If you are serious about your gear and don’t mind the initial investment, buy an ozone machine on Amazon. ($80ish dollars)  Washing temporarily removes part or masks the odor from the bacteria in the fibers. Ozone penetrates every crevice and destroys the odor causing bacteria.

Get a large enough box or container to fit whatever equipment you need done. Cut out an opening for the ozone fan to fit and set for 20-30 minutes. (Can also work in a small room but remember, ventilate after use) The small room method will take longer since it’s not as confined. This will forever eradicate any smell. PERIOD.
