Last night was first skate in my shadows and already feel better in them than my vapors. IDK if its the 100 degree boot but something about having more free skate just felt weird to me. I will say the stiffness is noticeable even over my M5s. IDK if its because I used the M5s for over a year so they are broken in but when i lean on the pads the thigh rise doesn't really move vs my M5s that bend a little bit. The leg channel was pretty comfortable and felt nice and sturdy when going down.

I will say the shadows did feel like they "stuck" a little bit when sliding and was more noticeable when the ice got chewed up. The ice at my rink isn't the best and there are so many factors that play into sliding but one time i remember clearly is pushing out from the post to the top of the crease i slid halfway then kind of stuck and stopped.

Skating again tonight.

The Shadows will break in a little bit as well.

ya i figured everything is new and stiff. the rebounds are awesome on them took a shot and launched the rebound to the corner and halfway out of the zone up the boards.

The rebounds are such a fun part of Bauer pads.

There's probably one change I'd make to the Shadows and that would be to remove the internal calf bracket. Not enough for me to bother ordering Pro Custom though for.

Just gotta say I severely underestimated the Shadow stock graphic until @A.YOUNGoalie13 set me straight. Here's a recent musing I messed around with. Maybe it'll provide inspiration to someone with Senators colors. Don't forget the gold is metallic and really pops. The different shadowy designs in the black are awesome up close too. image.thumb.png.cb8eb1317b576ebd6c3805cc182db17d.png

The one thing I still don't understand is why I can't get silver on the outer parts of the shadow, yet I can In the inside areas... It's a fully printed pad. Glad I opted for trues over them.

That makes sense. How far and fast does Shadow send rebounds compared to similar pads for other manufacturers (Brian's Optik 3/4, Warrior G7, CCM Axis XF, True Hzrdous)?

Same comment, different product release cycle...

NO ONE IS CLOSER TO BAUER IN REBOUND VELOCITY.

Other pads can send a far rebound, like in distance. No one is close to Bauer in terms of exit velocity off the pad, they come off fast and are hard to handle. It's not even funny how stark the difference is.

Sliding by contrast, people are caught up with Bauer OD1N tech.

Isn't rebound distance determined solely by velocity? The mass of the puck ain't changin...

I should have said speed and not velocity, sorry

In terms of goalie pads

Distance - How far does it travel off the pad

Speed - How quickly it gets there.

Everyone has distance. Only Bauer has speed.

I mean I'm a chemist by training so certainly not an expert on physics, but i was legit stumped 🤣

I'm a Grade 12 Physics aficionado. That's the extent of my limited foray into the world of Physics.

I have lots of training stumping other scientists in field they're not proficient in. My wife is a Geo-Chemist and she's terrible at Biology.

I think he means that Bauer sends pucks fast and far off a rebound, others do send them farther than they used to but not as far or as fast. Velocity I guess is the thing that you notice over distance when the puck is sent into the corner off a pad. One of my kid's teammate's dad used to tell me that my kid's pads (Bauer) made a different sound than others in the league (generally CCM and Warrior).

I've heard from someone that Axis 2 was very good at rebounds as well, and so I can only assume that the newest Axis is similar if not better than their older version.

It most certainly  does. It has a very hefty boom sound.

I doubt anyone goes as far as Bauer either, but I haven't tested it and diminishing returns applies. Lots of pads today have enough distance to get pucks into the boards or out of the zone, which is all you need... Only Bauer can do it with speed.
