Would be awesome to watch that mill work in action!
TheGoalNet
@Ghostender + @Pauly35or00 - wouldn’t make any sense. You’d start with a giant block of Ti and widdle it to nothing. It would take a true 5X tool path, tiny expensive cutting tools, and insane amount of programming... 3D printing could be feasible on a small scale
Ghostender
Hmmm - OK - it was meant to be a joke - I do have a slight bit of familiarity with machining processes. In seriousness, I don't know if you could 3D print with Ti, (I have heard of people doing "additive manufacturing" with nickel as a filler) or even if you could if you would get the desired impact strength. - Wire is typically anisotropic due to strain hardening during the fabrication process so is probably stiffer than stock Ti. If you were doing production, you could probably mill or waterjet cut a "development" of the cage out of a sheet of desired thickness (with a secondary rounding over process using a coved milling cutter) and then press it between a male and female die (allowing for springback etc). That would eliminate the welding process completely (just thinking out loud)
TheGoalNet
Warwick and Coveted both sell Ti cages that SHOULD be high quality. They both said their various offerings are compatible with other helmets

TheGoalNet
@TitanG exactly. Once I’m done with my “stock” review I might dive in deeper and pull the trigger
