  1. I'd like to hear your input on the gear, especially the glove. Other than Matt's HR videos and the ones from Vachon on Youtube as well, not much is spread around on the internet.
  2. I'm happy to see all the input coming in. Clearly we beer leaguers are still concerned with our butterfly abilities, enough to work on it at least. For me, I can easily just have knee facing saves a la Giggy if squared to the shot. But in cases where I'm trying to control the ice space in accordance to my depth in cases of tips or deflections, a wider butterfly will be very useful. My pinball flipper technique helps me a lot but won't always save my ass, especially on quick releases. As for having a higher knee stack, I can see the logic in it but I do question how much space that takes away in the knee cradle and depending on the type/model of knee protectors you are wearing, but that is a non issue I guess with the pad models we've been seeing the past 2-3 years. I'm wondering if the toe ties factor as well. I have the Pro-Laces set-up.
  3. I hand wash my Maltese, this way I avoid material damage. Mine is maybe 10 or 15 years old now and still holding up. Despite what they are built for, you do have to be delicate with it when caring for.
  4. I've seen that video. Like many of her other stuff I try to apply what feels right for my hips tolerance. I'm also surely double (or more) your age and tissues aren't as loose or nimble as they once were
  5. I've done private coaching where I was either invited by a team in one of the hockey associations and asked to work with their goalie(s)for a session or more, and I also have worked 1 on 1 with an adult goalie whom rented his own ice time. I've never had to or was asked to get some kind of insurance. I have considered it for doing camps (multiple days and goalie groups) but simply trying to find a source that offers such a service was next to impossible. Of course, if I was working through/under an organization or minor hockey league club or provincial federation be it on Quebec or Ontario side, I'm assuming insurance is provided by said parties. I too got my certificate similar to your SafeSport through Hockey Canada, but for anything else directly related to the coaching of goalies, it seems like you have to jump through hoops and I never was able to get clear answers to how to get things rolling. I basically gave up on them. I figured that my 30+years of playing and my 10+ years of coaching is experience enough to justify the means. I get plenty of tips and information from well established professional coaches when I hit a bump in the road. I understand why Hockey Canada/U.S.A. are doing all that, to make sure kids aren't going through uncle Bob who maybe played 1 season when he was 12 back in the 60s-70s or team coaches that know dick about goaltending. God forbid kids today would go through the same self-learning curve we had to with zero coaches available when we were young. If you can get away with a simple liability waiver form, I'd give that a shot. If not, maybe try to get affiliated with a local organization or federation or even a goalie/hockey school. Good luck.
  6. This photo here is what just triggered this thread I'm creating... I know that most of you, as I, have dabbled with Maria Mountain's Butterfly challenge, and some of you have used it with success. I for one, not so much despite my efforts. Some of you are gifted with crazy hip rotation while some others are limited to some kind of hip impingement and are forced to wear truck sized bumpers on your knees and thighs for protection. Going back to the first picture above (I think it's Garret Sparks), I noticed that his pads aren't over sized (like things were in the early 2000s) and I noticed that his thighs aren't touching together, and I also noticed that his skates are pretty much toe down and not turned sideways like some goalies do, yet he has a reasonable good flare and manages to seal the 5 hole well with his pads. This led me to wonder if, natural physical attributes and/or limitations aside, if there is more to actual technique or maybe even gear than all the stretching and myofascia release you can do to improve your butterfly flare. Other than Maria's programs and tips, has anyone used other programs or formulas and have been able to see some progress and improvement, no matter how big or small? Please share
  7. J! I'm actually surprised you weren't already a member. Glad to see you here. Welcome to the BB
  8. Is it just me or are there not one Itech in there?
  9. I know. My forearm is still a little sore today. Maybe it's just a simple lack of conditioning at this point.
  10. My gen1 1X has the rounded loop already. Bought like that. Maybe it was a shop spec.
  11. Lolll no other symptoms. And yes, I would of felt a forearm shot. Didn't even get a shot off the stick. It was an odd experience for sure.
  12. This is an old thread and maybe not the right place I know, but I couldn't find the goalie sizing database thread whatsoever, so here goes. I have worn over the years, in modern type materials, many different brands of pads (Heaton, Simmons, Eagle, Vaughn, Smith, Bauer). For the most part they were either 36" or 35". My Smith pads I had were 36" and I am sure now that they were too tall even while broken in. Oddly enough the Vaughns I wore a good while ago were 36" V1s and they worked out well. Move on to my recent purchases, last year were my Bauer R6000s in 36". I thought my measurements made sense for the fit, but with time I noticed my knee kept falling too low on the landing, hence why they are now up for sale. A month ago I got my hands on some Bauer R9000s in 35". Here I'm thinking that the size should be spot on, right...not so much. Despite being one size smaller, I still see my knee falling off on the lower part of the lift. WTF!? Has Bauer changed their way of sizing their pads within that year of production? Is it just because I have to seriously break them in? Or have my shins shrunk a good 2" the past few years? And I thought just your spine shrunk with old age. My FTK is approximately 21" and my ATK is approximately 18.5". I wear my pads not snug nor too loose. I wear Bauer Vapor 1X knne pads. Am I just going mad or what?
  13. So I got to wear my "once-for-sale-not-sure-anymore-let-me-test-it-before" GT2 pro c/a yesterday during a drop-in practice. It felt bulky as I expected. Had serious issues trying to simply push my hair back to put on my mask. Even though my pants are XL, the c/a does take a lot of room in them. I also was annoyed that my mask would rub against the floaters whenever I looked down or around. Maybe I just need to make a few strapping adjustments and see. I have to admit that arm mobility is pretty good and protection is quite good. I didn't take any bombs but I doubt there should be an issue. The bulkiness compared to my TGC P1 is quite noticeable. One or 2 more skates before I make my decision.
  14. Question about the GT1 blocker. Yesterday during a drop-in practice, I experienced something weird with my blocker. Never has it done this but my hand and forearm got really really weak and tired. I thought I could attribute this to the stick weight but I doubt it. Maybe it's because of not seeing any action for a year, but I do exercise at home using my hands and arms regularly. This has never happened in my 2 seasons with the blocker. I just couldn't get a good solid grip on my stick. Anyone else experience this?
  15. It finally happened! I stepped on the ice yesterday, at a rink, fully suited up for a drop in skate practice kinda thing cause we are not supposed to play organized hockey right now HOLY PUCK am I not in playing condition! Never have I ever felt my age like I did for that 50 minute ice time. My legs were shot after 5 minutes. Had to take four 5 minute breaks just to get my energy back. I was the only goalie (no games remember?) and it was basically some run-and-gun type of drills and some shootout stuff. I didn't suck 100% but I didn't look like star material that's for sure. One year absence can really kill your beer league career lollll. And I was testing my new blades and pads and c/a (more of that discussion in the appropriate threads). The worst part of the whole experience was the covid rules, driving back home all sweaty and smelly. My soreness this morning is prevalent but I got more pain from carrying my gear bag to and from than the actual ice experience itself. Reconsidering my wheel bag next sessions.
  16. That I wouldn't be surprised. Few companies, regardless what product or industry rarely work with public feedback. Those that do have a better chance at producing something that will sell.
  17. Looking at the pics above some more, I can already see some slight issues and possible improvements I'd suggest to the Bauer designers...if I knew who they were and could get in touch with.
  18. I strongly agree with the catch glove. The glove insert is a much better idea than what Vaughn tried to do with their GX skates. Regardless I do feel that Warrior can afford 3 different glove breaks production or simply stick with one, the 75 break. It would still sell.
  19. Looks mostly cosmetic to me. If anything I hope they improved the durability material of the 1X model as well as making the landing inside more cushy for the knee cap. Speaking of the 1X, has anyone heated the front cap to be more curved instead of sticking out wide?
  20. If large companies would develop 1 model (youth, junior, intermediate, senior/pro) and simply offer different mods/specs, it would be less confusing and maybe easier to tailor the gear to your specific likes and needs. I feel like Warrior has already boarded that train, especially if the GT line is not being extended.
  21. So what exactly is the difference between the GSX and the Elite and the Vapor 3? Is it another SR G5, G5+, G5 Pro?
  22. take as many pics as they allow you
  23. RichMan

    glove angles

It sounds like going against nature lolll. Now I know. Thanks
  24. I like what I see. But why aren't the arms exposed?
