Bauer Pro Elastic Toe System

Recommended Posts

I just got a pair of these, and I'm having trouble seeing how to feed the gray rectangular plastic tab through the small round hole on a 3X pad. Is there a trick to this? I'm just afraid of doing permanent damage. They seem to use a similar tab system for the knee flaps, but those seem much easier to feed through.

I haven't installed these but i have uninstalled them and yes, the insert piece is not easy to get through the toe bridge.

I had my new Shadow set for all of about 10 minutes and I cut mine off and it took me a while to get that tab through.   In fact I think Bauer may make the hole it goes through slightly larger, although it's possible I did so myself getting it out.

It any case I installed my TGN Spec Pro Laces without an issue right after.

You might just take a a screwdriver or Allen keys and just find one is slightly larger than those toe bridge holes and just gently rotate it through to make that circumference a bit larger until you can get that tab through.

What I did with mine is pushed needle nose pliers through the front of the bridge on the pad. Then opened the pliers the best I could and put that grey piece into the pliers and closed them, and then just pull the pliers and the grey part through.

Definitely try to turn the grey part so that when you pull it through the hole it's oriented skinny side first obviously.

I do agree the design is horrific lol. What I did to modify mine a bit before I got custom prolaces was just cut that grey piece off completely and used lace to go through the white nylon and into the pad. So I could essentially change that slack there so it was adjustable so to speak.

Yeah, if Bauer had a dude you could just call and discuss a custom order like Vaughn or Brian's does I would have just ordered mine with no toe ties whatsoever.  Oh well.  Or maybe they offered a skate lace option I missed??  Double oh well.

Also want to say I bought forceps for this exact type of equipment fiddling. So many times when modding gear or just messing with strapping can something like these come in handy. Before buying these it was a lot of sore fingers and screwdriver forcing lace through stuff. Can get them cheap on Amazon.

Nice pair of Circle Circumference Enhancers.  Very smart.

I was thinking of doing this if the pliers don't work.

Thanks everyone 😃

You could always untie one of the knots  and take them apart that’s how I got them out of my shadows 9D0A6C96-AE13-4CE4-83CE-113DB550A139.thumb.jpeg.3b9fc1160c6ce117407e28cd8d9dcac9.jpeg

OH

I was wondering how it was inside, but was afraid to take it apart, but it looks like I can do this to put it in easily

@Hockey34 success!

Thank you again, I used your method. But one question remains, with the traditional setup, on the Hyperlites, there was no bias to either side, but since this one only goes through one, should I use the one closer to the inside or outside? Or is the offset kinda small to make much of a difference? I guess the actual offset is half of the distance between, since I’m going from two to one.

Funny thing is that I was doing something similar previously anyway with Prolaces.

With those options being so close together it's unlikely to make much of a difference. I always use the inner most hole though as it reduces the pull of that elastic on my ankle and knees. When you put it more towards the center instead of the inside of the pad it will help pull your pad back to center easier.

There are some other differences in that regard for future though that can affect some of the overlap when standing etc. Matt from Hockey Reviews goes over this pretty well here in this timestamped video.

That would have made my scissor cut like 3 seconds faster.  Time lost in my life, sigh.  I enjoyed at least seeing the new fancy thing before I cut it off, haha.

I found it easy enough to just feed through the hole, with the help of some needle nose pliers.

Though cutting them off in a rink bar seemed more fun

it went down like this:  I walk in, very familiar bartender goes "woah did you get new gear?" and I go "Yes! Can I borrow some scissors?" and she goes "oh.  ummmmmmm, ok."
