    I honestly think the old-school

bulletin board format of this and GSBB for some reason turns people away. The layout and usage is a bit archaic in regards to how the internet has evolved, however, I grew up on so many forums that utilized this style that using it is very intuitive.

You compare the ease of access, being able to read through

conversations, and the ability to share stories/images on here, then you compare it to the absolute dog shit of a mess that is a Facebook group names GGSU.

Hell, even the hockey goalie subreddit isn't good either.

There's just nothing like this type of site. (thus my over participation)

All of this. I know I don't post/contribute a whole lot, but I'm on here every damn day reading through posts and taking in the information. The biggest thing that the GSBB did for me was to start tinkering with modding gear. I removed leather straps, made my own elastic boot strap,  learned how to re-lace my glove...

I may not post much, but I definitely appreciate reading what you guys all share.

  2. For those in the Greater Toronto Area.... It appears as though Pro Hockey Life is using their Oakville location as a bit of a clearance center. They had a bunch of clearance gloves/blockers (most int/jr though), as well as a bunch of single older model C/A's. IIRC, they had a Brian's subzero 2, a Brians Gnetik, a CCM AB Pro, and a few others. They were marked down pretty significantly.

If anyone wants me to go back and get details of stock/sizes, let me know.

Here's my setup that I really appreciate.  It was cheap, it's light weight, customizable in terms of the compartment sizes, can close if needed (I never close it).  More than enough room for a full set of gear, extra gloves/mask, and all my  jerseys/socks etc.  I got if for under $50.  It lives in my laundry room in our basement and for 24 hours after I play I have a rotating fan in front of it.

I also have these shelves in our garage for older gear that I don't currently use.  They are also good for air drying.  I keep my bag on the bottom shelf in the garage and the rest of my gear that I use stays in the basement of our house.

Seagoal, do you know where you got that unit? I can't seem to find anything like it that would fit the bill.

  4. MAF has always been one of my favourites. He was probably the most well-liked guy on that team... hell he's one of the most well-liked guys in the whole league, and they trade him away without even telling him. Just brutal.

  5. So for basically the same price (a 1st and a 2nd), Philly got Ristolainen while Vancouver got OEL, Garland, AND dumped a bunch of salary? Yes pelase Vancouver.

Only downfall is the long term money to OEL.... They have 18.8 mil in cap space and still need to sign Petterson/Hughes, plus others.

New V9 Pro Carbon gear in the house.  Ordered April 6th, arrived June 17th.  Through no fault of Vaughn there were a few snags in shipping with FedEx, but 9-10 weeks for new gear from Vaughn ain't too bad.  This is my...5th custom set from Vaughn and the quickest delivery that I remember.

My new team is called Skeletons Hockey Club, decked out in red/black/white.

My strategy for the new gear was mostly red, then black, then white.  I wanted to add some Quick Slide accents on the mitts to help match the pads better, which you can see below.  I am quite happy to report there was not one single error by Vaughn in the set.  Everything is exactly how I ordered it and perfect.  Here are some pics of the gear with all the specs:

    BLOCKER

-full carbon face, pro logos, extra backhand padding for a snugger fit.

Very happy with how it turned out.  It is VERY snug as as of right now, looking forward to it breaking in and loosening just a tad...but not much.  I can not stand floppy, loosey-goosey blockers.  I REALLY love the Quick Slide underneath the board. It makes me smile.

    GLOVE

-pro logos, leather strap/buckle wrist strap replaces the stock nylon slider strap, external velcro tabs in black to contrast the red background (this is stock the same color, I Iike contrast), pro palm

Glove looks and feels great and I REALLY like the T in Quick Slide giving it a little shine and contrast to the other nylon/jenpro reds.  It feels decent in terms of closure, not great, which is standard for Vaughn gloves.  180 degrees for 6 minutes in the oven and some hot water in the outer palm get these closing like a dream for me every time.

The leather strap inside was a bit long (as always) and I trimmed it down so that it doesn't curl up and interfere with the backhand padding.  Super easy little mod to make this more natural closing.

    PADS

-there is no stock size labeled on these, they are built to my legs but they are essentially a 34.5-35, no outer knee wing, no boot strap, soft boot, stiff thigh, pro logos

These are unreal.  I can't believe how they feel.  I was most anxious about ordering the stiff thigh, more than any other thing I ordered, but I am so. glad. I. did.  My VE8s got pretty soft over the past 3 years and on my left one in particular (I am a leaner) it was arcing torsionally on the thigh rise.  I don't mind softer pads, obviously as a lifelong Vaughn guy, but I wanted to push my self a bit into the more modern build with stiff thighs and I really like it so far.  They feel much, much firmer and stiffer than my VE8s, but nowhere close to Bauer Ultrasonic stiff.  Which is perfect for me.  I live sorta in the middle anyway and order a stiff Vaughn pad is where I belong. I of course immediately removed the toe lace and put on my Pro Laces that I have been sitting on for a while now.

All in all I am a happy goalie.  These were a very generous, loving 40th birthday present from my partner who was inspired by how excited I was with hockey returning and being on my new team this summer season.  I would have been fine with my baby/navy blue VE8 gear (I was for game 1 which we won 6-2 and I played great), but this just makes the whole thing pretty f'n sweet.  I am beyond impressed with this gear.  I have a tournament this weekend to look forward to before our next Skeletons game, so I will have a great opporunity to get this gear broken in and dialed in.

    Cheers everyone.

Oh, did I say just three games? Up to 6 in the next two weeks. Man I'm absolutely buzzing with excitement.

    Get me back out there.

Man I'm jealous... Ontario is still basically shut down (just opened stores and patios back up). It's pretty ridiculous. On the plus side, I've basically bought all new gear during this pandemic lol. Lots to get used to whenever i can actually get back out on the ice.
