Ok. So are you more of a 600 break,  index finger tip to Thumb tip guy?

I read your thread on your True Design Vapors. So that set is gone? Damn

He's a 580 weirdo

While I have seen today's GGN video of his UltraSonic glove closure (stock as a 600ish 75 degree break but looks to be overlapping more like a 580 90 degree) I'd rather just use what I know will be perfect... no substitute for the real deal 580. The sad fact is that while the 2X 60 degree (590ish break) is/was a great glove... i just couldn't catch well with it. Used it more like an extra blocker that happened to catch something. I actually had times early on where I'd go to catch the puck and have it fly right by the pocket because a 580's pocket is positioned differently. Well... that's what I blamed it on anyway.

Ha... that’s almost exactly the same set I made up and asked my wife what she thought. As @coopaloop1234 stated accurately... my wife went right for the jugular and asked “What medal did you win that I don’t know about?” when I showed her them as an option. HA!

They’re great though. Fortune favors the bold.

2 sets ordered so far? anyone else jumping?

I've got a set in graphite grey, blue and yellow coming.

I was the first user of the demo set I borrowed.  The Axis set will clearly take more breaking in than my G5's have.   I didn't bother taking the glove on the ice as I know I don't really like a 590 break from my Eflex set, but it was still super stiff out of the box.   CCM really needs to catch up the Brian's and Bauer in this area, although I'd say they're on par with Vaughn and close to Warrior at this point.

The blocker is noticeably lighter and rebounds are fairly lively off it.  I didn't get enough shots to be more definitive than that.

The pads are plenty stiff, so if this is your cup of tea you'll be happy.  Coming from the Warrior leg channel the loose fit QMSS felt comfortable, more so than the tighter EF4 leg channel.  The boot feels noticeably softer right out of the box than other stiff CCM pads I've used, and with some more break-in I expect it to be fantastic. The Max Rebound + foam on the pads definitely works as advertised.  We had a 3rd net set up against the boards at center ice last night and even medium speed shots were ending up below the faceoff dots at either end.  Shots from guys who could really rip them were caroming all the way down the boards and behind the nets in the traditional spots.  The demo pads have a SpeedSkin sliding surface and while it slides better than my EF4's, I'm glad I went with weave for my personal set.

Overall these feel better than they look.  The build quality is spot on, and any thoughts of "street hockey pads" go right out the window after spending some time with them.

I agree with this. Between going "modern" with the graphic and the split with Lefevre, lots of these issues are probably between people's ears

GGN posted a pic of a college guy playing with a pad with an Axis skin that was not an Axis.

UpscaledPad.thumb.png.8a11c0393589abde0e8b11d534b52701.png

I used an AI upscaler to resize the picture. Click to embiggen.

The most apparent thing right off the bat is the knee. Looks to be one piece like the Bauer Ultrasonic. The calf wedge looks pretty similar to the Ultarsonic as well. What's most interesting to me is that there are no seam lines at the knee like the Ultrasonic. See pic below.

US.thumb.png.0ba837fc322f888a92059de610f2f2e5.png

Now for pure speculation: if you zoom in on the knee/inside landing area, it doesn't look like jenpro or Speedskin at all. The knee/landing area material seems to blend in really well with the pad face, so I'm guessing it's all the same material.

Granted this is an upscale of a somewhat low-res pic so we've lost a lot of detail...

That one piece kneeblock is absolutely a huge upgrade (assuming they do it as well as Bauer has).  After just a couple games in a demo set of Hyperlites I never want to use anything else.  My concern though, looking at that more closely, is that it's not a full, integrated single piece like  Bauer's.  That looks like a traditional block made up of multiple pieces, just layered on top of a section of the gusset that was extended.   Time (and maybe @TheGoalNet) will tell I guess.

I wonder if it is just the knee landing itself that is one piece and the "skin" of the knee landing is wrapped/wound tightly around the knee stack pieces to simulate a one-piece knee.

We'll have to see the guts to be sure, but I agree it looks like it's going to be in three pieces from outside in -

  1. Knee wing, on the sliding surface, somehow integrated into the pad
  2. Knee block, probably separate and laced/bound in
  3. Knee cradle, directly interfaces with the player.

Also looks like the knee wing has a piece that wraps around the rest of the landing gear, similar to the Warrior lines (probably to keep everything tight and bundled in)

Axis 2 looks to be an interesting pad for sure and definitely on my radar...

Surprised no one posted anything about Axis 2 yet. Trav4Oilers posted a video showing the graphics and custom options.

Another user on GGSU had access to the customizer and took some screenshots. I used AI to embiggen them.

Glove has a new backhand. There is a new 591 break coming as well?

Blocker seems mostly the same. Blocker palm is changed and slight tweak to the padding on the sidewall/thumb.

Pad looks like it has a one-piece knee. Looks like they changed the QMS system in the calf. Calf riser seems a little smaller than Axis 1. New knee landing material too. Pad profile seems thinner than Axis 1 at the knee and above.

when the first photos of the 2nd generation pad appeared, there was talk of an integrated knee block, but there was also talk that it remained traditional and only the outer valve was sewn together with the casing

Knee velcro isn't sandwiched inside the knee stacks, looks like it attaches like the Ultrasonic.  Could be a confirmation of a one-piece knee block

Not sure why the inside toe droops down like this, could it be a performance feature?  Seems counter intuitive to me

Seeing as there's no Axis 2 thread yet I'll say this here, if you watch Trav's video we have significantly more "Solid" (jenpro) color options than we had available on Axis or EF5. Meaning if you want colors other than red, blue, navy, white, black, or silver you are no longer stuck with speedskin.
