Yea that's real vintage Vaughn.  This is what I meant by retro
Image result for vaughn goalie blocker

Any of the above is better than ripping off a very specific hole pattern. Cooper abandoned that hole pattern in the mid ‘90s.

First new Daveart splatter-mess of the upcoming season...

I've followed Merzlikins for a few years now, and he's had some nice stylish buckets for Lugano which makes this even worse somehow...just a total compositional dogs dinner.

i dig the pads, i dig the blocker. the glove is terrible though. I hate that the graphic doesnt match.

Matching a graphic on a catcher is always a challenge. It's the only piece that is not rectangle. Pads and blocker has some kind of a similar proportion and it's rectangle, so only 2 vertical and 2 horizontal lines. A catcher has 2 vertical, 1 horizontal and 3 distinctive rounded lines. And I haven't talked about the break line that need to be cleared and the pocket that adds another set of curved and straight lines. The difference in canvas' frame makes everything looks off right from the start and there's a lot of technical limits to apply a graphic to a catcher.

Ducks prospect Garrett Metcalf’s new Vaughn setup. Absolutely love the vintage logo on there

Is it the picture or the pads front straps and blocker's holes are printed? There seems to be a gradient in the blocker holes, something I would do with Illustrator. And the loose straps looks symmetrical, something too perfect to be real.

Seems to be the norm for goalies to have decent style then go to mr. trademark super-fx. Wtf is this

I'm dreading to see how he screws up Quick's mask.

Metal armor....with sparkles and glitter and ghosted unicorns and ghosted LAK everywhere.

Probably just the picture. I've seen Vaughn gear do the faux straps and blocker holes before and I have a feeling that Vaughn will be the very last company to incorporate printed technology. :P

Omg god if he puts a single fucking dab of glitter on JQ’s Mask I will go to Dave’s painting studio and mix all of his paint colors together and paint his house with it!!!

The Merzlikins mask is busy for sure... but the man has style... whether you like it or not is another thing. I'm anxious to see how well he transitions to the NHL game. He certainly has the tools to be a star.

His masks already have plenty of glitter in them.

I never said he wasn’t good or he didn’t have potential, I just said I think his mask sucks lol. It’s super busy when it really doesn’t need to be.

I think the client also has a say in the mask design. Where the given tendy shouts ideas of what they want on the mask and Dave incorporates it into the design. So I would picture the client would be given a moc design that they both agree apon before any paint hits the mask.

And I think Lehner's mask doesn't include the holographic glitter stuff. His mask to me is more like a tattoo where the imagery and line work says a lot (also due to lack of colour). And it doesn't help that I like the sketch type mask he does mainly that's the type of art style I like to draw in as well. As my drafting prof likes to circle in green pen too, line weight matters w/ correct line size lol.

true, but if you look at what brians and warrior have done their glove matches up pretty well with the blocker and pads like how they do it w the optik and the g3

I saw this abortion on a local website last night.  What a total mess!  The only good news is that no matter how poorly Elvis plays he'll still look better than his mask.

I love Dave's sketch work (not to say that he's the only one employing it)... and I 100% agree with your tattoo comment. It's probably the path I'd go down if I were to get another mask painted. The sketch allows for some great imagery while keeping the mask neutral in terms of color. I actually thought of asking a local tattoo artist who does some incredible portrait work etc. to sketch the mask (with the right pens of course) and then getting is clear coated.

Welcome Joseph Woll to the DaveArt Family! 🙏🏻😊

The new season is coming closer day by day and it is with a huge honor we unleash Joseph Woll´s first NHL mask. 👊🏻

The design is a true Storyteller in every detail🔎📘. The freehand airbrush painted eagles are a tribute to Joseph´s previous team🦅, Boston College Eagles, in his way to become a pro. The brick wall in the background is connected to Joseph´s last name. 💪🏻

On a distance it is a clean cut design with with strong contrasts which live and breath Toronto Maple Leafs🍁, and when you come closer the detail work kicks in and it becomes a true Storyteller creation.

Joseph, it is a true honor to be your mask artist and evolve your visions into a real pro mask🙏🏻. I am so happy and proud to be your artist. Thanks Joseph!😊🎨
