Why even respond?

I like the winter classic, but maybe it would be best once every 2nd or 4th year, or at the least the classic alone every year and drop the other ones. Some teams can't participate on account that their location wouldn't allow for good ice surface. Too much of a good thing can be just as bad. Bettman clearly only sees with these $$$$$ all the time.

Why not have an indoor Winter Classic? That's right. I know it kind of defies the title and concept but, it could be played inside which makes the crowd feel closer (and warmer), have both teams wear classic (brown) retro gear (goalies and forwards) and jerseys/socks of course. No modern DJ music, just the good old organ player. Ushers and vendors and the likes could dress in that time period and fans could also join in costume wise. Food and drinks served in fashion of those days. THAT would make for a cool experience!!

That'd be a fun watch, especially with teams that weren't around during those eras.

I think the all star game should become the winter classic. They should try and play in some really bizarre places... like the vegas casino roof they used in the early 90s for a Kings exhibition or on a beach. Would be a total joke, but that’s what the ASG is anyway...

Hah I can see that. Though I don’t completely hate the 3-on-3 format.

While I agree the outdoor games have lost their luster. I don't have a problem with them doing a few every year. But the Road to the Winter Classic is now awful.

It gives local fans interesting games to attend and brings us some awesome jerseys. Some bad ones too but I'll accept those just so we get the nicer designs like this year's Sabres.

No need for people to get mad about this or bicker. But when you make a silly claim that a team is 'irrelevant' when they're the NHL's most valuable team, and they're being featured in the NHL's biggest cash-grab, and they were selected last year when their record in December 2017 was an unknown... you can't be too surprised when people challenge you to explain your reasoning.

Bottom line, they've been the league's most valuable team for three years, and they represent an extremely valuable market. 'Irrelevant' is not the word you were looking for.

I don’t mind people being passionate about this opinions, in fact... love it

I think feeling this game is silly is valid or thinking NYR as Citi field is great works too... but let’s just make sure we don’t cross into attacking anyone.

If we turn into the crusty old crimudgeons of the crease, we’ll die a quick death with this site

Well said.

The Maple Leafs had awful teams for years and still managed to sell out every game. being at the bottom of the standings does not dictate if you are a relevant team or not.

Once a year I was good with. The Stadium Series stuff made the whole thing ridiculous.

I agree

And having the same teams virtually every year ruined it quickly. But hey, maybe the Blackhawks can get their outdoor record back to .500!

This too.  Every year is either Chicago or Pittsburgh.  Enough already.

The problem I have with the outdoor games is that the play surface is so disconnected from the fans. The closest seat is still seemingly miles away from the action. When the Blues had their outdoor game, I watched it in the comfort of my home as I did not want to pay $500 to use binoculars.

Going along these lines, I am also against baseball stadiums.  The sightlines are just awful.  Keep it to football stadiums, they're just like an enlarged arena bowl.  Baseball stadiums have all these nooks and crannies that just make seating angles bad for  hockey game.

The Winter Classic is made for TV. I’ll watch on tele, but never live, in person. But I see your point.

Same here man.

City Field? Why not Yankee? Islanders at City makes sense. Isles v Rangers at City even more.

Hopefully the goalies and uniforms are all retro themed - because that is still innovative. Maybe players will wear eye black too? A toque hat on a goalie? Oh, the suspense!

Rangers v. Knights at Caesar's Palace. That would have been neat.

Because Yankee Stadium has the Pinstripe Bowl, which was played either yesterday or the day prior I believe.  There's no time to turn the baseball stadium into a football stadium and then into an ice rink.  When the Stadium Series was played at Yankee Stadium a few years ago, it was done in Late January or February for this reason.

This is something that I thought about as well except a little differently.  Make the ASG the Winter Classic.  Only problem with that is you're going to end up cutting off a lot of cities from hosting it.

All I'll say is that I'm good with one outdoor game a year. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

Road to the Winter Classic was my favorite part about the game.  Ever since it was dropped from HBO it has gone down the shitter.

Freddy with 1S sliding wings on a 2S pad. The pad core changed between 1S and 2S, so this is more than just the graphic 381B99E9-9112-4AB6-8605-B151FD8AF665.thumb.jpeg.4492eb36429ffdd7aa225df4abadcef2.jpeg

Big Ben in Tacks

He previously used Bauer 7000 and then 1S

Also, I love this current paint scheme. Seeing the carbon poke through is unique, but not too busy

Those are literally 2 of DaveArt’s best masks ever. The Hank one is just straight heat... I love how it’s clean lines and the chrome gives it a modern flair.

Maybe he reads the comments and realizes people generally think his work is too busy??? Haha - Instagram is actually amazing market research if people use it correctly

Hank & Pavelec sets.

Hank is using his old pads with a printed Pad Skinz decal to add the winter classic logo and Brooklyn bridge. He couldn’t break in the special pads printed for the event in time

Still trying to get confirmation on the logo on Pavelec’s Set, but I’d imagine it’s the same

I wonder if some of the more particular pros give him feedback? He's made a couple this year that are fantastic.

This one is my favorite, but it's for SHL, not NHL. This is like a modern take on the animal head paint jobs prevalent in the 80's and 90's.

EDIT: it's using that team's logo.
