(they put the plastic cover over the keys so that it's easier to disinfect between customers; smooth surface means fewer nooks and crannies for something to hide)

(the gloves are pretty pointless for Average Joe, though)

The issue here is that I don't see them wipe it before nor after each customer. Pure ignorance

I am slated to start my season next Thursday in Pennsylvania and I was wondering if maybe someone could answer a few questions I have.

Unfortunately, due to management changing hands multiple times at the rink I play at, getting a solid answer is kinda hard. The only thing my captain has told me is that the rink will be disinfecting the locker rooms, but can't guarantee that they'll do it before we're scheduled to be in there. Nothing about social distancing in the rooms either or while getting to the ice.

So, I'm curious to see what others are doing to stay safe. Do you get half way dressed outside or come in your under clothing? Do you wear your mask the whole time before getting on the ice and then put it back on after you get off the ice?

Do you wipe down your pads or spray them with something when you get home? Maybe even wipe down your bag as well?

Any suggestions or info anyone might have, I would really appreciate it. Looking to get back on the ice, just want to be safe, is all. Thanks.

BC Canada here. We have an average daily infection rate of 100 people per day. Or 237 per 100,000 people. The provinces hit the worst are Quebec and Ontario and they're at 1,102 and 462 respectively per 100,00 people.

To put that in perspective, our worst areas are lower than the lowest state of Pennsylvania which is 1,425 per 100,000 people. You guys suck at this.

My two leagues I play in have slightly different rules on the ice, but the before and after is the same:

- Masks on when waiting outside and when walking inside
- dressings rooms only available 15/20 min before and after each game
- No masks required on the ice
- One league has kept the rules the same but just no changing ends and only 10 skaters each side

Other league has a few more rules:

- Faceoffs but no wingers or defenseman can enter the circle till the puck exits it first.
- Floating blue line
- Only one penalty can be served, any other penalties during that time are penalty shots
- 13 skaters per side
- And these stupid assed dividers: index.thumb.jpg.af62601cb4fe7e4d8883081c970b0fe0.jpg

End of the day, I've been playing 1-2 times a week since June and there hasn't been a single case transmitted at any of the arenas I've gone to (4 total).

I'm not worried, but again, I'm in an area where the virus is mostly an afterthought due to the low transmission rates as everyone here isn't retarded. Most people wear masks out and about regardless, social distancing is followed, yadda yadda.

Weve been practicing once a week for high school hockey since September. I've heard that all school sports are expected to start around January-ish as far as actually playing in games go, but nothing is set in stone still and there is no schedule outside of practices currently.
With cases rising around me recently, I really hope they can still make it work that we practice and eventually get a game schedule.

First high school scrimmages in the dells are expected to be Monday and Tuesday. Our official season kickoff is November 16th.

@coopaloop1234

Tell me about it. Thanks for the information. Seems like Canada has it figured out.

Does anyone wipe down their pads when they get back home? Wondering if it would mess up the materials after awhile. Thanks.

If you wipe it with a towel or something after the game to dry up the access water, it's fine. Even if you use a magic eraser after each game for puck marks (if that is your intentions), I don't see it being a problem.

My intention is to use a lysol wipe or something similar to wipe down the pads. I'm just trying to be extra careful. I should've clarified that in my previous post, sorry about that.

Gatineau/Ottawa area is locked down. I was supposed to start in September. It got pushed to October. Now it's January if things improve. Otherwise it will feel like an NHL lockout.

I've missed a season before on account of injury. This time around is different and almost feels worse. I hope all this goes away soon cause it's really messing with my patience.

My kids are playing. We live in NJ but have been forced to mostly play in PA. NJ just allowed league games last weekend, but my kids have been playing in PA since August for the most part.

As for the rules - they've been changing. Some rinks allowed parents in the rink, some don't. Some will let us in the snack bar/ restaurant to watch (snack bars are packed!) while the stands are empty. Nobody really has this figured out right now, so we just roll with it.

My kids teams mostly just tailgate with a parent streaming the game through facebook live. We have TVs in the parking lots with tents and chairs. A ton of beer, food, etc. While we complain we can't go in... this is pretty fun so far.

As for playing. All the rinks want the players to walk in the rink with a mask on. Some take temps for all who enter. Some rinks allowed locker room use, some don't and everyone is changing in common areas. (Might be an issue for men's league old guys who love to walk around the locker room naked).

Some teams mostly come dressed. I think it's their teams' rule or they just want to do that. Regardless, my kids walk in like normal and get dressed inside.

Earlier they were adhering to the 25 people limit with only 10 players per team allowed on the bench/ice, a coach for each team, 2 refs and scorekeeper. The players not on the bench were to stay in the locker (with mask on) until swapped at intermission. Yes, it wasn't well liked. The rules changed and now all the rinks are allowing full teams on the benches and all.

No handshakes. The rink then sends in people with sprayers to disinfect the benches, rooms and walkways between games.

There may have been numerous 'clinics' during the lockdown between two teams. There may have been practices during the lockdown. Right now we can watch practices in NJ from the adjacent restaurants for the most part. I don't really want to watch practices for my kids (parents actually cheer?). So parking lot with a cooler has been my hang.

Really no issues for the players to deal with. Just ask the rink what they want you to do and follow it. We don't want the rinks to get in trouble and we lose ice time. Hopefully we're all back to normal before I die (I'm 43). ha ha

Thanks for that information. I am actually moving to NJ at the end of the year, where do you guys play?

The rink I play at here in PA seems really lackadaisical about the whole situation. I guess I'll find out tomorrow how everything goes.

Sorry, missed this. My kids play out of Hollydell which is near Philly. Nj changed the rules for locker use again recently, so they have groups of chairs in areas around the rink with "A, B, C, D" taped on the wall behind that area. Teams just go to an area to dress.

We're heading up to the Rockets arena this weekend and they allow people in. You have to sign an online waiver and check in when you enter and get a temp scan done.

Was at Atlantic City (crap hole of a rink) and we snuck in the side door and stood behind the stands. ha ha

PA rinks have been different every time you go.

Generally speaking I dont think you need to wipe down your pads with lysol after every game. Maybe spray with diluted alcohol or vinegar afterwards. The virus has a life span of a few hours to few days living on surfaces, so id just say wash your hands well after handling.

Im in PA too, and wayyy too many people just seem to have given up with dealing with the virus.

Oh, cool. I never played down there. I did play in the Rockets arena growing up quite a bit though.

I've just been washing my hands as soon as I lay everything out when I get home and then shower immediately.

The rink I am playing at, you must get your temperature taken. In the beginning they allowed us to use locker rooms, but after the first game we've been told to dress in the common areas. They don't require that you wear masks, but I do, just not when playing. We still get our temperature taken and then just dress wherever. Which is kinda nice, you can get dressed without listening to the one guy who never stops talking...

I have a feeling that our season will be suspended soon.

"All Adult Indoor Sports Activities have been cancelled until further notice due to COVID-19."

This is our newest edict as of today in British Columbia.  This wiped out both my hockey and Aqua Fit Classes for now(?).

Well, at least I got to play 2 games already this week............
