Your backyard looks like 2 pallets of sod. Don't hate. We live in a state full of glorious sod farms.

Just overseed the seams and where the sod meets your existing lawn that looks like sod already.

Reid Sod Farm - Sod | Freehold, NJ

I have been thinking heavily about sod since you mentioned it last night.  I was outside cleaning up the yard around the new patio and I estimate that area is probably between 1k-1500sqft.  I didn't have a chance to measure, I was just going off what I know my front yard square footage is compared to this specific area of the back yard.  One of the more popular local sod farms does actually sell sod in the form of the same grass seed I always use.  Quoted me $0.84 or $0.86 per sqft(I forget which).  Like I said, not cheap.

We want to have a little "new patio party" in the next few weeks so this is why I am contemplating sod.  My yard is going to be a mud pit for quite a while if I seed.

Wood firepits are awesome. But I do hate smelling like a campground all night and all. Propane is tempting.

I have a real fireplace in my house that I have a few cords of wood for in the yard. Using wood in a firepit allows you to burn the random pieces of pine that end up in my wood piles.

I top soiled and seeded my dogs' toilet. I know the grass stands little chance for longevity, but when they destroy sod, the sod just turns to a black slimy mess. With seed, the grass gets a little better rooted and will hold up.

One of my dogs is an Aussie/lab mix. So the yard to topsoil was basically entertainment for her. Looks like a horse track now after a race.

Went with the Jonatan Greene fall seed.  Curious as to where it went (trampled in the dirt). May look like Sloth's hair when it starts growing.

Some before/after pictures.  Been meaning to post these.  Driveway still hasn’t been paved yet, that’ll happen next week.

This is one of the best before pictures I could find that shows the old porch as well as the big hump in the front yard.

Just showing the detail the mason put in, cut the stones to fit against the siding.

The wife and I put in a little extra work to regrade the yard a little bit lower than the landscaping company did.  I’m much happier with the outcome now.

Again, best before that I could find of the back patio.  Neither my wife nor I were smart enough to take specific before pictures before they started 🤦‍♂️

Looks great.

When you getting the awning off the back of the house?

Plus TV mounted to house is a requirement. You'll be able to spend time out there almost through the entire winter with an awning or a roof. My buddy had one put on and we spend many days out there through the fall/winter/spring.

Your setup is perfect. Nice work.

Aaaaaactuallyyyyyy.  We did have a little secret installed into the patio for just this purpose.  There are two spots in the patio that are false stones.  They each cover a sleeve that was installed two or three feet down into the ground for the purpose of inserting two 4x4 posts in order to connect a sun sail from the house to the posts.  We haven't had it set up yet though.

Also, you need a gate to your neighbor's yard for pool access.

Hahaha I wish.  He did say we are more than welcome to use it whenever we want.  As nice of an offer as it was I would feel very odd just walking over whenever.  We had hoped to get our own pool next year but we had some bad news dropped on us yesterday morning.

So while half of the front yard was a mess we were going to have the cesspool cover raised about 2 feet to allow for easier access for future cleanings(that's what that red coffee can is by the stoop in that night picture where I am grading).  They come Sunday morning to find that my current cover is cracking and one or two blocks in the top layer are also starting to fail.  A blessing in disguise I guess.  Who knows how long it would have held until eventually failing and imploding.  Anyways, here is to another unforeseen $7k on a new septic system install in November.  There goes our swimming pool next year.  One more year with our trailer park pool.

I have a patch of bermuda grass in my front yard that is like lawn cancer. Should I just go at with a grass killing spray and try to cut the edges? Or just cut it all out?

Brutal crap-o grass.

You have Bermudagrass all the way up in NJ???  That is pretty far north for that grass.  Although I have zoysia all over my area so I guess why not Bermuda.  Anyway, you're best bet for that shit is glyphosate.  Bermudagrass spreads like the plague. Its going to be hard to get it all, and even if you do, it will probably come back unfortunately.

Yeah I'll get a picture of it. I think it's bermuda grass. It's soft almost like moss but a fine blade and stays relatively short.

It turns to mush when it's slightly wet and my boys are playing on it.

It's starting to yellow around the edges here. I'm just outside Philly in south jersey.
