  1. Thank you for the pic, this is helpful. I didn't use an adhesion promoter so perhaps I will look to use this on my next try. Your corners look really clean did you use relief cuts or just stretch it out over the knee block? Sorry I should have tagged you when I name dropped you lol. I forgot because I had just read the process you followed as opposed to communicating directly with you about it. I did wrap the PPF around the knee block and adhered it to the backside so that there are no exposed edges. I have Passau pads and the back of the knee block is primarily jennpro but there is about an inch long portion towards where the knee block connects to the pad that there is limited jennpro on the back and instead is nylon. In this area the PPF wraps around the edge of the knee block but not as far on to the backside as the rest of the knee block since it didn't adhere to the nylon. I used a vivid PPF I purchased off of Amazon. I am looking at ordering some 3m to give it a try in hopes of better results. When you completed the relief cuts which portion did you wrap over the other? Not sure if this makes sense the way I am asking but did you pull the larger side from the top down or from the side up?
  2. How much of the film do you wrap to the backside of the knee block? I have tried the ppf twice using Chenner's application method but each time the film ended up shredded after one game. I guess it is lifting during game play and being torn somehow. Perhaps when it lifts it sticks to itself and the force tears it or the ridges and divots of our poorly zambonied ice causes the tears? Not sure exactly what happens but it looks like an angry racooon disapproved of the game play advantage the ppf was providing me and did a Kay Whitmore gear check and denial on my specs.
  3. Thanks for sending this along, I am going to apply this to my skates right now. I wish I would have thought of this earlier as my skates have already taken a beating this beer league season. But o well at least it will stop further damage to the boot.
  4. I have the tf7 skates so it's fiberglass as opposed to carbon fiber but mine are getting pretty beat up from the posts along the outside of the boot and on the back. I have only been using them for 15 games or so but they look much worse then my previous bauer and ccm pairs that I wore for years. Do you have any pics of your mod? I was thinking of adding the ppf around the whole boot but thought it may be difficult to get good application around the curvature of the skate. I thought about putting a strip along the side as well as the back but worry about it peeling off from wear from pad rotation.
  5. I have the true tf7 which is their low end goalie skate but full fibreglass boot. I have taken a shot off the side and I felt it but not to the point of it being painful.
  6. Thank you much appreciated. I am pretty curious about trying these myself.
  7. @creasecollector I saw Merzlikins wear something similar in an older Bauer instagram post but from the position of the stripes on the sock it looked more like he cut off the bottom and then added elastic under the knee pad. But I could be wrong. I can't wear the knitted socks they make me too hot but I am happy you found something that works for you. @DALV1That makes sense. Do you have any pics of them on over your knee pads you could share? @jerd31I have never seen these before. How is the durability of the material? I like that they cover the full leg as well instead of just the knee. Do you have any pics of you wearing them? I am interested in trying these out but would like to see how they look first.
  8. @ArdeFIN I recently picked up a pair of old Reebok HPG pro pants from which I can tell are quite similar to the CCM HPG12 pants. Are these pants designed for the chesty to be untucked? I have previously tucked my P1 into my bauer pants but I haven't quite been able to dial in my comfort level of tucking my chestie into the Reebok pants. I feel the chestie moves up when I go down into my butterfly and it interferes with my mask and my ability to see pucks in close on the ice when I am trying to cover it. I also moved from a P1 to a Warrior G2 pro chestie so maybe it is the chestie and not the pants that is the issue. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
  9. What started as a mod strictly for aesthetic purposes turned into one which provided function as well as form. I like to wear socks over my knee pads but I never liked the bagginess of the socks from under the knee throughout the calf area. I figured as these socks were designed for players shinpads the extra fabric just felt sloppy in my opinion and I wasn't fond of the look. To do this mod I started by removing the velcro tab and cutting approx. 6 inches off the top of my sock. I then hemmed the top of the sock and re-attached the velcro tab (please excuse my poor sewing skills). As hockey socks are tapered, moving the bottom portion of the sock up to my knee area fit quite a bit tighter around my knee pads than the socks had previously fit before being shortened. This encased my knee pad and keeps everything feeling much more connected and stable. The elastic from the bottom of the sock was now also moved up directly below my knee so assisted in keeping the kneepad up where I wanted it. Attaching the velcro tab to my under armour baselayer pulls the sock tight to my thigh and in combination with the tension in the fabric and elastic directly under the knee provides a more connected and stable feeling in my knee pad than what I had previously experienced with my former sock set up. I have attached pictures below which display the new sock length side by side with a full length senior sock as well as a profile and portrait view of the sock over my knee pad ( I wear Bauer supreme knee pads for reference). I wear knee high cut proof socks with my skates so my calves aren't exposed or if you wear a full leg base layer it would also cover your calves. I have used this setup throughout my beer league season this year and feel that the on ice performance has been positive with no issues to date.
  10. Thanks I figured it must have been something.

    Out of touch?

I am a member on a number of gear selling pages on Facebook. Almost every pair of pads I see for sale today are advertised side by side reversed with the outer rolls on the inside. I am older and don't keep up on all the latest trends but I am wondering if this is something new or trendy to be doing??? Am I simply out of touch with the new way of doing things or is this a common coincendence of multiple people not knowing the way pads properly fit? Either way the grumpy old man in me doesn't like this new trend lol.
  12. I poked 2 holes through the back of my pants in a seam. I put in a rubber washer on the outside of the pants and ran a skate lace through the holes and tied it off on the backside. I could have probably just attached the suspenders to the skate lace on the inside of my pants. However, I fabricated this little jenpro tab to run the suspenders through because I also added a clip (as you can see in grey) that I attach my chest protector to as well. This allows me to tuck my jersey while wearing suspenders and having my chestie clipped to my pants. I am going on 3 seasons with this mod and I haven't ran into any issues so far. I initially tried attaching the suspender buttons to the inside of the pants as shown in the video above but I fell on my back and the button cut my back a bit so I removed it and did the current mod.
  13. I am really digging the fit of the body. It feels super solid and it looks like it gives me some more surface area than my P1. I am thinking of getting the G2 on the ice to try to work out the feel in the arms. However, first I am going to fiddle around a bit more at home to see if I can get it as close to comfortable as possible just in case I can't figure it out and I don't drop the resale value from new to slightly used. But I do feel like the body is the best I have used yet so I may try to swap the arms out if I can't get the fit right and go with another option. But I haven't looked into what a set of arms would cost so not sure if this is a feasible option or not. I haven't had a lot to compare it to as I have only been in a couple of units: -Vaughn pro LT90- I liked this unit. It was the first chestie I ever used but I bought it used at the end of it's life cycle so I didn't get a ton of time in it. -Vaughn SLR pro carbon- good mobility but I felt some shots in the arms and I don't play a very high level of beer league (mid-divisions). -Reebok P1 reissue- I liked everything about this chestie. I struggled to get the backplate totally dialed in but everything else fit well. Good mobility and no protection issues. I just wanted to try something new and got the G2 at a good deal but I am contemplating just sticking with the P1.
  14. I was able to get it somewhat close to as tight as I would like it but it does leave a lot of velcro exposed. There is only about 20% of the velcro tab attached and the rest hangs off which I worry will get caught up on my jersey or come undone during play. I may cut the elastic and reattach the buckle so that I am able to get it tighter with less of the velcro tab exposed.
  15. Did you get the straps tight enough with the stock strapping or did you need to mod it? I am 6'3 with a 6'5 arm span so the body fits great but I still feel the arms to be a tad long. Maybe it is just because I haven't dialed in the strapping yet to get it tight enough and the forearms are a bit beefier than my P1 so they seem to interfere with my gloves more. Perhaps when I figure it out they won't feel too long. I am coming from a P1 reissue that fits like a bespoke suit so it is definitely an adjustment for me. I was going to sell the P1 but not sure if I want to let it go now. I will tinker with the strapping but my concern is that my elbow is going to slip out of the elbow cups because it feels as if it is going to. The elbow cups on my P1 feel amazing but maybe I just need some time to get used to the G2. Did you mod the strapping or did you accomplish the fit with stock strapping?
  16. I just picked up a new G2 pro chest protector. I bought it from a fellow tendy who picked it up on clearance from goalie monkey and never used it. I love the feel of the unit so far but I am having a difficult time dialing in the mechanical arms. Not sure if they are too long but I typically wear an xl and the body is xl with large arms. I feel like the elastic used to dial in the fit on the arms is too long and since it is velcro instead of buckles I can't seem to get it tight enough for my liking. I don't want to mod the elastics to make them smaller until I have a better idea of how to get the best fit. Things feel floppy in the elbow area. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this unit or any advice for me in this regard? Thanks in advance for any input.
  17. Thanks for letting me know. I look forward to trying out these new products.
  18. I use the Aegis neckguard and am very happy with it so I am excited about these new products. I do have two questions: 1.} Will these be ready for the start of this upcoming season? 2.} I understand the concept behind having the D30 in impact areas such as the clavicle, ribs etc. However, as the foam hardens upon impact wouldn't that create a not so soft landing zone for the knee area or is the impact from the butterfly drop not enough to change this property in the foam?
  19. I purchased a pair of ccm 9380 skates before this past season of beer league after coming from an older pair of bauer one100 se for the past 5 seasons. I loved the feel of the new cowlingless skates in comparison to the old ones but after the season I noticed I developed the "bauer bumps" on the back of my heel. I am not sure if it is because I went from a pro level skate down to a mid level skate and there was a difference in materials and construction or if perhaps the skate just didn't fit my feet right. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced the pain of the bumps and had any recommendations on whether there is a skate out there that offers more padding/comfort for this type of ailment or if I should look at potentially getting my skates punched or purchase some gel pad inserts or bunga pads? Any recommendations are much appreciated, thanks in advance.
  20. This is sad to hear. His masks were wonderful. His customer service was amazing too. When I contacted him to weigh out options about getting a new mask he was prompt in his responses and super informative, taking time and putting thought into the many questions I had. I hope that the next step in his mask making journey is a positive one for him.
  21. Sorry I know I am super late on this thread. However, I am looking at upgrading my vaughn neckguard and have it narrowed down to the Aegis pro and Kova (with Kenesky as a wildcard darkhorse). As you have experience with both the Aegis and the Kova is there one you would recommend over the other? Thank you kindly.
  22. Just wanted to send some feedback on the mod. I am around 25 skates in and it has worked great for me. The way the clavicle protection on the neckguard was segmented it integrated well into the chestie and hasn't hindered my mobility whatsoever. I also haven't felt any shots to the collarbone area which I have heard can be an issue with the Reebok chest protectors as they seem to sit a little lower than other brands (or perhaps I just haven't dialed in the fit on mine yet). Either way I am happy with the mod and it has allowed me to keep using my Vaughn 7700 neckguard even though it is a pretty budget model. With this being said, I am going to look to get into a new neckguard but I will leave that discussion for one of the neckguard threads.
  23. Nice! I take it on the ice tonight for the first time so will post some feedback on how it worked for me.
  24. Thank you I changed the format so hopefully this works.
