  1. Had a loss last night 6-1. Hate losing. Start the game all positive and then it turns into a mfkn shitshow right after the opening faceoff. 2 were unlucky bullfk bounces, 2 were my screwups and 2 were just good play.

The scoring stopped after the start of the 2nd so I can at least feel good about almost 2 full periods. Especially the 3rd where I stopped everything.

Im on the sub list. I don't want to commit to a team so I think of it as being a local ebug 😄.  But I try my best for everybody that has me play for them. The team last night is in last place and I really wanted to help get a win for them.

Anyway good tips in the thread. And that other thread.

  2. It seems like stance and paddle length go hand in hand. I think there use to be some top taller goalies that used short paddles.  Ken Dryden was in the 23 24 range and he was 6'3" at least. When Johan Hedberg (not as tall) played down here his seemed short. Sorry I'm not really adding any useful information 😄

  3. had a Sweetwater after the game tonight and it tasted really good. But my go to beer is still the Bud Light Chelada 😋

  4. thanks coop, at first, I was thinking that there probably are more protective boots out there but then started thinking there might not be. Like you said it doesn't happen a whole lot. It could very well be just a vulnerable spot. Sooner or later, you will get dinged up tending. How bad is another story.

  5. I took a shot off the side of my skate the other night that didn't feel good. There is a slight bruise on my foot and some tenderness. Right when it happened it killed. I was hugging the post and the shooter was way to my right side. I guess he was trying to bank in the shot but it hit the side square on flush and rebounded out

My skates aren't the best but I really like them. 6092 Tacks with cowling. They're very comfortable. They seem stiff to me and don't flex too much with the squeeze test.

Just wondering are higher end skates more protective in the sides of the boot? Is a stiff boot all about ankle support or are they more protective? Thanks

The CCM version of those sticks were great too.

Loved those. CCM version. Remember buying one on a trip in Montreal. If I remember correctly it was black n gold.

Like the old logo more too.

Maybe off topic but still gear related IMO...

The Minnesota Wild should keep their retro Northstars jersey as their main jersey forever! There, I said it. Thank you.

Ha I was watching a little bit of that game the other night... love those colors but the team logo stinks imo which doesn't matter 🥴

  8. I use a pretty roomy red and white True bag no wheels. It's somewhere in another thread here, took a pic of it. Sometimes I wish I had wheels though.  After a game or practice I'm exhausted and carrying everything is almost like torture.

Found my old post. It was in the True thread from Aug 2019. This was it brand new. Still in great shape.  Not much to it. Zipper down the middle a couple of pockets inside. I like the vented top.

My buddy put it well this morning looking at Driedger's new helmet:  they look better when it's one big thing as opposed to many little things.

In other words, simple looks better than complex.

I've always liked simple team themed masks the best too.  Fuhr Brodeur etc.

So, thought I would give a post full winter season update.

As posted a while ago, I started playing full time back in September. So was 8 months back to full time play. I played recreational all winter and played in our corporate hockey tournament as well. 3 ski trips as well. Fernie, Nakiska, Norquay.

Still feel like 110%. Zero pain. Zero problems. Completely back to normal.

Full disclosure. I taught my kid how to pad slide, but I learned to play goal way before that was a thing, and can't pad slide to save my life, or more importantly to save a goal! Some of the senior hockey players in my summer hockey are stymied by my "old goalie" style. They are used to floppers always down on their knees for every shot.

And by senior hockey players, I mean some of the best amateurs around. In Canada after you are finished junior, AHL, ECHL, even NHL, senior hockey is where people go to play competitive hockey. You can play ASHL A, which means you play late at night to the echo of the puck and no fans. Or you play senior, as I did many years ago in my 20's, where you play in small towns outside the big cities and have 200-500 local fans in the stands, and sometimes you get to watch the fights in the stands..! Old time hockey! Small town hockey! An example is the Qu'Appelle Valley Highway Hockey League here in Saskatchewan.

Anyway, my point is, I do not know if a pad slider would experience problems due to the motions and mechanics of pad sliding. If you are a pad slider speak up.

Also, my boss at work knows 2 people that also had anterior hip replacements. She said they apparently both experienced significant pain and swelling. They were on pain relievers, anti-inflammatory's, swollen, had bruising, etc, etc. As previously described, I woke up with ZERO pain, ZERO swelling, ZERO problems. My boss says I am a unicorn.

I do point out the "gorgeous goalie body" my doctor had to deal with...! 😀 So just sharing there are other poorer outcomes after the surgery and not sure if my experience would be your experience...

I will also say I was pretty religious about my post surgery exercises my physio therapist gave me. Yes they do help.

Summer hockey has started again, and I am playing weekly as usual.

That is my update. Hope all my notes help some others through their surgery and recovery.

    Mark.

There are 2 drop-ins that I attend when I can get in. One has a lot of young guys who claim to be ... cough AAA ... and the other is a parents/coaches skate.

The parents/coaches one is so much better. They all actually try and most of them are really good.

  11. During warmups at a Thrasher game I went to one of the goalies on the visiting team lost an edge in the corner and went into the boards.

I don't know why I'm telling this .. I guess because when it happened I thought to myself " hey it happens to the best too" 😄
