(I’ll note that the one piece True skate has really re-emerged in the NHL this year after a year or 2 of guys switching to the 2 piece). Also let’s take a look at Freddy’s True One Piece skates, having the the lower part painted white. This provides more evidence in my ‘Freddy Anderson is a Carey Price fan-boy theory.” Since leaving as the face of Bauer Freddy has more or less copied every piece of Price’s wardrobe. Price in Lefebvre with leather straps and Cowling skates in 2020. Freddy switches to Lefevre with leather straps and cowlings. Price switches strapping so does Freddy. Is that a 590? Freddy is in a 590. Pro’s choice and Vaughn pants? You betcha. Price back to one piece skates? So is Freddy. Paint your cowlings white? So will I. They basically wear identical kits minus the sticks. We have a Jim Carrey Cable Guy level stalker here. “I just want to hang out, no big deal.” Lefevre calls Freddy at the beginning of the season. motowngoalie
Magnus Hellberg signed with Detroit, and his Brian's set is beautiful If I recall correctly, this was a concept done by Brennan Rudd. 6

Nice to see a goalie take advantage of Brian’s customised services! Last person I remember doing such things was Aaron Dell. I’m not a red wings fan on any level, but those are awesome!

ilyazhito
If I was in the Show, I'd have team coloured pads and gloves, probably even team-inspired patterns. When I played the NHL video games, I would have my character's pads be in team colours, because there were no real custom graphics options in game. It looks painful if he is. It hurt when I would miss the knee stack and hit the ice with my knees, but thankfully that problem went away when I got bigger pads that fit better. It's strapping though, not size, for him. Edited April 17, 2022 by seagoal

Yes, the knee pads that NHLers wear are really good, but it seems excessive to wear the pads in a way that will cause one to land painfully. What exactly is his strapping issue, from what you can tell on the picture?

Wonder if he has the standard black knee cap or the modified Swiss version.
ilyazhito
Wow. I did not expect the knee pad to interfere with his strapping setup.

Smith's knee coming off his knee block has more to do with the way he specs and straps his pads than it does with the knee pads he wears

So y'all are saying that Mike Smith's pads are slipping around because the straps are too loose? The pads being too loose cause his pads to overrotate. That is a serious performance issue. There's no reason a kneepad should interfere in this scenario.
ilyazhito
Wow. That is strange. An NHLer should know the difference between straps being loose and too loose. I'm surprised his goalie coaches haven't addressed that.

I would speculate that he and his coaches have experimented with tightening things up for him and he feels as though it has a negative impact elsewhere in his game. At the end of the day, if you're comfortable 95% of the time, that's probably the right setup.
