  1. Very excited to show this off. Coveted mask painted by Erich - Resurection Custom Painting in Oshawa. I gave him a mock up of what I wanted and he ran with it and killed it. Can’t wait to get back on the ice one of these days. May have to wear old mask during warm ups though 😂

  3. I had just come to the realization that I hadn't posted any pictures of my mask after getting it back from the painter in April, so here are a few.

  4. Enough talk... 😎 Finished my pad refurb job. Sanded, used watered down paint as dye multiple times on worn areas. Painted over. Silicone water-guard spray then Snoseal beeswax layer. Method courtesy of CooperGoalie on YouTube. And before shots

  5. I can't speak to the other manufacturers. In my mid 50's a whole new world of playing hockey opened up to me. The Local Seniors Hockey Club was a 55+ team. My gear was OK, mainly Vaughn from the mid 90's. I used this stuff for quite a few years. Like yourself I am a stand-up, double pad stacks sort of goalie. Admittedly, I have learned much from the play on your knees style of goaltending. Disclosure, I was born in 1949, been a goalie for most of those years. But I never had gear that fitted me and my style of play. John Brown was not real keen to make me a set of streamlined goalie p

  7. I frankensteined my chest protector a bit. Brian's subzero 2 chest, CCM Premier Pro arms and extra heart guard and there's part of a Simmons 996 beef up kit on the belly. So much cheaper than going out and buying a new one!

  9. *Disclaimer: I am not in any way, shape or form an equipment guru. I have, however, been repairing my equipment since I started playing in goal as a kid for reasons of curiosity and economy. I've taken apart and reconstructed more pads, blockers, gloves, C/As, etc. than I care to remember. As a result, I have made a handful of observations that I believe are pertinent to this discussion* Before I go on to why I believe this is happening, I also suggest putting a puck or a stick or something in the base of the palm and wrap tightly. Some gentle heat will move things along quicker, but you

  11. My mask all together now. Wrap done by JF Aumais and cage/hardware powder coated by TWJ poweder coating. On it are shots of my son and I, the department I belong too, and from probably the largest fire in my career (over 10 different fire halls from 8 different towns from all over Muskoka at it) On the back I have the national war memorial, Canadian fallen firefighters foundation and Sparky the fire dog, my sons favorite.

  15. My Protechsport mask arrived this past weekend and it looks/feels great right out of the box. For reference this is a Belfour style fiberglass + Kevlar mask with chin cup and black foam. I also picked up an extra black cage. Well worth the wait and you can't beat the service or cost. I thought my previous pro Eddy mask fit well but it does not compare. Huge thanks to Michel for all his help!

  16. After almost a year in Warrior GT2's I decided I wanted to go back to a stiffer pad. Given how much I loved my GT2s, selecting G5's for my next set was pretty much a no brainer. So far my initial impressions of the G5's are extremely positive and I can't wait for the opportunity to get on the ice in them and see how they perform. Specs: Pads: 35+2, Single break exterior (no break also available) X-Stiff thigh/knee core (medium stiffness also available) weave sliding area. Glove: 60 degree (75 + 90 degree available) single T (double available), Nylon lacing instead of skate l

  17. Not my gear but this is from Headstrong Grafx artist Jason Livery who painted my Ice Dragon mask. This looks awesome, in my opinion. Unique and clear and eye catching and simple (not cluttered) but technically challenging (he said this was very difficult to pull off). This color combination is just so conducive to to looking great together

  18. Forgot to post a recent update to the kit Late Christmas present. The Elliott pro returns were simply too big for my ridiculously low volume foot and grandparents were feeling generous. Hoping to make these last a long long time considering I’m not growing anymore.

  19. I finally udated piece on my setup that needed it the most. New leg pads just arrived. I know it's nothing special as they're senior model (S29) and not even from current model line but I bought them brand new super cheap. They will replace my good, old gray G2. And as a bonus I get Axis Pro stick. Also super cheap

  20. For the first time in ever, other than using decals and such, I got my mask redone with a full wrap by JF Aumais wrapping out of Quebec province. It's an ode to a man I met and had the pleasure to work with who helped me get into goalie coaching, Richard Sevigny. I plan to install a white cage on it to help blend with its pure simple beauty. My gift to me for this season (even if we're not playing 😁)

  26. Short story: I replaced the original nash palm in my Smith glove with nylon & velcro and added a Warrior replaceable palm. I originally got my custom Smith set in 2009 or 2010 I think. I still play with the catcher and blocker.. The pads I sold years ago unfortunately 😭 The blocker has been re-palmed once, but until this year I hadn't done much with the catcher. Just added some jenpro patches here and there and relaced the pocket a few times. The nash on the palm had gotten pretty beat up. Some holes and the smell was getting pretty bad.. Washing the glove didn't help. Starting

  28. I just may have recruited a new member to our ranks. My daughter's U-7 hockey skills program set up an exhibition game with another club, and asked if anybody wanted to play goalie. My daughter said yes right away! Gear was brand new, supplied by the club. Took the picture of her all dressed up before going onto the ice (Pro tip: always take a pic before they get on the ice, and are still smiling because they have no idea how hard it will be, or how badly it can go - lol!) It actually went really, really well! She might be a natural - and she certainly outshone her old man!

  32. I'm still working, but have taken the drying clothes off of the weights and treadmill. I miss hockey so much I bought enough synthetic ice to build a small crease to do movement drills on. I did 20 minutes yesterday and just about fell out of bed this morning. Sore is an understatement. I ordered more tiles to make it bigger. Oh, and I'm drinking a ton of beer

  34. My Sparx sharpener arrived yesterday! Since it was her idea (and she had an ice time last night), my wife's skates were the first ones to get sharpened. Kids got a kick out of watching it too! It's still a bit surreal... I can get our skates sharpened any time I want - and it's so easy to use. I'm blown away.
