  1. I used Pantskinz about 10 years ago and it is still holding up. I had to superglue one corner as it would curl up but other than that it has been good.
  2. I hit the big 4-0 last week. Celebrated in Bellingham with some of my wife's family. In October my wife threw me a surprise party. It was really a surprise since my birthday is in February.
  3. Hello @Snowman30, Thank you for the suggestion. I have been looking between Pharaoh, Goalie Parts and Resilient. The Pharaoh seemed to fit my price range and needs the best at the moment. Although as we all know anything could change. If there are other options that would be worth considering, I am always listening.
  4. Thank you for the response. Sounds like it would be a good purchase.
  5. Does anyone have experience with this company? I am thinking of using this foam to refurbish my mask but have never heard of this company before. Any help is greatly appreciated. https://pharaohgoaltending.com/products/new-phoam-pro-replacement-foam-kit
  6. I second @dreadlocked1, I am on my second and have not had an issue with either of them. If I remember correctly, I have had my Reiterspec one for close on 15 years or so. My previous one I wore for at least 10 years before upgrading. Also, I think that Eco Pro Foam is who took over from Maltese and I think it is Roughneck in Canada. https://passauhockey.com/en/product-category/roughneck-protection/ Hope this helps you.
  7. The best I could find. https://www.nhl.com/news/darcy-kuemper-pays-homage-to-olaf-kolzig-on-washington-capitals-reverse-retro-night/c-337262272
  8. @RichMan I have been using my Rocket Dryer for the last 3-4 years and have not found any crusty or stiff equipment using it. However, I also clean my equipment at season's end to make sure that any crud buildup has been dealt with. Also, usually before each drying, I spray it with a blend of essential oils and water which cuts down on stank, crustiness and any associated stiffness. In doing all of this I have never had any ill effects.
  9. Not a deep dark secret but my first name and the jersey number that I tend to favour.
  10. Personally, if the team was buying my equipment for me I would make sure it was in their colours. If I am supplying the funds, than I am getting the colours I like and not caring what anyone else says. I also fall into the category of purchasing used equipment when it comes time for replacement and as such it is what colours can I find in the equipment that I am replacing.
  11. Hey, Which model is this mask? I also have an Otny and have not had a moment's issue with it. I may need to replace the foam but that's about it. I got a spare cage when I bought it but so far have not needed it. I am wondering if the materials in the mask are different from the one I have.
  12. We had our first ice time this Thursday. It was interesting. We had to start getting ready in the parking lot, no bags are allowed in the rink. Once inside, skaters would put on their skates, gloves and helmet while goalies pretty much put on everything past the pants. That was definitely a different experience for sure. It would have been nice to at least have 10 chairs in the lobby but as it is a small entry space I can understand why this did not happen. We were only allowed 2 goalies and 8 skaters which made for a lot of ice time for everyone. Once we hit the ice it was mostly a stick & puck type of event. We were not allowed to play a proper game or scrimmage. It was just shots on net with both goalies just trying not to pull our groins. After our ice time was over we had to remove our gear in the entry way again, down to our skates and then finish up in the parking lot. There were no showers, just a bunch of sweaty guys removing gear down to skates and then rushing outside to beat the clock. No surgical type masks were required but we were advised that there was to be distance between us. As this is a private training rink and they are trying to not get shut down again we were doing our best to follow all of the rules. We will see if the rules relax a little as it sounds like the city run rinks will start opening in the next couple of weeks. Keep safe everyone! I also respect the decisions that must be made in each individual's circumstance.
  13. I received a text from the administrator of my team. I got invited to a summer team or at least a shinny session. Only thing is I will need to wait until the rink opens up. It will be interesting to see how this will look. I am still hoping that everything will be all cleared up by September/October and we can resume our regularly scheduled ice times. To anyone currently on ice, stay safe and to those chomping at the bit to be back, also stay safe and keep limber.
  14. Thank you for that information. I was not aware that burning the ends would not accomplish anything.
  15. Hey @SaveByRichter35, Thank you for the reply. Yeah I was looking at those but wonder if it would be the same grade of elastic strap. The Pro's Choice may be an option. The problem that I will likely always have is the attachment to the backplate. Pretty much any straps I get will need to be cut and have a small hole to accommodate the attachment to the backplate. I don't know of too many companies out there making straps in this configuration.
  16. Hey all, My Otny needed new straps as the originals lost the majority of their stretch. This was mostly because of age. For Christmas my wife bought me some new straps from Goalieparts and after my last ice time one of them had unraveled pretty bad. I may be able to make it usable by cutting and burning the ends but they seem much thinner than the originals. My question is, who makes the best replacement straps? I am completely willing to buy a set and cut them to the proper length. I just want a set that seem like they will last a good while. I am holding out hope that these will still last but they do not seem like they will last very long.
  17. @MangoRhinehart Wow! That Lord of the Rings mask looks awesome. The Shining mask looks cool as well but the Lord of the Rings just looks amazing. There was a junior goalie near my town when I was a teen who had the Balrog on his mask. I always thought it was amazing.

    Vaughn V9

@A.YOUNGoalie13 Just about every Vaughn glove I have used has suffered from finger curl. I have used Velocity, Epic, V3, 7990 & my current Vaughn pro custom glove based off a V5 or 6. The worst of these by far was my Epic. One thing about it though, there was never the worry that the puck would drop out if you caught it.
  19. For Christmas my wife bought a Potvin kit from Leblanc Designs. I love this kit. It's the first time I have attempted to vinyl a mask so there are some rough areas but overall I am really happy with how it turned out.
  20. I am 6'3" and currently I am using 26" Warrior Abyss sticks. My last stick prior to that was a Warrior Swagger Kiprusoff which was 26". I have in reserve two Warrior Swagger heel curve sticks that are 25" which I will see if I like or not. The last team I played on the other goalie was probably 5'8" or 5'9" and used a 27" paddle on his sticks. He was always trying to convince me that I needed a longer paddle on my sticks.

    Team Pics

Found some old pictures First is a Pre-2000 from a tournament in Edmonton, AB. Second is from my ball-hockey team after we won the championship. Not sure where any other picture I have is. I was in a Senior team picture but was never given a copy of it.
  22. I had a guy a couple of years ago agree to buy a glove from me. We were right up to the point of having it packaged and preparing to ship. Then he fell off the face of the planet. No excuses or anything, just stopped responding. At least I wasn't out anything but I was pretty upset that I got roped along and in the end didn't end up selling it. For the most part I have had fairly good luck selling and buying things online and through Kijiji and Facebook marketplace. There are always those people out there looking to turn a quick buck or just mess with another person for pure enjoyment though. The old adage of buyer beware has never been so prevalent.

    Warrior sizing

@cwarnar Thank you for all your help. I definitely appreciate it. Like I said I am hoping with the new season starting up soon that the retailers will start bringing in the new equipment soon so I could try on a 36". I am highly aware it will sit higher on my leg I was just worried about the 35" and sitting almost perfectly on the edge of the landing pad without skates anchoring the pad to my foot or a boot strap moving the pad down. I really liked the stiffness and would love to try out some on ice if at all possible. When the time comes to seriously look at getting a new pair I will be sure and drop @TGC-Rance a line to see what we can work out.

    Warrior sizing

So I just measured out my shin and depending on where I stop the measurement I would be between 21.5 to 22 inches for floor to knee. Then adding 11 inches above my knee I get 37+1.5 or 38+1. I guess I really need to find somewhere with a 36" pad to try as I am pretty sure none of the stores around here will stock either of those sizes.
