farnung40
Hey everyone. I have these Vaughn Velocity V6 1000 Pro pads that I had gotten used. I definitely like the pads themselves, but something I do not like is the leather straps. They just take so long and are very annoying to put on. So, I was looking into maybe doing a DIY and changing out the leather straps into something newer, like elastic velcro or nylon straps. But, I have never done a mod to gear so I’m not sure where I should start. So I’m looking for some help on what I should do. New leg pads are quite expensive so I’m looking to wait until I really should get an upgrade to get them. One of my biggest questions is: What straps should I be getting? And where could I find those? (Links would be helpful) I saw someone do a mod on their Velocity 1100 V6’s and they had a y-strap that seemed to just fit into the old leather strap pocket, and they just had to stitch it in. That post can found here: (https://www.thegoalnet.com/forums/topic/1957-updating-strapping-on-v6-pads/) Is there anything like that out there or would I have to ask the company specifically as they did with Kenesky? I have also heard of someone taking it to a local shop and getting it done but sadly I don’t have any local shops. Any other advice and any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ll post some pictures of my pads down below.
Punisher Goalie
New straps are very doable with nylon if you want, but my strong suggestion would be to cut off and remove all the leather straps, get a Kenesky professor strap kit, some ProLaces, and that’s all you need. Any link to the kit? I'm not sure if I'm at the right spot online.

"They come with 2 pads that run behind you calf for comfort and 4 attachment loops to connect to the pad laces that do up with velcro and a snap for added strength." Sorry if I'm sounding a bit dumb. You connect the pieces to the pad lacing cord and the pad goes behind your calf. You install these on the lacing cord closest to your calf on the leg channel. itis121
For the kenesky strap I had to tighten the lacing throughout the pad. It pulled the cord about an inch out. As for strapping I took out all the leather buckles off my nxgs. Moded the removable ones by replacing it with quick release buckles/ nylon straps. I added elastic straps to the nxgs. OG HALS with skate lace cover. For the reactor I took out the elastic that runs inside the leg channel and modded a 1x strapping to fit. Cut the crs to run it through the boot strap point. And Brian's elastic toe strap. All the elastics attached to the oem velcro that connects the outer calf wrap to the calf sliding surface I havent used any Vaughn pads except for demoing. But look for places you can easily attach new strapping system to then mod from there
Vanniek71
So to get the kit I bought (I am the OP of the strapping thread) email Mike Howard at Kenesky (Someone stated that above) Tell him you want the Professor strap (Or rotation control strap) and the Y strapping that they use on their pads. Feel free to send him a pic of the strapping from the other thread so you are sure you get what you need. You will get 2 things - Professor/rotation control straps, and the Y strapping. Professor strapping is snap/velcro attachment to your current lacing near the knee block Y strapping has a few parts to it. The skinny elastic straps I just fed through the old strap channels and used the included plastic buckles to tighten them. The main cordura strap will need to be stitched in to the pad, if you have a speedy stitcher it takes maybe 10 mins tops to attach it. If you have any more questions PM me, if you aren't sure on something I can share my phone # and walk you through it. I promise its super easy!
