Chenner29 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Things I could buy instead of spending $1200 on a chest protector using 10+ year old tech: 1) 120 bottles of burn cream for myself, since I clearly cannot make relevant analogies 2) CCM AB21 C/A, Vaughn SLR4 Pro Carbon pants 3) 3 Bauer Protocol sticks, Bauer Pro knee pads Price does not equal value. 2 Quote

If it was $1200 new, why are you selling it for more than that now just because they don't make them anymore? It's also used. Turns out he paid $1,250 CAD for it and is now selling it for $1,150 USD. So roughly $1,650 CAD. $400 CAD more for a used unit lol. https://sidelineswap.com/gear/hockey/goalie/goalie-chest-arm-protectors/8564974-brown-russian-spec-chest-protector 1 Quote

kat30 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 When I saw this for over $600, I thought it would be an original from the era and laughed a little when I saw 2023 written in sharpie. It would look super cool on the wall, however, I would definitely not pay this price for a replica. If I'm naive about the cost of masks please educate me, but looking online you can get a custom vintage fiberglass mask made and painted for $400 or less. 1 Quote

They're in relative good condition and looking through other ads, are priced below what some others are. 1 Quote

I think buyers need to realize we live in an age where we can send bottled farts or confetti dicks by mail anonymously I had a similar thing happen when selling my project car before moving. A friend’s friend said he was interested and so we had agreed on the phone 3000 firm if he wants it, he kicked the tires for a good 10min insulting the state of the car only to tell me that he brought 2500, and then said “Oh everyone knows you don’t bring the whole amount” so I told him to pound sand and then he said “oh yeah consult with your wife and then call me back when she makes you sell the car”. I told my buddy what happened and he apologized profusely. Later that week my wife’s friend shows after word gets around, hands me the full cash to hold on to, does due diligence and tells me that he wants it and he will arrange all of the rest of the paperwork and title stuff. First guy calls during the process and as I’m saying that it’s in process of being moved, he pleads with me that he will offer much more. Anyway apparently word got around and him and his wife got into a fight and got separated because from what I heard he never told her that he was going to go buy another car or something. 2 Quote
OldSchoolGoalie Posted January 11 Posted January 11 (edited) @Smalls I mean, what can you not hope to like with that Bauer Pro Stock 930! Comes with all expenses paid by you "the buy" straight to the ER! I never really was a fan of Brown Chest Protectors... however I did hear this unit was indeed a tank back in the day. Considering the other options that are on the market, one's money is better spent else where. Funny enough, I know the seller of this personally. Edited January 11 by OldSchoolGoalie Quote

I hate people most days. The few times I've sold equipment its always been with a shit ton of hesitation and a whole lot of regret. I do better off giving stuff away to people I know could use it. Based on his first comment in bold, the second was not surprising to me - very clear who was leading that relationship. My wife doesn't really ask how much I spend on my hobbies (which is great!...but tougher on me as I need to manage myself tighter lol) - but she does give me grief when she sees something new and it looks expensive. I have brought up starting a goalie gear store where I charge $5 extra for a "spouse receipt" that shows how much you plan on telling them you paid...any investors? 5 minutes ago, chile57 said: $501 - I'm surprised you didn't jump at that generous $1 bump @Chenner29. Right? I debated going through his SLS locker and doing the same thing back because I'm petty like that 1 Quote

Almost as bad as people selling used gear for like $10/15 cheaper than brand new. I was watching a x5 stick and it was used and guy wanted $200 with a brand new one being $215. 1 Quote

We have a sport shop here which sells "used" goalie gear and the person running the joint must be from another planet. You'll find some dinky old pads from 20 years ago and the guy is selling them for $600! Straps barely there, and the knee cradles are just chewed up. Then you'll come across some old CCM glove that is as stiff as a board released a decade ago for $300 when you can just buy a new glove online for that or less depending on sales. I wont even get into the pricing he does for the youth, jr gear... Quote

Yeah there have been a few items I was interested in priced like this, but most of the people I message about it are down to earth and just didn't realize and I will buy from them gladly. Then there are the guys that when I tell them the pricing is off based on new/used pricing they tell me "go buy it new then" and so I do, and a day later I see they lowered the price to the right range. It's like immediately they were offended and couldn't let their ego get bruised but then realized I was right and lower it lol. Those are the people I hate. To be clear I don't go around telling people what pricing should be, I only do it on items I'm actually interested in buying and I'm giving them the chance to make a sale for the proper fair price. Hell, I've tried to be helpful and correct some sellers spec descriptions in order to properly help advertise their gear. Half never respond, very few thank me and change it, and a few just tell me to get fucked and that I don't know what I'm talking about. Quote
