  1. Tournament play went on as planned with no restrictions this weekend.  Full rosters.  Benches.  Box.  Open locker rooms.  Full contact during games.  The only thing they took away: no handshake line after games (which was weird since we all did usual celebrations after goals scored).  We did a stick salute instead.  It was awesome to get out there and eat up some live shots again.

The 20-day reply period for the Laums has passed.  Anyone know if they bothered to reply or put up a defense?  I still assume they just declare bankruptcy and skate on all of this.  I hope I’m wrong.

There is an ongoing investigation and a class action suit

Any civil action is a waste of time. Jeff will just declare bankruptcy and that’s the end of that.  What will stick is a criminal probe. I’m sure I’ll never get my money back, so I want to know that guy spends a little time in the poke for what he did.

@Max27 nailed it- they don’t need an outer break ‘cos they will be PLENTY flexible. Factory is on the opposite end of the spectrum and their pads flex a fair bit. That outer roll would have needed the outer break; since it is not there, no break needed. The outer roll makes quite the stiffness due to the extra material. That outer break actually makes an asymmetrical bend; the lack of outer roll most likely changes how the pad would play.

It’s the opposite of the trends of late with blockers on the legs.

I have been thinking more and more about possibly saving the dosh for Factory pads. I am actually pretty happy with what I have at the moment, as both have been chopped, diced and julienned to where I like them at the moment. For both sets I own, I STILL don’t have the money into them like it would cost for one pair of Factory. Not saying they are over-priced; just stating the fact they cost what they do! One man, small shoppe, no regular production pieces equals expensive, and it’s TOTALLY justifiable! Just don’t know that I’d spend that type of money if I would end up modding them further!

When I compared pricing, I didn’t think Dennis charged too much.  I got 100% custom pads for about 10% more than a nice set of Brian’s pads right off the showroom floor.  To me, that’s a good value.

The one piece sliding surface on the FM Protos may also help with power transfer and thus slide easier, though it may only be a marginal difference that would be much improved with a material like Primo.

Talked to Dennis a fair bit about sliding.  He uses a certain material to help with that.  Also, the single sliding surface helps with efficient use of power.  When I used his demo pads, I get like I could slide much better than with my Brian’s.

  6. I was really surprised how light the whole set was.  I picked up the box the set came in with one hand.  It was amazing.  I also did a demo test of a Proto set with no rolls.  I didn’t even notice they were gone.  What I did notice was better rebound control and no funky bounces from shots hitting the rolls on the fly.  That was great.  I’ll try to post some photos of these in action as soon as I get them on the ice.  Also, Dennis was great to work with.  He delivered my pads exactly when he said he would.

  7. They will either take everyone’s money and run (including my $146) or declare bankruptcy - and that will be that.  Taxes owed are immune from bankruptcy.  And fraud claims can also stop a bankruptcy.  But the odds of getting money or product any time soon seem bleak.

Wow. How the mighty have fallen. I wish I could see the Lying Laums FB page, but I am not rejoining FB just to read.

It makes me wonder how much truth was ever told by Jeff. We used to chat, but after I started chirping when stuff was taking longer than normal, that’s when our acquaintanceship died. I will never forget “three business days is not that long” when asking why I had not heard anything about the status of an “in-stock” item, in which I knew there was trouble and quit buying their products. Laura also told me to “adjust my attitude” as far as correspondence!  As we all know, three business days in the current retail climate may as well be an eternity! In light of this, I am happy as hell that I could not possibly get dragged down by him by remaining an acquaintance!

This is just a shitshow. And to think that he was considering to make me into a rep at one point; I am glad that I never had to try to live that down.

I wish I only had to wait 3 business days for anything. The last email I got from them was 5 weeks ago for an order I played in March 2018.  I just assume that’s never coming.

Even better, Laura promised in her last email that when my order is filled I’d get a coupon for a future purchase. It made me laugh.

  9. I filed a complaint with the BBB - along with many others.  I got a note back that said the Laums are not responding to any calls or letters from the BBB.  I understand there was a family issue, but stealing money from hundreds of customers is not the right way to handle your business.  I liked to buy from them because Jeff was a Marine, but this is not the honorable way to treat clients and customers.  Really terrible.
