Big2
A goalie should always have a spare cage - dangler - laces - runners plus spare parts to fix a helmet, I have a small tool box that I take with me to all of my son's games
keeperton
I've never used anything other than a certified grid cage. I also only used a dangler until I was 9, can't stand the noise and hate trying to turn my head with it on. Had one of these as a kid: Use one of these now:
TheGoalNet
wow... only took a year for the widow maker to make an appearance!
Fullright
Uninformed alert: what is the make and model of the widow maker? See it a lot but it seems to be assigned to any mask/helmet deemed unsafe.
keeperton
Itech 1400 is what it looks like. Thing almost always hurt to take faceshots to, I got rather good at not getting hit in the head with the thing on. It's kind of amazing to not totally fear getting hit in the face now. craig
It is actually an Itech 1000: An Itech 1400 looks like this: Both are terrible. Pretty sure the 1000s were recalled years ago due to cage issues. Yet it seems every beer league goalie i see who is over 40 has one. I think the 1400 was the replacement for the 1000. They are also super common at all of the PIAS locations in the Ottawa area. So ya... older widowmaker and newer widowmaker
TheGoalNet
I had the "pro" version of the 1400. Was that the 8000?
keeperton
I mean they both suck. I had the 1000 personally, even if I was 10-13 wearing it, it wasn't adequate enough.

southpawtendy48
Still sticking with my CCM certified cat eye. I like my eyes and I don’t want to lose them. It’s not a lack of sight issue, it’s always been a lack of focus for me.
KootenayKeeper
I need to replace the cage on my Mage RS. It's the RS90 cage with the extended chin. But I was thinking about getting the flatbar cat eye instead. The cage doesn't extend to cover the chin as mine does. But I will need to drill new holes to mount it. So questions, 1. Has anyone drilled new holes in their mask to fit a new cage?Any issues? My mask is a few years old so already out of warranty. I probably have to remove the foam to do it. 2. Does anyone have experience with the Mage flatbar cat eye? How are the sightlines, durability? Thanks.

Thanks. @KootenayKeeper FYI, I have a medium Mage RS and was able to easily mount (no drilling - fit perfectly) CCM cages to that mask. Both a retail pro/titanium certified cage and a pro stock Ti cat eye. If you can find a CCM cat eye you like it might be better to try that first. Disclaimer though - there seems to be a few different iterations of the Mage RS and if yours isn’t a medium IDK if it would fit.
