So I’m a Habs fan, and I all but outright hate MAF… but the speculation that the Knights might sit him down tonight and start Lehner…? That is seriously not cool in my opinion. Not cool at all. Just the fact that they’ve created a situation to foster speculation is potentially undermining his confidence. How could they do that to a guy who has done right by them? Where would this franchise be - love him or hate him - without the flower?

FWIW, I hope Fleury DOES start tonight, and as a goalie and hockey fan in general, I hope he plays lights-out (but ultimately loses a 1-0 game to the Habs… I haven’t lost my mind completely- lol!)

Thoughts…?

I think it's a horrible decision. I very much agree with your points.

I have to ask, did you actually expect Vegas to tone down the theatrics?

I'm shocked there aren't go-go girls dancing in cages suspended over the ice surface.

Is the movie 'Casino' based on a real story? – Film Daily

This guy thinks there should be girls in cages over the ice...

Well I guess it worked out pretty well, eh?

Last two games have had the team that's deserved to win, lose.

Habs were lucky to force OT in game 3, let alone win it. (thank u goalie carey)

Habs were the better team in Game 4 but lost anyways.

Both semi-final series are 2-2 and there's no clear favourite in either one. Regardless of fandom, this is some decent hockey.

Have to agree with this; well put, @coopaloop1234.

I still think sitting Fleury was a dick move, and the fact that they won (despite being, arguably, the second best team of the two) had little or nothing to do with Lehner, in so much as doing more than Fleury would have.

What does everyone thing of the Lehner-for-Fleury goalie decisison by Vegas after the result last night?

Like, I know Vegas won the game and all to tie up the series 2-2, but I would have liked to see Fleury start the game. He deserves it.

Now who starts the next game?

Objectively, I think they’ve gold-painted themselves into a corner; they have to play Lehner now. What has it done to Fleury to get screwed like that? What would it do to Lehner after getting the win to tell him “psyche! Go sit down, Flower’s our number 1 guy.” No choice now… but that’s according to conventional hockey wisdom, which need not necessarily apply to Vegas - see above about crowds and fans - lol!

Are you Fleury's agent? lol.

Considering they've got $5 million of great goalie sitting there, using Lehner should always be a valid alternative. A slight change in goal can definitely change a teams demeanor.

Ha! That must be a sweet ride! I really dislike MAF and all the hoopla around him actually- but dude got a raw deal, as far as I can see. Who knows - maybe there’s some sort of injury thing not being disclosed…?
As for the money, I don’t think that enters into it in playoffs; they’re technically not earning - lol! Thinking long term (ie they want the best chance to go all the way), I’d think you want to keep both as full-potential options. I think they diminished Fleury’s potential for future games, should they want/need to use him again. Not saying he’s done, or ruined, or he’ll suck - just that he might not be as good as if they had handled things better. And, as I posted above, I believe they HAVE to stick with Lehner now, barring a blow out or injury. So they may have effectively burnt the Fleury option in favour of Lehner, who did well enough last night, but certainly did not dazzle. Well, except for with his sick Brian’s set!

I don't think there was any mishandling of their assets. Both guys played similarly well last year and a similar situation happened last year where Vegas switched back to Fleury against Vancouver, won, then went back to Lehner anyways.

This isn't anything out of the ordinary for Dobeur.

I think Lehner's current pads are lame. Actually, I don't think I've like any of his custom sets since he went to Vegas. Just never vibed with me.

Well, they may have done it before, but it yielded exactly zero Stanley Cups… but who knows. Fun to watch regardless!

I like the set - especially the colour scheme… and I like it WAY better than the gold True shit with a dozen red leather straps that the other guy wears, but I could see the customization not being for everyone.

Did you know that teams that play at least one goalie in the playoffs have a 1/16 chance of winning the Stanley Cup?

Crazy right?

Pff, Fleury's gold set is fantastic. Not like that try hard, silhouette of a knight on a golden background.

I've been a Fleury fan since his first year in the league.  Despite his penchant for soft goals, I have a ton of respect for the amount of athleticism and pure compete level in his game.  Also love watching Price.

I don't really have a team that I root for (free agent fan of some sorts).  Closest local team I'd root for is LA but they're out.  Wife is from Montreal, so I've fallen in with that bandwagon and it's always fun to cheer for the underdog.

Going into this series, I was torn as these are my two favorite guys to watch in this league.  Seeing Fleury get benched kind of cemented by decision to root for the Habs.

Not sure if this is like last series where Fleury elected to take G1 off against Colorado, there could be some behind-the-scenes stuff that is going on with player and bench boss...but I'm guessing Lehner's getting the starts the rest of the way.

Quite the dick move by Vegas’ coach to publicly state that Fleury’s misplay carried on into OT and basically was saying that’s why they lost. I still don’t agree with sitting him last game but Lehner did very well… and it yielded quite the quote from him too

FYI I’m absolutely rooting for montreal but it’s hard not to root for Lehner and Fleury, the only likable guys on that team in my opinion

Hostility for me ? Hostility for a Canadian …?
Trying to mix it up a bit; don’t want you to lose interest in me, and see you go chasing some other boys who are ostentatiously hostile online 😉

LOL! Hostility not intended - and probably wasn’t done well even if it was 😋

I mean it's 100% true; Vegas wins that game if Fleury doesn't misplay the puck. I'm a huge Fleury fan and think he could probably have shaken it off for game 4, but giving him a game to relax seems fine. From the videos of Fleury in practice after game 3, he has already moved on from it. Also, I think the idea was that Montreal had stymied Vegas in games 2 and 3 so effectively that putting in a new goalie and giving the rest of the team a mindset of "let's support him because he hasn't played in a game in a while" was a good idea. Granted, it did not really work out that way (in terms of goal support), but a win is a win.

I think Lehner finishes out this series now (win or lose), and if they win they'll go back to starting Fleury against Tampa/NYI.

Yea I saw a video clip of him fist pumping because he made a play with the puck behind the net in practice.
