lil_mcnugget
No cat eye is way better. I like the stock profile cage the most.
MTH
I've always worn one. Wire breakage isn't really a cat eye cage issue. Also, all those breaks were from NHL situations that I'm sure you're not in. Add in that there are guys who want the lighter cages that can make them more likely to break (also different alloys). All my cages bend and break over time. You have to change them when they bend (metal fatigue) or they can snap. The stick in the eye is a real concern though. So you have to weigh that vs. a certified cage. I've never had to wear a certified cage. All the goalies when I was a kid wore cat eyes in the NHL. So that's what the legit kids wore too playing. So that's why I've only worn them all these years later. I do like the Sportmask cat eye cage. I went through a few dozen Cooper/Bauer cages. But the last two Sportmask cages have taken a lot of abuse.
mr_shifty1982
And guess what, all those goalies continued wearing a cat eye, cat eye all day!

RichMan
I've worn the cat-eye since I moved to a mask from combos some 20 years ago. Been sporting a certified cat-eye for the past 10 years. I'm weighing (considering) getting a certified straight caged mask (Sportmask X8) for safety reasons. Playing beer league at mid-lower level brings out guys with little stick control and last thing I need is to have an eye poked out. Might need a while getting used to it but if was able to play with a Hasek setup, this shouldn't be a problem.
bunnyman666
I am actually considering an Olympia Composites custom cat eye cage with a flat or triangulated main bar IF I like the vision of the pro cat eye for my Victory mask. A wider bar would help mitigate the stick in the eye danger. But at $185 USD for a custom cage, that is steep. I will also admit this: cheaters are a different look. Everyone and their dog wears a cat eye, it seems.

Before that was certified straight bar. Just got a dent in my current cage so needed to place an order for a replacement. Decided to go with the "open mouth" cat eye. Seems likes a blend of the traditional cat eye and a cheater cage. Definitely excited to try it out. 1 hour ago, RichMan said: I've worn the cat-eye since I moved to a mask from combos some 20 years ago. Been sporting a certified cat-eye for the past 10 years. While you'll have to deal with a slight more amount of visual impairment due to the horizontal bars somewhat impacting your straight on view, the sheer amount of peripheral you'll gain over a certified cat eye is massive. I would rather wear a straight bar cage than one of those monstrosities.

It was a hand me down mask so that was the cage I was stuck with. Already did the puck and stick test on the new cage. Nothing is getting in.
