Matching a graphic on a catcher is always a challenge. It's the only piece that is not rectangle. Pads and blocker has some kind of a similar proportion and it's rectangle, so only 2 vertical and 2 horizontal lines. A catcher has 2 vertical, 1 horizontal and 3 distinctive rounded lines. And I haven't talked about the break line that need to be cleared and the pocket that adds another set of curved and straight lines. The difference in canvas' frame makes everything looks off right from the start and there's a lot of technical limits to apply a graphic to a catcher. Absolutely love the vintage logo on there Is it the picture or the pads front straps and blocker's holes are printed? There seems to be a gradient in the blocker holes, something I would do with Illustrator. And the loose straps looks symmetrical, something too perfect to be real. I've seen Vaughn gear do the faux straps and blocker holes before and I have a feeling that Vaughn will be the very last company to incorporate printed technology. itis121
I think the client also has a say in the mask design. Where the given tendy shouts ideas of what they want on the mask and Dave incorporates it into the design. So I would picture the client would be given a moc design that they both agree apon before any paint hits the mask. And I think Lehner's mask doesn't include the holographic glitter stuff. His mask to me is more like a tattoo where the imagery and line work says a lot (also due to lack of colour). And it doesn't help that I like the sketch type mask he does mainly that's the type of art style I like to draw in as well. As my drafting prof likes to circle in green pen too, line weight matters w/ correct line size lol.

I love Dave's sketch work (not to say that he's the only one employing it)... and I 100% agree with your tattoo comment. It's probably the path I'd go down if I were to get another mask painted. The sketch allows for some great imagery while keeping the mask neutral in terms of color. I actually thought of asking a local tattoo artist who does some incredible portrait work etc. to sketch the mask (with the right pens of course) and then getting is clear coated. Hockeytown0001
Welcome Joseph Woll to the DaveArt Family! ️The new season is coming closer day by day and it is with a huge honor we unleash Joseph Woll´s first NHL mask. The design is a true Storyteller in every detail. The freehand airbrush painted eagles are a tribute to Joseph´s previous team, Boston College Eagles, in his way to become a pro. The brick wall in the background is connected to Joseph´s last name. On a distance it is a clean cut design with with strong contrasts which live and breath Toronto Maple Leafs, and when you come closer the detail work kicks in and it becomes a true Storyteller creation. Joseph, it is a true honor to be your mask artist and evolve your visions into a real pro mask. I am so happy and proud to be your artist. Thanks Joseph! @brick_woll29 @mapleleafs @nhl #DaveArt@torontomarlies @theahl #DaveArtFamily#DaveArtTheCradleOfCreativity @theahl #nhl Edited July 23, 2019 by Hockeytown0001
