  1. Any word on whether the G6 slide plates will fit the G3 pads? I've only seen confirmation they fit the G4/5/6, but haven't seen anything specifically saying they don't fit the G3.
  2. Hey, not sure if this is the right forum for this, but was wondering if there are any goalies local to Montreal who might be interested in playing Monday evenings in the west island? Not a full league, same group of guys each week (but games are quite competitive). Good caliber level game, we get the occasional high level ringer joining us. We lost our 2nd regular goalie quite suddenly, so we're looking for a replacement (even if it's just for a game or two) Hoping we don't have to rely on rent-a-goalie for the whole season.
  3. Yeah heat was the main issue I stopped using a padded shirt (well that and upgrading to a Passau Pro). Even before I was on the ice I felt like I was sweating. It was also a beast to try and take off after the game. Stuck to the body because of sweat, but because it's so ridged in spots it's impossible to peel off. I've always felt that these things are just too beefy for the most part. I really think they need to just supplement a CA, since most of the padding should be ideally already be underneath several layers of CA padding.
  4. Tried no boot strap this morning, and yeah felt good. Just in the warm up, pushing around my crease I was surprised at the increase in foot mobility (surprised mostly because I thought the ARS-straps already allowed for an impressive amount of mobility). With the G3/4's it's super easy to try out, don't even need to take the strap off. Just leave it on, with the clip attached, and have it run up over the top of your skate. More than enough slack on the band to make sure it's not pushing the pad up off your foot. Will still probably give it a couple games to see if I ultimately will keep the setup. But I'd say it's definitely worth it to try out.
  5. I moved the boot strap to behind the skate and was much happier with pad control and having the pad ride a little higher when down in the butterfly. Don't think I'd want to lose the strap entirely.
  6. Yeah, I'm very happy with the Pro Laces on my G3's. I've offset them as well, and have really found I'm having a much easier time pushing in and out of the B'Fly (though bumping up to Step Steel in my skates also probably helped)
  7. I've got one. Love it. The fit that Ron was able to get with just some pictures of my head was dead on. I actually went into the store to get them to custom fit the foam, but when I tried it on it already fit perfectly. Have had it for about 6 months now. Taken some pretty solid head shots over that time (though not a real cannon yet) and had no protection issues. I've seen some folks on GGSU have had some issue's with their orders. But overall my experience working with them was very smooth and I'm very happy with the result!
  8. I think another issue, specifically regarding NHL mask paint jobs, is that they are one of the primary pieces of marketing the NHL uses to promote goalies. Marketing players are often about showing off gear. Especially with goalies, and especially with the masks. As a young, impressionable goalie growing up around Toronto in the early 90's, Felix Potvin was a hero to me. And that mask was a huge piece in marketing Potvin, and definitely left an impression of "Wow, I want to be just like Felix Potvin when I grow up". I emulated Potvin's style, I got gear that looked as close to his stuff as possible. But the dream was to one day have the same mask as him. So once I was old enough to afford a custom paint job, of course the first thing I wanted to do was fulfill that childhood dream. I'm curious what (if any) arrangement there is with mask artists have with their designs being so heavily used in NHL marketing. Because for Potvin, I'd say that the mask design was much more iconic of his "brand" than the heavily tradmarked and protected Toronto Maple Leaf logo.
  9. Huh, very interesting setup @Kayen. I've got a pretty similar, adjustable shock cord at home, I might have to try that out
  10. Nah, I've got over 70+ skates in these over the past 4 months. They're pretty broken in by now. They feel great overall, it's literally just an extra inch of give I need. I know people have used key rings on the attachment ring on the pad, to provide some added length. But I don't like how that puts the plastic clip into a more vulnerable position to get hit with a puck.
  11. Has anyone switched out the elastic toe strap on the G3/GT's for pro-laces? I really like the elastic setup Warrior has, but I find I don't get enough slack with it. I was doing some edge work training on the weekend, and frequently found the boot of the pad interfering on the ice, because I couldn't get enough separation between the pad and my skate. Was thinking I might try to swap in some pro-laces to see if it makes any difference.
  12. I've got a Coveted Mask as well. 313 model. Really happy with it so far, though like most of my new gear that could largely be because it's such a huge jump over the much older gear it's replacing.
  13. Looks great. How's the shoulder padding feel up around your head/mask? Enough freedom to look around unobstructed? After several skates in my G3s, I finally tried out the suggestions to disconnect the sling wrap from the calf pad. I was hesitant to try, just because it seems like a superfluous change (and it bothers me ever so slightly that there is some slight "functionality" in the pad that isn't being made use of), but surprisingly I found that it really did make a noticeable difference. I'd be interested to learn more about the mechanics actually at work here, but I wouldn't have thought that such a minor attachment was activating the calf muscles so much. I've got 6 games over the next 5 days, so I'll be putting that endurance to the test this week. I've now got at least 30 skates in the G3's and I couldn't be happier with them. The whole marketing tagline "Elevate Your Game" couldn't be more appropriate, as my style has shifted quite a bit as I've become more accustomed to the pads and I think it's been a marked improvement. Really only thing I'd like is for the toe strap to have more adjustment, like the boot/heal strap. Just need an extra inch of slack on it for me.

I feel more the issue with the custom graphics is how difficult it is to role out to a customer base in any kind of functional/user friendly sort of way. It's way more complex, on a number of fronts, than what a typical customizer is. Reality is, the only way Bauer can be confident that they can produce what the customer wants requires them to have a pretty direct relationship with the customer, which is really difficult to scale out to everyone. Probably what they will have initially is a customizer, but instead of picking colours for pre-made colour zones, you're able to "stamp" colour zones onto the design with some pre-made shapes and patterns.
  15. Measurements were pretty spot on if I recall. But I was also able to go into the store to try on different sizes so I didn't rely too much on the chart. But overall I believe what I landed on was the sizing recommendation. I did go down a size from my Simmons UL6's. The Simmons i was a 36+2, but for the G3's I'm now in a 35+1.5.
