  1. Hi All, Currently wearing a Sportmask Chin Cup but over the course of the game the chinstrap gets looser on my chin. My old helmet had a velcro closure which kept everything nice and secure but this one has a slider on it. Is there somewhere, that would ship to the US, where I can buy just the velcro chin strap or one with a thicker webbing to replace the one I currently have? The Sportmask chin cup feels fine and I'd like to stay with it over a chin sling - webbing width is 5/8" but the chin cup has room for something a bit wider.
  2. Hey everyone, just wanted to share a side by side of the Vaughn Velocity V9 glove I’ve been using and the V9 XP with the 70 degree break angle I just got in. I believe the V9 is around a 50 degree break angle and the stock V9 XP is a 60 degree angle. Haven’t worn the XP on the ice yet but it has felt really great wearing it around the house!
  3. Apologies if this one has been asked and answered before but does the glove’s T impact closure or is it more personal preference? I’m looking at ordering one of the Vaughn V9 XPs with the 70 Degree break and the options are stock double T, SLR Single T, and 7000 Style Single T. Currently in a V9 with the double T.
  4. Hey All, Looking to get some advice on some damage on the calf wrap on one leg of my Vaughn V9s. Ordered them custom - arrived in April 2022 and I've been using them about 2 times a week since then. I wear my calf strap and RRC pretty tight and a few games ago I suddenly felt my right pad very loose on the leg. I retightened all the straps but it seemed very off. After the game I noticed that the stitches had popped at the top of the outer calf wrap and it no longer felt as tight to the core of the pad as the other pad does. I've redone my strapping to be tighter to compensate but in the last game I felt like it separated a little further. Has anyone dealt with this/have any idea if this is a major repair? I've seen a few posts from folks like hockeyshopofhorrors on IG who seem to do this kind of work. Thanks!
  5. I've actually been thinking of adjusting the strap on my V9s. Mine came on the middle setting and it falls in between the middle of my calf and the back of my knee. I wear it tight but it seems to slip up towards my knee and become loose relatively often so I might move it to the high setting so it gets strapped to a thinner part of my leg and has less chance to slip
  6. I am right on the 7” hand length line. Wore the intermediate liners on the Warrior senior G4 gloves which I liked. Currently in custom Vaughn V9s (intermediate internals in senior gloves)…the glove feels pretty good but the blocker is a little too tight for my liking. a lot is personal preference - I believe the stock CCM gloves have super deep finger stalls where other brands are more manageable. Def worth trying different gloves on.
  7. Not a tech thing but I’d love to see a 580 style/90 degree break be available. I love my V9s but the closure just doesn’t feel natural to me. A 90 degree glove option would be enough to get me to upgrade to V10s
  8. All of games are way past pro-shop hours so the thought of being on ice down a blade sits in the back of my mind and is pushing me to get a second set *just* in case. I don't think I need step-steel or bladetech of anything fancy, just steel.
  9. Thanks All! I think you’ve gotten me over my fear of breaking a blade on the ice. I’ve only seen it happen to a player once and never to a goalie. thanks for the tip @jerd31 on the screw. I’ll take a look at mine tomorrow but I remember it feeling flimsy the few times I’ve taken my blades out. Now I need to talk myself out of getting a second set of blades to experiment with profiling
  10. Looking to get thoughts from the group on if having an extra set of skate blades in your bag is necessary. My concern is more around blades breaking than performance/edges etc. I’ve never broken a blade before but I cringe every time I hit the post. Currently in CCM FT480s with the stock XSG1 blades after a decade+ in Bauer Reactor 1000s
  11. I got inspired by reading about the Max Rebound option that CCM is offering for the Eflex 5s. I goofed up and selected stiff boot thinking I would get that effect but I need to call Vaughn and try and fix it before it is too late.
  12. Thanks all for taking the time to respond! @Chenner29 I last wore the V3s regularly in the early 2010s after a 8 year gap of playing I switched to the GTs pretty soon after I started playing again in 2019 so they are just the last set that I remember fitting well but I don't remember . In the GTs, I felt like I was swimming in the leg channel and never felt fully comfortable in them. The feel and connection is what I want most with the pads and that is what I got with the V9s. My goal of hot rebounds was nothing more than trying to buy myself some time to reset for a second (and third) shot when the puck doesn't get cleared out after the first shot. @AdamL and @seagoal I actually read both of your threads and watched Louis' video while doing my research so thank you both for the super helpful threads. I'm definitely going to switch to the tie-on toe bar. I'm currently using Halo Hockey toe ties and have used Kenesky before. I've also heard great things about the Pro Laces so I'll have to check those out. I pulled this graphic off of GoaliesPlus.com. Most of my leg pad saves are in the area i circled in blue so I figured adding stiffness there would help me with rebounds. Is the boot stiffness all the section circled in blue or is it just the part I circled in red? If it is just the part in red then I think I will definitely go back to the stock stiffness.
  13. Hi All, I ordered my first set of custom pads recently and have had plenty of time to debate the selections I've made. I had questions for the group on what to expect for two parts of the leg pads. Wore Vaughn V3s before taking a long layoff, now in Warrior GTs and I am in not in love with how they feel on my legs so moving back to Vaughn. The first is about boot stiffness - I went with a stiff boot (stock top). My main thought in getting the stiff boot was that the stiff core would help push rebounds out further if I get hit below the knee. Is this realistic or am I just adding weight with no appreciable benefit? I play a very reactive/hybrid style so I'm wondering how else the stiffer boot could affect me. The second, and less consequential, is the toe ties. I went with the stock bungee toe straps but the feedback on goaliemonkey and puregoalie isn't great. does anyone have any feedback on these? Thanks in advance!
