Pokey Reddick 1990 Pads

NHL Network just broadcasted the 'Raising the Cup' from the 1990 final.

Saw a pair of odd as heck pads on the Oilers side celebration.

They belong to Eldon 'Pokey' Reddick:

Why on Earth would you have just white on the thigh rises? Also, white straps.

I'm guessing the white part was added to the face of the pads. Guys didn't change pads during the season and white gear was all the rage in that period. No idea. Would love to ask him decades later... lol

Other observations from the 1990 cup celebration. Oilers won at the Boston Garden. They were the next to last team to fit on the new Stanley Cup. The announcer incorrectly stated that the NHL would have to add a ring for the 1992 champs to fit. Thankfully the NHL decided to remove the highest large band and add a new one on the bottom to keep the classic shape of the cup.

Boston fans were great.

The post game stuff was natural. Just guys in gear celebrating how they wanted to. No sponsored rooms. No hats and t shirts on every player the second the game ended. The Oilers got to skate around the ice and had tons of room. Only a few other folks were on the ice (camera guy and other guys holding the cord to the camera). The locker rooms are almost men's league quality. It's refreshing to see.

But Reddick's pads... wow.

Are they Miller pads? He typically wore Miller gear while with the Jets:

The 1990-91 season, he came back wearing all white Vaughn gear:

Here's the post cup picture with the team. Fuhr injured his shoulder in March 1990 and again in the season finale game. So he wasn't on the playoff roster in 1990. (Ranford won the Veznia):

You can see Reddick's pads here too pretty well. Maybe they were white and just faded? They are unique to say the least.

Don’t you mean Conn Smyth?

I am guessing they are Miller. Maybe this is around the time the league starting asking for logo fees? Roy's pads were blank around this time.

As for the colors? Maybe he liked the feel of OG leather in the shins, but was okay with white synthetics in the less important areas for weight and durability savings?

Was that year that the NHL made companies who didn't pay - eradicate their logo.

They aren't D&R gloves.
