Late on the reply to this, but below is from when I originally applied the PPF... only change to now is that I have removed the PPF on the knee block extension. I used Xpel with their adhesion promoter after cleaning the surfaces with alcohol. Cut slightly larger than you need... apply it and work any air pockets out and work into the seams with a a vinyl squeegee tool. Apply heat at the corners and seams to adhere them tightly... stretching slightly over the corners in particular. Allow it to cool... and trim as needed.

@BadAngle41 Sorry, but I thought you removed the PPF?

I have purchased  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VG6SWS which many of you recommended and thats the best thing I did. I weight 135kg (300pounds) so without any modification I was just not able to do any slides at all. I have covered the whole side and now I can do slides without any issue and it helped me with so many saves. I dont have issue with oversliding as for me with my weight its probably similar to many of you without any film on pads. After four sessions it still looks like brand new, no marks of damage. Used heatgun for application and left it to rest for two days before first practice.

I had stuff on my Machs for 2 years? Never had to replace it.

I've got this on both of my CCM sets at this point and am debating adding small patches to my Hyperlites.   No real need, just trying to have consistency among all 3 sets.

If you don't like the way your pads slide, there's really no downside to doing this. It's cheap, easy to do, easy to reverse if you hate it, and effective.  Plus, if you know someone with a vinyl cutter (Cricut, etc...) you can cut the PPF to the exact shape of your knee block on that and take the install from easy to idiot-proof.

Sorry if this has been explained somewhere and I missed it. But I've seen these two links recommended:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VG6QYS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VG6SWS?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

I believe theyre slightly different. Which one seemed to be best and most durable of these two links?

Thanks!!!

The 3M product is great... but personally I applied Xpel PPF. I have it on my car and it's great stuff. You can order custom sheets at the link below...

I'm using this: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B073X7WF5J/

and it works great. Probably better stuff out there in terms of durability, but I cannot complain for how long I've had them on and my frequency of play. The best thing to do is make sure you round those edges though which I didn't do so I got some chipping.

For $13, and with plenty left over I have nothing bad to say.

I'm pretty confident difference between those two is just size. As I learned, most important thing is, it has to be polyurethane, as PVC will shatter really easy on ice. I don't think you can really notice difference between 6mil and 8mil, but 8mil should be in theory more durable as its thicker. I knew I will cover whole sides so that's only reason I ordered bigger size.

@Ryan W's first link is 6 mil thick, the second link is 8 mil

8 mil is harder to get to bend around corners and get a nice clean install.

I have zero durability issues across 3 sets of pads using the 6 mil.

IMO the quality of the install is more important than the thickness of what you use.  Having a PPF edge exposed on the sliding surface is going to compromise it over time.  Water is going to get trapped under it, causing it to curl and then peel.

Used heat gun for mine and had no issue with that. Actually I felt like it's extremely flexible even without any heat. But the difference being so small, I still don't think it's possible to notice, as long as it is same material.
