  1. WTF with these ads? I’m tired of seeing a disgusting dead rat ad. Reported it countless times. And yes, @Lucky Pucker the ads invade the content all the time. This site is definitely not designed to be viewed on a phone. I’m sure I’ll get the, “works fine for me response” now.
  2. I ended up watching the whole video. Weird how the conferences were set up. I guess they’re always changing the alignment of teams.
  3. I’m guessing this thread is one of the only places banning this is even being considered. Seriously, don’t allow the goal and this won’t be a problem. It’s a skill using your stick on the puck and it’s below the crossbar. Figure out how to stop it. We’re living in an era when goaltending and offense are at extreme levels. The defending in our era sucks. Maybe something like this will actually force players to use body contact on plays around the goal instead of reaching for the puck with their stick or trying to block shots.
  4. Damn, this thread got good all of a sudden. I can hear the sound of the players getting hit in my head. “Ooh-ughh”
  5. Quoting myself so I can add pictures and more content. Boddam Blaze pads I used at the end of high school and through college. They were my first brand new pads. I played well in them, but they were just too small by the time I was fully grown. Using them here in adult league. Woman by my feet is my girlfriend still to this day. Got the original Vaughn Velocity pads as my second brand new set. This photo was playing for a adult league team that travelled to Vegas for a tournament. Incidentally, the guy kneeling next to me has a son now in the Red Wings organization, Robert Mastrosimone. He played at Shattuck St. Mary's, for Chicago Steel in the USHL and is now at Boston University. He was probably two or three when this picture was taken. Although I played well in the Velocity pads, I did have some difficulty with them that led me to try out some more traditional pads while still holding on to the Velocities. First the aforementioned Brodeur Heaton's. Look at how new they look. Should've kept them! As you can see by all the awesome technology behind me, this is an old picture. Then the Vaughn XP's (More like a 6000 line). I forgot I had the gloves, too. Should've kept these, too. Just had to figure out the toe-ties. Only picture I could find was this damaged polaroid. I bought and sold plenty of other gear, some I probably don't even remember. Now I am rotating between two sets I've had for seven plus years.
  6. I think you measured in both pounds and kg just so you could show off both sides of your mask. I’m on to you.
  7. It’s funny how in those days the lower end model had heat transfer logos while the pro had rubber and stitched logos. Today it would be sold as a weight reduction advantage to use heat transfer and they’d charge double.
  8. Seeing this setup makes me want to see you play. Any Billington or Moog in your play?
  9. Before I joined GSBB, I got my fix of goalie gear simply by surfing eBay. I bought so much gear in the mid-2000s because of it. I did sell most of it after I tried it for a while. Two sets of leg pads I bought during that period I now regret selling. Heaton Brodeur-series pads that were nearly new. I sold them because they didn’t match the colors of my gloves (idiot!). I played well in them in the limited time I had them. The other set was a Vaughn set that was similar to the 6000 series although I think they were officially XPs. Different from the XPs that later came out and were cheaper versions of the Velocity. I never got these pads dialed in right. I know now that it was likely due to the toe-tie situation and had I known about all the knowledge available to me on the GSBB, I likely would have figured out how to make them work. Interestingly, since joining GSBB and now here, I buy less gear because I have the knowledge of what will work best for me.
  10. How does this work? Ever since you posted this link, I clicked and have been attempting to browse, but it seems limited. I can’t sign in and I can’t search. It seems to be stuck in 2012. Or is it limited for me since I’m viewing on a phone?
  11. Ever since they switched away from the Patrick Division and Adams Division in the Wales Conference and the Norris Division and the Smythe Division in the Campbell Conference, I haven’t been able to retain any of the bland, nondescript names of Divisions and Conferences. At least they were doing one through eight in the conference for playoffs for a while afterwards. Of course, they did away with that and now have an overly-confusing, convoluted system that no one either understands or cares about.
  12. How about split the difference? Pinkeyes
  13. So I’m wondering if the people on here are opposed to this type of goal mainly because you feel it’s a rules violation, you’re concerned about safety.... or you think it’s a douche move. It makes me think about the goal Peter Forsberg scored in the shootout in the Olympics all those years ago. Everyone tried that goal and continues to to this day. I wouldn’t be surprised if every single member on this board has been scored on this way, if not in a game at least in a practice or drop in. That move conjures up feelings if douchey-ness. But it’s a way to use deception to score, so it’s considered fair. I maintain as long as there’s no safety issue it should be allowed. Honestly, I long for a day when players actually play defense instead of sweeping at the puck and dropping to a knee to block a shot. FOR GOD’S SAKE, hit someone! No one uses body contact in scoring areas or anywhere near their goal. The reason “The Michigan” hasn’t worked for so many years is because players actually used to hit attackers when they were near the goal with the puck. Now the only hitting that occurs is along the boards.
  14. Realistically, I don’t think anyone either inside the hockey world or outside the hockey world wants to hear goalie’s complaints about anything. The only complaint I can see being fair is the danger to the goalie’s head and eyes. The puck hitting the head isn’t the problem, that can happen from any shot. It’s more about the stick slamming against the head or the stick blade going into the eye openings. That has to be the main topic presented if this is to be banned. As far as defending against it, it’s just another form of attack that a goalie needs to be aware of and would need to adapt to.
  15. This thread has the distinctive aroma of, “Get off my lawn!”
  16. Check out “VINTAGE GOALIE EQUIPMENT” group on Facebook. They buy and sell older stuff on there.
  17. There are curling stones behind the glass on one end of the rink. Don’t know how much curling happens there, though. There is a curling facility a few miles north of the campus. Just drove by it a few times, never been inside. Good to hear he’s still making equipment. How’s his communication? Wasn’t the best in that department back when I dealt with him. I definitely use my sticks until they are fully dead. Right now they are mostly dead. They don’t have great whip for shooting anymore.
