seagoal
Nice photo grabs there @A.YOUNGoalie13. Thanks. It's not about a happy medium, it's about actual engagement and functionality or not. Toe ties do something, they have a function. Which is to say there is a proper and improper way to use them. Look at Fleury and Gibson in your pics. Very different example of length in the lace but in both the laces are still engaged and doing something in this frame. Now imagine them jumping back up to their feet. Which one engages and functions quicker and more directly? Fleury's, obviously. Why? His are shorter, so they will move in direct relation to his skates quicker. Imagine doubling the length of the lace for both Fleury and Gibson. Who's is now pointless and not functioning? Gibson's, right? I can't think of an example of an NHL goalie with toe ties that are too long--pointless--right now, but we can easily find examples of NHL goalies using pointless straps. Just because an NHL goalie uses something doesn't mean it's functional. Keep that in mind. Edited March 16, 2022 by seagoal

Maybe 8 is too many but where is the happy medium? Yes, but their pads are rotating back to center when they want them to You're overthinking this, use what works for you and if it's not working then change it Each of the pics you provided show a different amount of slack. It's not the amount of knots that is important, it's the distance between your toe bridge and front skate post 2
