I think if you want to represent old skool, the 90s and very beginning of the 2000s style sets work better in my opinion. I.e. Brian’s air pac!

It looks great, going to upload my pictures (some not taken by me) here in a second. Additional edit to add that Jack Campbell severed his Vaughn contract by appearing in Brian's gear in yesterday's game. Full GNetikVs, stock flex on the pads, added leather straps (redundant with the calf), and leather boot instead of nylon. There really is nothing more reliable and consistant then the old buckles, even in 2023.

The idea of hybrid elastic and nylon/leather setups has intrigued me a lot lately since you could have a comfortable, tight fitting pad but without the risk of the elastic stretching too far away from your leg. Aka CCM QMSS and True FRS The V2s I picked up fit super tight however they occasionally limit flexibility because leather doesn’t stretch like elastic Edited January 2 by ThatCarGuy

Not to discredit, but I know some guys use the leather only because they like how it sounds or looks (Daccord being an example of the latter).

I like having one "hard" strap duplicating my strap running from knee to calf. I wear it loose enough I never feel it, but after seeing the video of the goalie who got his pad pulled off by a skater who got caught up in the thigh rise, I wanted to make sure mine stay put. It also makes for a convenient way to carry my pads, as everything else is nylon/elastic. Edited January 3 by Puckstopper

coopaloop1234
I definitely miss the feeling of doing up leather straps and the overall look of them. Too bad I'll never go back to them.
