Received a full gear bag from a buddy of mine who’s dad passed. His dad was a longtime goalie and gear head apparently given how meticulous his stuff is. I can’t sell it or give it away but can’t use most of it since his pops was 6’4” and a monster of a human.

will try to get some pics up soon at least as they’re pretty sweet retros.

Nice, sounds like some good stuff. And hope the family is doing okay all things considered.

Pair of CCM ProLite pads on the bay. Were these a CCM rebrand? Or were CCM making their own Aeroflex/ GM-PRO/ Smith pads in house?

"ARC" seems like it would be active rebound control or something along that line. I recall that in the day, foam pads were thought to be detrimental for goalies with rebounds. Deer hair was preferred...

Yes, ARC referred to the pads having a velcro flap at the top that opens to allow any of three different foam sheets to slide in to produce different rebounds. According to the patent the arrangement of the squares affected the rebounds.

Trepid, I received your message, tried searching this website for the image of me in my beefed up Cooper SA95 arm pads circa 1985, to no avail.

I think that it was a photo which I downloaded to my old computer and am having trouble locating.

Does anyone else recall this photo that I posted a couple years ago?

It’s so strange that we went from trying to quiet and kill rebounds to making crazy rebounds. Looking at the older pix, it really seemed that for quite awhile, for example, there were more wearers of Heaton Pro 90z (deer hair) over the foam-stuffed equivalent. Brock tubes weren’t much lighter.  I have been pondering using a memory foam with heavy damping properties in the face of a pad to simulate the dead pad feel of deer hair. There is nothing like it. I can control rebounds pretty well in deer hair.  They just weigh a tonne in comparison. I would REALLY need to do my leg exercises to get in good enough shape to wear my Cooper GP59 Durasoft pads on a regular basis. Those are light compared to the pair of GP59 with leather face! Those things are beasts dry, and lead weights by the time an hour rolls around. Goalies lifting those up in the air for an acrobatic save were super TRUE men! They aren’t so bad when you’re wearing them, but truly a bear when you take them off.  You don’t want those to rotate, trust me!!!!

I suppose it took nearly a full generation to get goalies out of the deer hair habit.

I would’ve remembered that!

Thank you very much @Wonder35 That top photo must be the one I remember. Also interesting work on the BP21. When they filled the B21's side gap between the shoulder portion and the belly portion, did you notice it impede your arms from moving in front of your body? That mod is sort of like the flaps on modern chesties, particularly if you wear the BP21 over the SA95. Is that how you wore it?

Interesting they went exoskeleton on the SA95. I'm considering adding /5" foam padding inside everywhere except the elbows and going exoskeleton over those. I figure teaming that up with a BP21 that looks like yours and a wildly expanded and padded clavicle protector may do the job.

Tough questions for a mature goaltender but I believe the shoulder Mickey Mouse ears on my BP21 rested under my SA95, arms pads went on after the belly pad . Back then we always seem to wear smallish goalie jerseys because that's all we had so the tight chest area kept the ears from floating as well.

With the extra bulk of my SA95 I found that shots between the shoulder and chest area sometimes squeezed through. The arms were too rigid and difficult to flex. Back then goaltenders were not encouraged to play the puck, a move which was made difficult with these encasements. I don't recall the add-on shouldered and belly extensions causing an issue, more the sheer bulk and stiffness of the arms. Within a season or two this set-up was gone and I went to a radical new concept - a one piece C/A.
