  1. Decided to go back to my Pro-Laces for tomorrow night's game. Tired of the torque on my right ankle. Will report later.
  2. Not 100% c/a related but still related regardless and pretty interesting. Came across this pic while searching for something else.
  3. @CPage same knee pads here
  4. Haven't worn sliding bridges since I sold my Smith pads 5 years ago or so. Not interested With my lack of hip internal rotation and my bad ankle from my work injury, my RVH is as crude as it gets and my current priority over post/toe integration is seeing the shot come at me from the point and not miss it completely lolll Friggin ageing So wearing my GTs a la Patrick Lalime is not the way. I don't want to lose my rotation either.
  5. @coopaloop1234 I hear what you're saying. Anchor points are what keeps things where they should. If I had rubber joints, I wouldn't need slack on the toe-ties as I wouldn't need to have my toes pointing down in the ice to be comfortable and tear the shit out of my ligaments. I might just go back to my Pro-Laces at this stage.
  6. First pic is how I wear mine. Second pic is Bones (the popular EBUG) in his Trues. His toe-ties has more slack then mine I believe, his pads are loose and he has no professor strap that I know, and yet his knee blocks remain level no matter how he moves or when he drops. I don't get it. @DL42 I agree about how the industry thinks sometimes. They try to be the next best thing instead of doing the smart thing. I think Warrior realized this and why they went back to a more conventional strapping on the G7 line.
  7. @CPage I'd be curious to see that. What knee pads do you use and doesn't that affect the professor strap, or vice versa?
  8. Couldn't find a thread so here goes. If you're going to ask about, make sure to mention brand/model/size and which part(s) are you talking about (knee/calf/boot/toe-ties or a combination). I'm wearing Warrior GT2 in 35+1.5. They fit fine. I strap them like Chris Dudo does (nylon strap across the knee, neoprene strap below to calf and of course the large calf wrap). My toe-ties is as pictured below. My question is: how can guys/gals wear their toe-ties with so much slack and not have your pads ride lower than normal? They seem to stay in place still. I don't have skinny calves by any means. I put back in my boot straps (mind you loosely) to prevent the pads from sliding down too much and risk landing too high on my knee block when dropping. Is there a trick I've yet to be aware of?
  9. You could also try those hockey socks with the round padded discs sewn over the ankle bones to further create a lock by taking up space.
  10. @mik if you want to give some historical reference reading with a touch of fiction involved, might I recommend SHIKE by Robert Shea. It's a 2 book series and is set in feudal Japan. A friend and i checked out some of the stories anecdotes and they matched very closely to the time period and records. Worth reading, but hard to find, unless reprints have been released.
  11. Honestly Coop, even with the oldest of cowling skates from the 70s-80s, the outside of the boot didn't cover much either. Then again, guys back then rarely tried to bank shots off your PLU, instead opting for the pass back into the slot. The way it's played today, most goalies would be in the RVH or at the very least VH. Like you said, it happens so rarely but when it does...sonofabi#%^!
  12. I own the older X700 model, an entry model just like the GSX. Unless Bauer went and did something different, these entry modes are nowhere as stiff as their top model. I baked mine twice in the same season I bought them at the shop and the rest was just break-in time. Of course, if I compare them to my Reactor 3000 I owned in 1988, my X700 are way stiffer. In saying that, there's really nothing stopping you from trying the cellophane wrap to help contain the shape on your feet/ankles while they cool down. Clearly you'll have to get someone familiar with the method as time is the key given they usually bake both skates at the same time and wrapping would take longer thus giving the chance for the second skate to start cooling down in the meantime. Makes sense? Have you tried different lacing techniques to help with the lace bite? One of them also makes the boot a little more forward flexible but then again, if you want an absolutely tight wrap at the ankle, your obviously going to lose that flex. Do you have weak ankles or balance issues? There are ways to strengthen these muscles, a couple minutes here and there during the week would help improve that.
  13. I came across these 2 pictures while looking for used Hyperlite chests and this bothered me quite a bit. This should not be happening. I can see why the Mach and Pro series arms are preferred by many. The elbows should not be out of the side walls like that. Is this an issue with other brands as well? I never saw this before, not with any of the chest and arms I've used over the years.
  14. With recent downtime for me (lost my job), I've tried to do a little more reading. First book is about an Ottawa government scientist who is assigned an unusual and demanding project up north to study wolf population. His sense of humor and deep sarcasm towards our Canadian government is often spot on and very entertaining. Second book, I decided to dig out some of my sports psychology literature cause I've been going through a difficult losing streak in goal and im hoping to find my mental edge again. I know it's martial arts based but the discipline approach is very similar.

    Beer

Had a big thirst couple weeks ago and so I Squatched it with this It wasn't bad.
  16. @ThatCarGuy so no backdoor look issues? And I asked about the jerseys only cause I'd hate to not be able to wear my Rockets practice jersey anymore. And for anyone...if you compare the G5 + senior to the X3 + senior?
  17. Bringing this back. I know some of you have used it. Unfortunate that no one answered @nyislesfan I'm interested in feedback and experience on the shoulder floaters, the shoulder caps...ie vision, mask interference, reaching your mask, gut/chest traps and finally, current pro jersey fit, please and thank you.
  18. Are you in a smaller size pants? What I mean is, for myself, If untucked, I would go medium so my c/a can still offer a bit of wrap near the ribs and not catch at the front. Otherwise I'd be in XL and just tuck.
  19. Hellebuyck to me is the most sound goalie when you consider technique. Sure he sometimes has to scramble or dive but he makes everything else look simple, almost boring lolll. I like watching his game. It would be a whole new topic/thread in itself, but it would be very interesting to discuss the in-depth history of the butterfly. To this day, I can't recall who was the first guy to do a butterfly slide in a game. Knee straps were on the outside of the knee block and made sliding near impossible. It had to be timed with Pete Smith putting out the Vaughn Velocity pads. There had to be some closed door discussions between him and a pro somewhere. If you were still using toe straps and buckles, your pads wouldn't rotate either. It would torque the ankles like a M$%^%*. I don't miss that small transition period.
  20. Going down that path or idea, Scott Clemmenson was kinda different from the new crops of the 2010+ period. He had a more hybrid approach to his game, resembled Brodeur now and then.
  21. I remember him. Thinking back, for me he fell into the Liut, Lindburg, Fuhr category. Been a long time since I've seen these guys play so only watching old reels would help bring back the memories.
  22. I see all those old pics and I can literally smell all that leather gear full on. Ah the memories
  23. As it stands in my books, being of the era that best reflects these type of goalies, the following tendies have clearly demonstrated that it's not how you look doing it but rather that you get the job done. As said by one of these featured goalies here in this thread (lets see who you might guess), quote: "I'd rather look ugly making a save then to look pretty and getting scored on". For myself, I've noticed that when you try to be too perfect in style, you sometimes hinder your chances more than anything. Great goaltending looks boring. Sloppy makes for occasional flashes of greatness Seeing how most goalies today are more or so cookie cutouts of each other and the only things that might set them apart are physical appearance and stats. My list is quite short. I really tried to rack my brain to find more but alas, these guys are very much in a league of their own. Sure, you could attribute the style of the 80s as a whole group of trend setters of their time, then again the same could be said of the goalies from the 40s and 50s, as well of todays goalies, but no one really stands out. So here's hoping you old foagies can dig up some more from the archives and add to my list. I'm sure many will disagree with me and that's fine. Having played the old game and coming into the new the past 35 years, for me, these guys had a little something more that made them different from the rest. And so, I name Dominic Hasek and Tim Thomas the 2 most unorthodox goalies of the past...oh, 30, 50 years?
