gear made in Canada over the years, including my px3 set, but my over seas l20.2 gloves, and my eflex 6 pads are/were absolutely fine in terms of quality. And as @coopaloop1234 points out you are actually paying a bit less. Did you end up getting a set of shadows? How are you liking them? I pulled the trigger on a lightly used set of Bauer X5 pads yesterday for only $300. Never been in a bauer pad yet but just wanted to scratch that itch and see if I might go pro custom later. Figured I should get to know the brand a little bit before dropping 2K. I did already have an X5 blocker so that will match and I have greatly enjoyed the performance and light weight factor that bauer is known for. They are intermediate large, one reason they were so cheap but still less than half price retail. For my ridiculously small legs with 18.5 FTK it measures to fit perfectly. I'm coming from a second generation warrior G2's I only found out a couple weeks back had the infamous 10 1/2 inch problem, so I'm not losing any width that I'm not already used to at this point. I took a break from hockey for a few years and got married and all that jazz, so this will be the first new to me leg pads in about 10 years. looking forward to getting updated into the current decade haha Edited September 16 by IpaddyTECH

It took a few skates/games to get used to them, and I'm still not completely comfortable but I'm getting pretty close. Really it's like any new pad, insofar as you just need to get used to the new strapping set up and find out what works best in terms of comfort and feel, either replicating what you're used to or adapting to how the strapping is meant to best serve the design of the pads that you're in. Meaning for me, coming from a set of px3s, I've managed to fairly closely reproduce the loose fit that I prefer within the design of the Shadows which seem to be intended to fit a bit more snuggly. At least that's how they feel for me, anyway. But overall the adjustment has been pretty easy and I'm at the point where I'm not thinking about them and just playing, which is always the goal.
