  1. Ullmark looks lumbering in his movement. Lehner is kind of like that. They look like beer leaguers. They’re effective, though.
  2. Would be great if he gets on the right track this year and is more consistent. He clearly has the ability, just hasn’t been consistent enough historically.
  3. So are any NHLers wearing small manufacturer’s C/As anymore? Kenesky, Brown, Passau, other? Or is it all CCM, Bauer, Vaughn and what, one Brian’s?
  4. Has anyone else noticed the frequency with which most goaltenders rest on their blocker-side knee? They also seem to get up with their glove-side leg after the whistle. It seems very asymmetrical. I wonder if some of these guys will have hip issues on that blocker-side leg in the future. Hip issues seem to be more prevalent nowadays anyway and at a younger age than before. I wonder if this type of habit will exacerbate it.
  5. Have we considered the traditional skate-save/stick-save combination to generate the power to get the puck to the corner? If it’s a slow shot you would have time to alter your technique. This might be especially helpful if another opponent is driving the net expecting the sloppy rebound.
  6. I mourn the loss of the days when we had more variety in the gear (manufacturers) that was worn. Now it’s mostly True and Bauer, and a little bit of Vaughn and CCM. Brian’s is barely hanging on.
  7. This was my initial reaction, too.
  8. Meanwhile, the women in college and pro have great style in their gear.
  9. I was fortunate enough to win a championship before leaving town. This is from our advanced division. I’m in town until the 30th and then I move to Nashville. Just for reference, I’m 5’10”. Two of my defensemen are standing either side of me and are giants.
  10. I’m going to use it to cover some wear spots on my all-black pads. I was advised to go weave because it’s thicker.
  11. Looking for black weave Pad Wrap or PadSkinz. Apparently, black weave is no longer available from the distributor, so if anyone has any left over, I’d be interested.
  12. Honestly, I can’t believe you do that type of skate to begin with. 90 minutes is tiring in the best of circumstances. And since it’s an “All offense” skate, it’s certainly not the best of circumstances. If you could get involved in an regular organized group where there’s a gatekeeper so to speak who decides who can and cannot play and guarantees two goalies and relatively even teams, that’d likely be more enjoyable. If you have an option like that, you should take it and this guy can go F himself. Honestly, they don’t deserve you. They’re going to regret it.
  13. We drove over to Nashville Sunday night and stayed over in a hotel. Monday we got out to look at six rental houses. Two of them were pretty nice and we applied to rent them. We were looking in Murfreesboro, Smyrna and Antioch. We visited the Antioch Ford Center Rink. The yellow is indeed ever-present in the facility.
  14. So we're moving again. I spent 14 years in West Hartford, CT. But in 2019 we moved to Toledo, Ohio. Then in 2020 we come down to Memphis, Tennessee. Now we're off the Nashville, which is only three hours away. This is all down to my significant other's work. Are there any members from the Nashville area? If so, what are good towns to live in? What are the good rinks for adult league hockey? Any advice would be appreciated. We may head over next week to look at rental houses. Oh to be a vagabond.
  15. Honestly, it would’ve been wild if he said he rotates through wives but has one set of gear.
  16. @Fullright In watching your goPro videos, I’ve always felt you’re right in sticking with the traditional pads because of the way you play. I really think current pads would actually hinder your play style. I think there are far too many stand-up beer league goalies who mistakenly buy modern pads and it hurts their game.
  17. In recent years, I’m less comfortable switching between pads and gloves for games. I’m still plugging along in my ten year old Simmon’s 586 leg pads and Matrix gloves. Electric tape, replacement straps and Palmskinz all helping in that effort. I do have a set of bucky material pads and gloves made by Jeff Salvi that I bring out once or twice a season at a drop-in. I also have Heaton Pro90Z pads and Brian’s Thief/Airlight gloves. They never see ice. I really should give them a spin. Two chest and arms and pants. The bigger more robust Brown 2100CA and 2000PN I currently use in league games. The lighter more streamlined Vaughn Epic 8800 CA and pants I use at a over-35 skate. One mask, ProMasque. One throat guard, Maltese. One cup, gray Eagle double-cup. One set of knee pads, PAW. Skates Graf 750 also for the last ten years. On it’s second cowling. I have a pair of Bauer Supreme 7000 skates that I never use. I keep meaning to bring them to a stick and puck to see how they feel now. I was using CCM sticks, Premier P2.5. A True rep (They’re inexplicably based here in Memphis) gave me a Catalyst 9X stick. I’ve been using it for a while now. No way I’d spend that much on a stick myself. I splurged and put a Buttendz on it. Works well. I don’t have to worry about the significant other complaining about gear purchases. I’m my own governor in that regard because I’ve been only part-time employed in recent years. We’ve moved three times in five years and it’s hard to keep steady employment in those circumstances. Once I get steady employment full-time, I’ll consider new gear. My GF also has her guilty pleasure purchases. She plays defense and loves Eagle gloves which aren’t cheap. Also she hoards Tretorn sneakers.
  18. Don Simmons is still making their 586 series which is soft all around, even has torsional flex. I use them and have for ten years.
  19. Well shit, looks like @netminder was right, Canadian goalie holding the cup at the end.
