Hey yall, first time making a topic here, don’t know if this is allowed or not but guess mods will decide.

Anyways you guys probably saw me hijack another thread, and I mostly had my questions answered there, but I want a place to consolidate it better as well as get more opinion for more specific questions, which will be below.

I’m in the market for new pads, I’m very picky and want to have a matching set, I’m going after a modern “soft” pad where I can get more curve out of it than my current HYP2 Ultrasonic build. I want to move away from Bauer and stay away from CCM. Bauer for longevity and CCM for their terrible gloves and also longevity.

I am a full right 580 guy, of the 580 on the market for me it goes Bauer, True, Brian’s, CCM and I haven’t tried Vaughn but I’ve heard it’s good, I do like Vaughn’s 590 and 600 in terms of comfort. 590 felt great but wanted more of the 580 closure which I know I can get out of the 70 degree.

ok so that out of the way, I also have a dialogue open with a goalie specialist but he’s on holiday right now. the questions below will be in regards to your personal experience with the equipment should you have any.

First are my questions in regard to Vaughn specifically the V10 leg pads.

My main concern and really the only question now is if any of you have had V10 pro carbons how are they holding up? I have heard concerns about them softening up quite a bit, has anyone had issues with a trapdoor down in the butterfly, or the knee stack being too loose and causing over rotation?  And are you able to get a mild-decent curve out of them?

My question about a 12.2/20.2 spec true pad is also the same. Any issues with trapdoor or knee stack floppiness. As well as the ability to curve the pads a bit more than stock.

I shall await your answers and thank you so much for welcoming me here, it’s been awesome picking everyone’s brains and hearing what they like dislike and dream of in this world that is new to me

Edit: This can also apply to the thin stiff options for true, I have just heard more success with adding curve with the older style

I have v10s that I bought used. Previous owner used them a few months and I’ve used them about 9 months. Pads have minimal wear showing. They have softened up a little since I got them, but not much. The pads have a nice curve to them with the stock single break. I have a narrow butterfly and keep my knees close together, have not had any trapdoor issues.

Happy to answer any additional questions about them.

You can order the true pads with a thick thigh which will give you more curve. You can order the catalyst with thich no outter break or with double outter break if you want more flex. You can also order the hzrdus with a double Internal break/no outter break.

I was gonna do a 12.2 spec thigh (thick thigh mid stiff) if I decide to go true, but rn I’m leaning Vaughn

I'm sure you will be happy with either brand. But I will say that true is still the best 580, the 70xp just felt weird to me.

I'm currently in a PX3 skinned 12.2 Wedgewood pad with the thick thigh. I can send a pic in a bit if you want of the curve. However I have no idea if he got any custom options for the shape of the pad but I feel like the shape is pretty nice in them. I do store them upside down for what it's worth since a good S shape is something I really enjoy in a pad, I can only imagine gravity helps. They are like 10x softer than the stock PX3 pad I had middle of last year which had the thin thigh option.

Have you tried the latest CCM glove? Terrible gloves were mostly under Lefebvre brand and now you think True glove. Off course custom gloves are always better than off the shelf gloves.

I’ve found the opposite… the CCM gloves got significantly worse after the leferve split.

Seems to be the common consensus among my circle

I’m a 580 guy, and the True/Leferve 580 is still overall my favorite glove. I’ve flirted with the Brians eclipse and Vaughn XP70 which have their merits but overall the True glove just does everything well. Was not a fan of the Bauer Vapor 90. The CCM eflex 5 580 Skinner pro return I used was fine, nothing really stood out about it. But the CCM 581 is flat awful.

I would say it depends... 581 etc was not a big succes but I would say latest F5 & F9 jr/int/sr gloves are way better than models few years ago. Plus I think they make custom 580/590/600 gloves which are very similiar than five years ago. And sometimes you might have a good design but poor manufacturing.

Have to agree there. I tried F9 Senior set (Glove was 590) over the summer and was really surprised with how it felt and played after having gone a few years away from the CCM line and like a decade since trying any senior gear at all.

I haven’t used senior level gear in a couple decades so I can’t really comment on those.

I used a custom 580 eflex 5 that was a skinner pro return. It was fine, felt like a leferve 580 but just didn’t feel as nice.

I'm curious to hear about anyone's experience with the Eflex 7 glove when that comes out. I could be wrong but isn't it the first stock glove to have both a 580 style break and a non wrist strap design (the crossfrom strap)? The warrior version of the cross from strap is maybe my favorite feature of the my glove but it's a 75 degree... so the Eflex 7 might be a unique combo. I was under the impression that even in custom Axis xf 580 and Vapor 90 gloves they came only with traditional strapping, but again correct me if I'm wrong.

Got a pretty aggressive curve on my 12.2s. Helps a lot! But they are definitely quite stiff up top and not getting the trap door thing I got in my double break Warriors.

Nice, I doubt I need to get mine that curved but I wouldn’t be against it haha. How’s you get it this way any specific method? Also how’s the knee stack is it floppy or still relatively stiff? I know they are more traditional knee stacks and coming from the stabilislide Trues and Vaughn’s knee stacks will be significantly more floppy. But are these too floppy?

The Vaughn knee stack will be pretty stiff considering it's also integrated into the face of the pad (like Bauer).

The True knee stack has more play in it since it's laced in. I don't think I'd call it floppy personally, but mine are less than 6 months old. The 12.2s one of the kids I coach uses has a lot more play in its knee stacks than my PX3s.
