ser33
... this is the end of Solomon Grundy I really like the wide leg channel. since the days of Reebok P4 so on Optik I also made it wider on the Bauer, I sewed on the outer shin guard according to the old markings but as the thickness of the core has decreased, the inner lining has shifted towards the edge of the pad. along with the protection of the shin, the canal of the leg has become wider. not as extremely wide as Vasy's but definitely wider than stock this weekend was done sewed all parts of both pads and tightened the laces sewed on the top binding jenpro and the bottom binding, hiding the ends of the laces on this the assembly was over then it was necessary to make a strapping stock system CRS could not be restored, so I made the familiar and beloved system with a V-shaped elastic straps, which I did on both P4 and Optik since I did not yet know how long the harness would need, I decided to make it adjustable Bauer envisioned optional leather straps for which there were already holes and which I expanded for a 2 inch elastic even at the stage of sewing on the nameless shin pad, I took two buckles left over from Optik and sewed them to Bauer before that I just sewed elastic straps into Velcro but why not make a fully adjustable system? all the more, this is Bauer! and I made my own analogue of the Tune Fit system for this I took two buckles Remaining anchorages from Optik for integrated knee protection cut off one Velcro wrapped around the buckle and sewn passed the elastic strap through the buckle and secured it to the pad this straping system allows you to attach it to any part of the shin protector the toe bridge remained took a piece of HD foam, cut and pasted used a new 6mm elastic cord cut to size, inserted into the toe bridge and attached Velcro for protecting the inner seam and repairing ridge cuts, glued on PVC protection well, here is the result of 1.5 months of work thank you all for your attention. any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Let us know how this kind of straping works wih Supreme pads. thanks I will definitely share my impressions as soon as I have the nearest ice with these pads. I don’t think there will be any cardinal difference - I’m used to this system and have been playing with it for 5 years already. And Bauer himself used it on Ultrasonic. but I'm still looking forward to the first time on the ice with them
ser33
Before starting work, I measured the pads from the fold of the boot to the top the total length was 94 cm, that is, 37 inches, which corresponded to the Bauer XL (36 + 1) upon completion I got a total length of 90 cm - 35.5 inches but at the same time, I left the knee stack position as on 36 inch pads. so now the pads are more correct to count 36-1)) the main reduction was in the elevation of the hip. but due to the greater angle of inclination, the pads should cover the 5th hole well even with a very narrow butterfly and now the most interesting pad weight before and after less than 2 kg !!! I don’t know exactly how much the Bauer's 35.5 ”stock pads weigh, but for me the result under 2kg is just impressive! Let us know how this kind of straping works wih Supreme pads. it took two weeks to return to the ice with these pads due to illness. and it was ... at least very strange. the muscle memory of my legs screamed at me - "what is this? why did you put on these boards? how are you going to play them? take them off immediately!" After finishing the assembly, I could only try on the pads on bare feet, without skates and knee protectors. everything seemed normal - the rotation of the pad is excellent, the feel on the foot is also great. but that all changed when I put them on in the dressing room ... the pads slid forward and down on the skate tightening the elastic on the lower leg only aggravated the situation - the pads stopped returning to the neutral position after the butterfly the elastic band of the toe bridge was very loose I passed it through all the holes of the ridge to reduce the sag. and it helped a little. played the workout with great difficulty, although I made a lot of saves, but I felt very uncomfortable most of the weekend was devoted to brainstorming to determine what I did wrong I compared Opt1k and 1S - the profile to the knee is almost identical, the knee blocks are at the same level, even the angle of the boot is almost the same first of all, I shortened the elastic of the skate and began to try on the pads on the skates and knee protectors I found old straps from P4 to put on the Bauer and use with the Lundi loop but for now I put them aside - I have been playing without them for a year now and would not want to return to them and tried it on again, changing the tension of the shin elastic it didn't help. I changed the attachment points of the elastic by stitching it inside the leg channel as originally intended by Bauer epiphany came when I completely unfastened the elastic of the shin on one pad. he began to dangle, but the sensations on his feet changed dramatically for the better I went to Google to see how Vasya wears his strapping when he had 1X he had a custom wide leg channel and still strapped them pretty loosely then he returned to the standard channel, but still tied freely looking at these pictures and comparing the leg channel of Opt1k and 1S, I saw the main difference - that on Opt1k, that on 1X, the lateral shin protection is greater than on 1S. my thin legs completely covered her and even with a tight tightening of the elastic of the lower leg, they freely rotated in this channel. on 1S shin protector is much smaller and does not provide for tight elastic tightening then I came across a video of Trav where he skates in Ultrasonic and they sit very freely too I think I found the right direction to confirm it, I threw aside my elastic aka Tune Fit and sewed a standard 1S elastic in the middle of the lower leg it got much better. but the old elastic was too stretched and the pad was too loose. so I sewed a double elastic on the other pad yes, that's it! that is, the reason for my inconvenience on the first ice was not in the strapping system itself, but in the degree of its tension. in general, I screwed up and initially focusing on Opt1k made a very short and tight elastic band so I just changed one point of attachment of the elastic by moving it to the outside of the protection and leaving the adjustment system the next ice will show how right I am. or wrong to be continued
ser33
yesterday's ice showed that I moved in the right direction. loosening the shin band gave the desired fit and pad feel to the leg. the transfer of the place of attachment of the elastic band gave the necessary headroom for adjustment. in general, the impressions are very positive. pads like more and more
ser33
Hello again after purchase and repair 2X I never used 1S again. why? I did not make a separate comparison of 1S and 2X, but I will talk about it briefly 1S definitely glide better, have hotter rebounds, close the 5th hole better (after my upgrade). it turns out that they are better than 2X in everything. except for one that turned out to be the most important - 1S feel like alien boards tied to the leg, while 2X are like old comfortable jeans that you don’t notice the main inconvenience of 1S was expressed in their "creep" down the skate. moreover, tightening the straps did not improve the situation, but only added discomfort and worsened rotation. I did something wrong... at the end of January, I got to know Omicron closely, and when I felt better, and I got tired of social networks and serials, I took out 1S again and began to look for the reason for the uncomfortable landing. for a long time I visually compared 1S and 2X trying to understand the reason for the "creep". and i think i figured it out the problem was in the shape of the back of the boot that falls on the skate namely in its shape and angle. in the process of recovery, I removed the soft foam rubber, which had almost completely decomposed from the leg canal it shouldn't have been done. well, or it was necessary to replace it with something that creates a "step" at the top of the boot understanding the problem is the first step to solving it I removed the bottom binding and ripped the side seam, after that, loosened the lacing cut a strip of 15mm foam and glued into the leg channel I also found that the leg channel at 1S is much looser and wider than at 2X. I didn’t take photos of measurements, but the difference is about 2.5 cm. I have rather thin legs and an unnecessarily free leg channel is not required. in addition, its width and better binding of the pad to the foot have to be compensated by tightening the elastic straps, which also does not have the best effect on the overall feel of the pad on the leg I cut off the outer wing of the lower leg and sewed it back on, shifting it 2 cm inside the leg channel then reassembled the pad thanks to the addition of foam, a platform was formed on the back of the boot and a distinct "place for a knee guard" fitting showed that the effect of "creeping" disappeared But that's not all to be continued...
ser33
Ever since I owned the Premier 4, I've been using a skate-to-pad elastic. more precisely, even earlier, on the previous pads, by simply copying the brians toe strap. and already on P4 switched to bungee. I really liked it and since then on every pad I have used them, moving from pad to pad - from Opt1k to 1S, from 1S to 2X. it didn't take long, but anyway I got bored and decided to make a second set this required an elastic cord, pieces of jenpro and Velcro. I had all this. whole skein of cord Velcro in different sizes and pieces of jenpro from old Itech pads while looking for jenpro pieces i stumbled across a couple of sleeve straps from my TotalOne C/A which fit me perfectly cut them in half, getting four parts from each second part I separated one Velcro "dad" by sewing instead of it a Velcro "mom" making holes for the cord and tucking the edge under the Velcro it turned out like this then plug in the cord and tied to a toe bridge now each of my pads has its own bungee to be continued... further will be even more interesting
ser33
I've always wondered "what's in the pad?" and I have always followed the development of their design and current trends In my opinion, the biggest revolution in strapping has been the introduction of the Brians Smart Strap. in the past, leather or nylon straps had to be loosened to rotate the pad, which compromised pad control and responsiveness with the use of elastic straps, it was possible to fasten the pads more tightly for better control but without disturbing the rotation I started using elastic straps before the Premier 4 and have stayed with them ever since. at the same time, I am looking for new ways to attach the pad to the legs I read in IngoalMag about CCM research that showed that the main interaction of the legs with the pad is under the knee and upper calf i tried this change on my old pads by moving the elastic strap attachment points up it really worked in this old photo you can also see that the knee elastic is sewn into Velcro along with the lower leg elastics does it remind you of anything?) right also done by Brians on their X-strap this is a very convenient system in terms of the speed of putting on / taking off, but it has one very important nuance - usually the tension on the shin and knee straps requires different things and it is very difficult to set up the system as required perhaps for this reason, Brians abandoned its further use. but I really like this idea. I thought why not take the idea of matching the knee strap with the calf strap to a new level using the TuneFit idea I copied from Bauer? separating one end of the shin elastic from the buckle, I sewed it to the knee elastic this gave new sensations and in general should have worked, but it was necessary to introduce the possibility of adjusting the length of the elastic band in order to change its tension I took the rest of the CRS parts which are made of neoprene, an elastic material that allows them to have some stretch as well. sewed an elastic band with an adjusting buckle to them and sewed them themselves to the shin pad and fixed the elastic it turned out similar to the CCM mounting system for attaching the shin guard, I used a standard Bauer elastic sewn to the shin wing with all the positive qualities of elastic straps, they have one significant drawback - they are elastic (lol). that is, it's hard to set a limit on their stretch range to avoid this: rigid straps are deprived of this disadvantage, but they are also deprived of the advantages of elastic ones, which I mentioned above then why not combine the advantages of both straps by limiting their stretch? I met several times, including on this forum, fixing the knee using a nylon strap. such a strap will definitely limit the mobility of the knee and its possibility of falling from the knee block found a piece of nylon sling and sewed instead of elastic left leg nylon, right leg elastic on the floor without skates it worked. the nylon strap allowed for tighter pad response, while the neoprene CRS part gave the necessary mobility believing in a positive result of the fitting. I bought a 5 cm (2 inch) piece of nylon strap and sewed it onto the pads it remains to test it on ice, which will not happen soon due to covid
ser33
finding himself a new toy and switching to recovering Bauer gloves I completely forgot (pulled into the background) the Bauer pads in the meantime, he has already played two ices in them Most importantly, I finally did something right! (laughs) - the last mod with the addition of foam to the leg channel completely justified itself - the "creeping" effect is completely gone! it's still two boards tied to the legs, but how do those boards work now! I'm starting to like these pads more and more and more 2X! the new strapping system also works (surprisingly). slipping of the knee off the knee block is now a thing of the past. the feeling of a tight pad following the foot has increased without compromising comfort (I don't like pads that are too tight) it remains to solve two small nuances that have appeared and I think (hope) work on these pads will be completely finished 1) The notched adjustment buckle on one pad does not work well - the nylon strap loosens during play I plan to solve this very simply - choose a comfortable length of the strap and simply sew it to the CRS flap and adjust it by moving the Velcro on the shin wing 2) the mentioned Velcro, which I made from a part of the Brians Velcro for the knee guards - it's funny, but the Brians Velcro is not "friendly" with the Bauer Velcro!))) Poor engagement, with sudden movements of the leg, the Velcro slides along the wing of the lower leg, loosening the strap I will try to solve this issue by sewing on the "native" Velcro Bauer, which I have from the knee block
ser33
after the above I replaced the velcro on the zipper and had a few ices after that. however, the problem was not only Velcro I did not take into account what I myself said earlier - a hard strap must be worn a little relaxed. this not only affects the rotation but also allows the pad to “break away” from the foot in some playing situations having spent many years with elastic straps, I got used to a tighter binding of the pad so I and a new strapping system with hard straps, I still fastened them very tight it was a mistake the elastic part of the CRS on the shin gave the necessary little stretch but did not give it for the knee part, as I hoped because the buckle on the zipper completely limited the mobility of the strap through it tightly fixing it it was necessary to add elasticity to the knee part of the strap without changing the very concept of a hard strap the idea of "dosed" adding elasticity is not new and is used on the same bootstraps where a small piece of elastic is added to a hard strap I sewed a piece of double elastic to the knee end of the nylon strap and the other end of the elastic to the knee block after that I assembled the whole system the addition of elastic gave the necessary, precisely limited mobility, while retaining all the advantages of a hard strap
ser33
Bauer! you're scaring me! lol in the early spring of 20 I heard about the idea of an integrated knee block and implemented it in my project later successfully transferring it to Opt1k at the same time, the new Ultrasonic came out with the Stabilislide system. a year later I found out how Bauer realized this idea in February 22, while repairing the catcher 1S, I moved the attachment point of the wrist strap I did the same thing two years earlier on my XLT24 catcher a month later, in the thread about the new line, Bauer Mach saw what Bauer had done at the same time, he changed the strapping system on his 1S pads by moving part of the CRS from the outside to the inside a couple of days ago in the same topic about Max saw this hahaha, Bauer, what are you doing? stop it! lol although.... why not? Bauer, I propose to trade MY idea of a one-piece adjustable knee/calf strap for a new set of Max. ahaha
ser33
On 8/29/2021 at 10:37 AM, ArdeFIN said: You are not planning to bend the thigh lift at all like the Brians are? That would help the most with 5-hole coverage... And yet I did it! and not consciously, without any desire. and without surgery. it just so happened - lately I keep my hockey bag upright and the pads in it are upside down. you know what this well-known life hack leads to) the pads have acquired a very noticeable bend above the knee and now perfectly close the 5th hole now after all my modifications I am almost 100% satisfied with these pads. practically... the only thing that caused inconvenience was the Velcro on the strap clasp. Due to the fact that the strap practically does not stretch during intensive play, the Velcro was periodically unfastened. replacing its part, as I said earlier, did not solve the problem. the soft part of the Velcro on the shin flap is already becoming unusable and does not hold well. I'm too lazy to change it because it would be nice and high quality, as I'm used to, I would have to disassemble the side seam of the pad, separate the flap of suppuration, remove the binding from it. replace the Velcro and then put everything back together. I don't have the time or motivation to do this. so I just bought a plastic fastener, sewed one part to the shin flap and in the other part I passed a nylon strap there will be an ice test on friday night Edited May 11, 2022 by ser33
ser33
in one of my threads I wrote that I like the 1S's rigidity, hot bounces and glide, but I don't like the feel of the fit on my foot at all, and the hard boot, and the straight hip lift profile makes it difficult to close the 5th hole. on the other hand, the Vapor has a great pronounced S-shaped profile, a soft boot and a good strapping system, but the bounces and glide on my former 2X Pro were not very good compared to the 1S The work took up the entire summer as it was done little by little from time to time here is a comparison of the 1S and 1X profile so i did an internal break above the knee on the 1S core already better also cut the hard boot and glued soft foam allowing it to bend easily the next thing i did was trim the knee block. as experience showed, i shouldn't have sewn the elastic into the trim and i don't like the composite sidewall made of different materials either I cut the landing side out of 1680 denier material and the side part entirely out of leather and during stitching I inserted this nylon strap. You'll understand why later) what else i didn't like about 1Y is the outer wrapper of the shin completely disassembled, separating the cellular gray foam I cut out a template repeating the shape of the 1X and assembled a new protection from Bauer cellular foam on thin self-adhesive foam it turned out like this after which I covered it with nylon and sewed on Velcro Next comes the shin strapping. Everything is simple here - similar to tune fit then came the knee strap. i have some ultrasonic pads waiting for repair. their knee strap is adjustable in length made a copy with a little trolling Bauer from me I had some rubber bands from my former Optik with Velcro and Jenpro and I was just too lazy to make them again so I made new ones based on them after which I attached all the rubber bands to the pads. This is what the loop of nylon webbing on the knee block was for well and the general appearance of all the rubber bands and the pads face to face with 1X The 1X have more of a curve because I stored them and carried them in my bag upside down from the start. Over time the 1S will be the same yesterday was the first ice with updated pads. and yes, i like everything. i achieved what i wanted Edited September 4 by ser33
