  1. Lost my winter league championship game two weeks ago. It was a close game until the last five minutes of the third (the go-ahead goal was scored on a five on four after killing the preceding five on three, and they scored a breakaway about a minute later), so losing wasn't too bad. What sucked was having to play a double header that night, for which my team (and I) were less than sober. haha

  2. Had a double header tonight, starting with the winter league final. Lost both, but the boys brought two thirties of Labatt. haha

  3. Now this is my kind of thread... When it comes to beer, I generally don't discriminate. My favorite microbrews are Wicked Weed's Freak of Nature double IPA (Asheville, NC),  Greenbrier Valley Brewing Co.'s Wild Trail pale ale (Maxwelton, WV), and Chestnut Brew Works' Halleck pale ale (Morgantown, WV). But I mostly keep Miller Lite or Labatt (and a couple different bourbons) stocked at the house. After hockey beers are generally whatever my teammates buy for that week.

bough my goalie a new 1X chesty to replace is X900.  He liked the X900 but he'd out grown it and it wasn't padded enough for the level of hockey he plays.  So we upgraded him to the 1X.  According to him the feel was pretty much the same.  Wasn't crazy about the arm setup in that you can't adjust them at all.  Seems a little strange to me really.

Anyway, about a month later (not a lot of ice times), the arms have started pulling apart completely from the body.  Picture doesn't do a great job of illustrating it, but one arm is almost completely off.  This is probably just a one off bad stitching job, but to be honest I could see this being a common failure point with this unit.  There really isn't all that much holding this together.  My cheap Jofa shoulder pads I paid $49 for have more substance to the stitch.  Anyway, good on local prohockeylife, they took it back and let us flip into a different chesty..

This happened to my Bauer chest protector, but only after years of use. Because I couldn't take mine back, I used skate laces to tie the arms back to the body. It has been holding up well since then.

  5. New skates, Stepsteel, and Superfeet have finally arrived!  Here are some teasers until I do a review in a month or so.  Out of the box, the skates fit and feel perfect; I can't wait to get them baked and skate in them this weekend!

Look around locally first for sure. I know there used to be quite a few guys in the states that would do refurbs. I know Warwick does them. But I'm not sure if that's only their masks... or others as well. Last I looked I know Ray was done doing refurbs but was still making foam kits. That's always an option too.

If you can't find anyone and would be willing to ship your mask north of the border, PM me and let me know what you're looking to have done.

    Thanks, @craig; will do.

Doug Wager of Weasel Head Custom Designs does refurbs as well.  He is in the Philly area I believe.

Also, thanks @SaveByRichter35. I guess I will have someone else reach out to him via Facebook because I don't have (and don't want) one.

Ah. OK. I'm in Ontario, might be too much of a pain. Does anyone in the States still refurb?

@craig, I fully expect to have to ship my mask somewhere for the refurb. The question is more turnaround and cost.

@SaveByRichter35, thanks for the heads up. I don't have Facebook (I know, shocking), so I'll likely reach out through his website.

usually a refurb includes the hardware, padding, etc...  I didn't deal with Ray directly, but I have an Eddy Custom Kevlar that he did the refurb on for someone else.  Looks brand new.

Thanks for the response, that is definitely good to know.

Are those Outsider Straps on the backplate? If so, how do you like them?

I would also like to know your thoughts on the outsider straps (or the like). My backplate straps are gross and need to be replaced.

@craig, I am currently located in eastern panhandle of West Virginia (about an 1.5 hours from Washington DC).

  9. Has anyone had their mask refurbished by New Image Goalie Masks? If you have, I'd appreciate hearing about your experience. I have a Bauer Profile 960 that needs some TLC. Once it's refurbished, I plan on swapping out all the hardware, most of which is rusted over, and installing Maltese padding and new backplate straps to complete the makeover.

It's refreshing to hear goalies giving the CCM brand a try in skates. They've lacked in forward progression and/or evolving their goalie skates for the last few years but their latest lines are now being competitive. Now you might have to change your username, eh?

Because "Bauer" is my surname (unfortunately no relation to the owners of Bauer hockey), my username will likely remain the same. lol

Believe it or not, I have never worn Bauer skates--only CCM Tacks from back in the day, Graf 750 Goaler Pros, Graf G50 Ultras, and the Reebok 11Ks. Although, I've recently been tempted to try the new Bauer goalie skates, the AS1 teaser photos and updated cowling have kept me at bay.

  11. Just pre-ordered a pair of CCM Tacks AS1 goalie skates and step steel to replace my Reebok 11k goalie skates with Bauer Supreme One100 cowlings. I'm looking forward to the increased attack angle!

Im getting the 1x pads but I’m am not sure what is better for the pad the 1s knee pads or the 1x knee pads

Although I've only used them for one skate thus far, I would recommend the 1X knee pads. Over the last year, I have tried numerous knee pads--Passau, Koho 589 Pro, and CCM KP Pros--and I liked the 1X's the best; they are the most balanced combination of comfort, protection, and mobility. Also, the garter belt is included, if you purchase through GoalieMonkey.

  13. Skated with the Bauer Vapor 1X knee pads tonight, with the matching garter strap, and I can confidently say that they are the best knee pads that I have played with thus far. Proper balance of protection, comfort, and mobility. My only complaint is the garter system makes getting dressed more of a hassle, but beggars can't be choosers.

A couple pics of my two ProTechSports. The Belfour tribute is now a decade old and going great. Just got the 961 clone this year. Love them both.

Paint coming eventually on the 961 once I get bored of the white.

Love the Belfour tribute, and the 961 clone looks good. On a related note, I've never seen another goalie wear 47; great choice.

  15. I ended up buying two pairs to try: a pair of Ottawa pants (fit 3 +2) and a pair of San Jose pants (fit 4 +1). I think I've finally settled on the San Jose pants because the other pair is too long. They'll be replacing an eight-year-old pair of Reebok Premier pants that are falling apart.
