I wish the 7.0 glove would have a permanent palm.

I personally love that I can wash the damn thing, and I can re-palm my blocker myself back to factory new.

    • shoe goo is better wont come off

I used shoe goo for the first time on a pad for a skate cut. I pushed some of that goop in the hole, and then placed a masking tape on top while it dried, can't even tell that it's cut unless you look real close.

  3. Had a skate with the G6 SR glove last night and I'm blown away at how well it catches. I had tried a G4 blocker/glove combo previously and had a lot of trouble with it (both the glove and the blocker). I think if I had the money I would get a custom G6.1/7.1 with removable palms.

Some said that my glove looked bigger (than my Hyperlite).

Not me, and not a goalie… but my buddy does photography as a hobby, and he came out to my kid’s last playoff game. Got a really cool one of him shooting (he missed the net - lol!)

I love it when coaches go "ya gotta hit the net", as if he wasn't trying to

  5. When you guys hold your glove, are the internals tight against your palm or is it floating so that your fingers don't move when you close down? I've asked a few guys and I'm getting mixed answers. I do the former because it's how I used to hold a baseball glove, but maybe the latter is better because there's no constant adjusting or movement?

Like tight on the palm like "<<" vs a claw like pinch "C<"

  6. My kid ended up winning the season which was nice. But the biggest win was being able to teach all of the kids the lesson in both winning and losing well, and also staying the course when things aren't going well in the game. This year was the hardest on me due to so many factors, but also the one with the highest highlight in how my kid behaved on the ice and off.

My son had a challenging year in the first half not getting as much ice time as he wanted, but he really took a big step just after Christmas break and actively improved what he needed to work on. It's house league and I have no delusions, but I loved watching his normally bubbly happy-go-lucky self disappear when the game starts and see eyes get so focused. He upset the top two team each twice in the playoffs and never let in more than one goal, afterwards as he skates off the ice the first thing he asks me is "Can we now talk about what I could have done to stop the one that got in?". I had to tell him to enjoy the win for at least a moment.

Every time I lost the fun this year, my kid found it for me and helped me see the bigger picture without realizing. Absolutely adore this guy.

  7. I use a Hyperlite glove currently and my hands are normal size, but I've always liked a tighter fitting glove if possible (for work gloves and for golf/batting glove). Lately I've formed a terrible habit of jamming the glove hand on my blocker hand to get the glove hand in as tight as possible before a danger scenario.

It doesn't help that the finger stalls also feel a bit slippery when sweat starts to accumulate. Is there an option to get that area more grippy other than to wear a glove underneath? I tried a golf glove, and it was okay, a bit more grip but I didn't like how bulky it felt and how hot it got. The Paddle wedge glove looks interesting but the fingers are missing from the place that I need it the most.

They didn't even mention the size and 99$ shipping!!?

Old day Ebay fuckery was to load up the Shipping and "handling" to make it seem like a deal, I guess it's still going on.

  9. I just bought some Kydex sheets for 25$, much more than enough for what I need. Once my kid's hockey finishes I will be able to diy a bit and I will report back.

My plan is to cut a strip, warm it up then lay it on the skate for it to form. Then apply some VHB double sided 3M tape to affix it.

  10. I'm getting some scrapes on the carbon fibre sidewall from touching the post, I saw this product https://www.instagram.com/theskateprotector/?hl=en which would address the exact issue, but it's also pretty expensive and looks like overkill. So I'm wondering if I should just put down some PPF film every month or if I should get something like https://www.amazon.ca/Plastics-2000-KYDEX-Sheet-0-080/dp/B077S5N6TP and place it on top.

I saw https://www.binnieshockey.com/shop-hockey-accessories/custom-ultra-shot-blockers from another thread I could cut just the bottom to make it fit the area that I want, but I don't think I can just buy them from the looks of it, I think they want a drop off of the skate which would not work and also I'm in Canada. Would someone be able to facilitate a US purchase?

All of this^^^  If you're actually seeing color build up rapidly you're probably spraying too heavily.  Also, using a good quality primer that matches that paint being applied over it and working in a dust free environment are equally crucial.   Good paintjobs cost a bunch because it's meticulous, time consuming and detail oriented work.  Great paintjobs require all of that plus experience and an artist's touch.   I've never even managed a mediocre paint job, and it's largely because I get impatient with the amount of detail work in the prep.

Edit:  I forgot to wish you luck.   You probably won't actually save money painting your mask, but it's worth trying at least once for the opportunity to learn.

    Painting is 80% prep.

    The 1.0 or the 3.0?

I went with a 3.0 as I was recovering from an injury, but I want to get a 1.0 as well eventually
