  1. Definitely get comfortable with regular skating before you aim for goalie specific stuff. It might be good to get some in-line skates and practice even more around the house or in the neighborhood. You can easily log more time like that compared to going to 1 hour ice sessions 1-2 times a week. Movements are generally the same, Ok except stopping, but anyway, should help you get on your way faster.

For goalie specific movements, you'll need to strap some pads on and find a place where you can practice movements on the ice somewhere. Or maybe see if you can find like a goalie clinic somewhere. Or find a team that is willing to take a goalie that is just learning his way.

    Good luck!

Thanks bro. I am always hard on myself. I guess I'm still expecting the call-up to the Habs :P . I do admit, although I relish the competitive stuff, shinny with regulars is more laid back and fun. Hope you're doing good out there yourself. Or you're living the dream through your boys at this point ;) lolll

Yea, I'm doing good, just ramping down the hockey a bit. My older son found a Div.3 team where's he's happy. He wants to aim for Div.2, but only if he can find something without all the drama and politics. My younger son stopped playing hockey a couple of years ago and took up kickboxing and bodybuilding. He can probably kick my ass by now, so I just let him do what he wants, LOL.

  4. Don't be so harsh on yourself, being square and getting lucky is what it's all about 😋  Yea, the lockdowns had bad physical (and mental) affects on alot of people. For our age (40-50 and up) it's alot harder to bounce back after en extended time off. I "retired" from competitive teams and just play with "fun" teams now. Hard getting back into it for sure, gotta put in some extra effort and just have fun and roll with it.

Yea, download the video and edit the highlights, otherwise way too long. Great save at 09:51 tho 🥳

Yea, you've only been back a year haha.

And you've nailed it. There's a team I've played for a few times that's on the younger side and that's at the next level up that I want to play.

Myself and their goalie are similar in skill levels (he's still better), but I have almost zero chance of usurping him as these guys played on the same team growing up for years. It's a nature of the beast of beer leagues haha.

I'm 50 years old, english is my native language, and I've never used the word "usurping" in my life. I'm not even sure how to pronounce it, or what it means. But I'm gonna see about working it into my daily vocabulary.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.... sorry if I ursurped anyone....

  6. I have G-netik 2's, and the leg channel strapping is pretty good. But the velcro toe-tie thing was too "stretchy" for me, I had to put skate laces on to keep the pads from wobbling around (I'm old skool tho, younger guys like that wobbly shit, so whatever floats your boat.) Also the velcro boot strap didn't work out well, as the velcro started peeling off after 1-2 seasons. Now I have to tape it every time I dress to keep it from falling off.

Man, I've been tempted to pull the trigger on some used Bauer Supreme gear. I want something stiffer than my GT2's.

Unfortunately I just bought a second place and have a kid on the way, so the responsible thing to do is to not buy more goalie gear.

But man am I ever tempted.

Posting this here is like an alcoholic walking into a bar and going "Hey guys, you know I really shouldn't drink today..."

  8. Nice set. I heard of JRZ, but didn't know the deal with them. Read up on their website a little, I remember they did something for/with Bauer, but seems they are 100% their own thing now. Price and quality looks good.

Regarding the colors, did you check on different computers? Sometimes depending on the monitor, etc. they can vary. Personally, I like the dark "Latvian red" you got there. If it doesn't match your jersey, then ask your team to make new jerseys, or find a new team ;)

Isn't that the whole point of the internet? To bring people together?

It's what brought your wife and I together.

Just be careful. Sometimes when you go to meet your internet friends behind 7-11 late at night, they turn out to be cops. Just sayin' ;)

Since we're discussing our friend Doug - I think it would be cool if we knew a little more about him. Here's his Linkedin bio:

Doug was an interesting dude to say the least. Funny - I never knew he was a hair stylist too. He always said he looked like Paul Stanley from KISS.

The post below stuck with me because it was so out of left-field...advertising his hair-styling and skate-sharpening business on the face of his pads. That's just so fucking.... Bunnyman ;) ...I was imagining him sharpening your blades and cutting you a mullet all in under 15min :D

I own a Cricut. Of course I am infamous for making Pooper gear with mine.

I suppose you could do anything that is in a Vector format. Now you can even use the Vector on an iPhone/iPad. I put funky stars on a SK2000 inspired clone, but admit that I haven’t gotten too far from advertising my hair and skate sharpening businesses on the face of my pads and converting my brand names to Pooper.

Man, I'm working from home today.  Sitting up at the bar in our kitchen.  A utility truck of some kind showed up outside my house in the middle of the intersection near the roundabout and started drilling, it seemed, into the ground.  All of a sudden the toilet on our main floor started bubbling and making roaring noises and spewing up water like a geyser or a fountain in this erratic pattern.  The water level was not rising, it was just like air was being projected through the pipes out of the toilet and sending up giant bubbles and causing it to project water into the air.  So damn weird, anyone have any idea what the heck was going on?

Nothing happened to the toilet downstairs in our basement.

Yea, we're past that, when it comes to buying stuff, we've moved on to a "don't ask, don't tell" policy

My wife sees all the goalie gear in our garage and asks why do I have so much crap. I can proudly tell her that this is just investing.

That ruse only works for a couple of years. When they see more gear accumulating and don't see any cash rolling in, they start asking questions, and the jig is up.

Good stuff. I’m also watching the DEL too, not on level with the swedes quite. But the passion is equally there. And hey Ho, Justin Pogge is my teams goalie! That made me laugh, he’s doing good tho!

I've been to a few DHL games, I'm not sure if they are really dedicated hockey fans tho. I think Germans also just like to go out, but they like to drink beer, bang drums, and sing loud songs while they do it ;)

Sport gear will always be a depreciating asset. There's the odd outlier where something actually increases in value, but that's more due to it's collection status over anything functional.

You may be able to turn the slightest of profit on acquiring broken gear and refurbishing it. But that would be something you'd do as a hobby just for the sake of fixing gear. I'd consider you lucky to break even for the cost of materials and the original acquisition of the gear.

Yea, this. Gear doesn't go up in value. Time goes by, new stuff comes out, technology and rules change, etc. If I sell some gear, even if not used, I feel lucky if I don't take too much of a hit on it. I don't even think making a profit on it would enter my mind.

There's alot of better things to invest in if you're looking to make money.

I’m a big time Rögle BK fan of the SHL, watched a game last night as it’s the playoffs. The crowd was so pumped, full capacity and behind the team 100%. So much more atmospheric than the NHL is, or until it’s at least round 2 of the playoffs at least.

In Europe, hockey is less "commercialized" and you get more true fans at the games (altho less of them) compared to NHL. I've been to quite a few NHL games and seen many people in the stands who barely know anything about the game or the team. For them going to a game is just going out, or something to do, etc.

The Swedish league is really good quality too, best in Europe IMO. I was watching some games here and there this season, until Russia attacked Ukraine, then I lost half my channels (I had a Ukrainian satellite TV package). So now I'm just watching the Swiss league again, which is OK, but nowhere near the Swedes. The Ukranian league was fun to watch too because it was about the level I used to play, about Swiss 3.Liga or so, and hardly any fans, LOL.

  17. Just rock the other dude's name :headbang: who cares. Not like the chicks in the crowd are gonna see it. Well, unless the ESPN camera zooms in on it.

Reminds me when my grandfather died, we got a good deal on a tombstone with someone elses name on it. My grandmother used to hang the magnets on her fridge with the family portraits that came with the magnet. It's all good.

  18. I bought like 30 Montreal sticks from GM when they were on clearance for $30. I think I'm good for a while. I had one break when I got checked hard behind the net playing the puck, otherwise I just retire 1 or two a year when they start getting too soggy.

My kid uses Warrior composites, they get worn on the bottom after a while, but they don't break.

I had a customer who requested my photography services here in Montréal, Qc for a private action photoshoot.

He just had his new gear from Lefevre to match his team colors. Very nice kit here.

Here are a few photos. (Has to shoot through the glass. Click on photo for better resolution)
