Chenner29 Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 Here's a Louisville TPS parallelogram shaped blocker And this Vaughn with the angled side roll A model prior to this had a scaled down vertical roll from a leg pad too 1 Quote

The blocker was very light but he became very loose after 1 or 2 years, it was hard to control the rebound with. Quote

His rebounds were wild. Quote

MTH Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 The brown dura soft pads. Sticky! But pushed the pad material envelope away from leather. Quote

Wonder35 Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 How about this beauty made by Rawlings? I used to have a photo of a Japanese hockey goalie wearing one of these in the Olympics, mid 50's. It looks more like something a baseball player might use if he wore glasses, the catcher? I picked this one up about 30 years ago but never had the balls to wear it in action. 4 Quote
MTH Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 They still wear a version of them for girls/womens lacrosse: My boys play, but they both have proper helmets. I don't get why girls don't wear a helmet too. 1 Quote

I don't get why girls don't wear a helmet too. Women's lacrosse has some of the most bizarre rules. Every year in my high school club we'd play a reverse game with the girls team, but we would swap rule sets. In women's lacrosse you: Get penalized for hitting anything other than your stick with their stick. Cannot stand in their way (like setting a pick) I have no clue how you are supposed to defend Have a purposefully neutered stick They have no pocket and cannot have any pocket Different lines on the field. Probably other stuff that I don't know. I always found it funny how their goalies wore more gear than the boys too, considering the shots couldn't be as hard if only because the way the heads of the sticks had to be laced (I think lacrosse goalies are bonkers, they wear so little for how hard they get hit). raucebyalien Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Although they never got made (as far as I'm aware), a classic piece of GSBB folk-law was Keeks 'Tilt Fly' pads - very controversial at the time because they were hyped as a 'game changer'! Here's a video for anyone unaware of the concept: 6 Quote
MTH Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Nice video. Great idea. My wife repairs teeth for a living - so those pucks flying up would increase her business from all the mens league heroes with their half shields on. 2 Quote

Wonder35 Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 (edited) LP, thanks for the confirmation. The image of that leather/wire contraption was tucked away in a distant corner of my memory. Its acquisition came with a newsprint advertisement for this beauty. 1936 huh, it’s older than I had thought. Now, where did I leave my car keys? Edited September 18, 2021 by Wonder35 Quote

I don't have any daughters. But when I was league president for a few years, we ordered face protectors for every little girl in the league to wear/have. I think the rule is just that pitchers wear them and maybe third. But why just protect a few? So everyone gets one. I don't think kids in the of wear them. At least the baseball bats were tuned down a few years ago, so the boys don't wear them. Although there are tournaments and all that still allow the old bats that were insane in the pop they provided. Scary for pitchers (and their parents). Quote
