So I got good news and bad news today. Good news: hockey won’t be interfering with my beering for the next several weeks. Bad news: felt a pop in a goalmouth scramble last night. Finished the game (in some discomfort, and at the cost of some VERY soft goals, and a proportionate amount of pride). Saw a Physiotherapist today, and I am the lucky winner of a grade 1 MCL sprain/minor tear. Out for at least 4 weeks. Had a couple of Collective Arts’ Ransack the Universe IPAs tonight to dull the pain (of not being able to play).

Holy shit! This one has a 4.27 average rating on Untappd! Must be a damned good one (though the 42 IBUs is surprisingly low). cheers, fellow beer geek
-
I’m only having one, as I’m playing tonight. Sunday pickup really fucks up my beer consumption... I mean, my ability to support local small business. Anyway, the beer today is Hops & Robbers Grapefruit IPA by Double Trouble brewing.

Ooooh! Le Castor does good work! Big fan! given your tastes, you might like Dominion City Lost Train oatmeal stout. Very nice, and local (they’re in Gloucester/east end of Ottawa)
-
Oh, fuck yes! I’ve had all of those - and they are awesome!!! But no sour ales in your list...?
-
Ah-ha! So this really IS a “goalie-seeking-goalie” kind of site! I knew it!
-
‘Atta boy! Erm... ’Atta bunny...?
-
Damn - as I went to post, I was thinking “shit... bunnyman probably isn’t pinting up at the mo’...Maybe this is a tad insensitive...” Glad to see your favs listed just the same!

So I’m not suggesting that there is a correlation between beer and hockey; I’m straight up saying it. I love both. Sure, maybe there’s years of conditioning behind it, via big brewer advertising, but whatever. So what beer are you drinking? What beer did you/will you/do you drink? Had a great pick up game today (only allowed 4!) Celebrating right now with a “life in the clouds” a hazy NEIPA by Collective Arts. Of course, had I let in 10 or more, it would have been consolation instead of celebration- but the beer would be the same! Lol!

Welcome! That Brian’s set up is sweet. Almost too nice to use for puck stopping! Lol! 30 years a goalie... my hat is off to you. I’m only about 29 years and 10 months behind you.
-
No worries! Thanks for checking just the same!

I'd love to see a pic of what you mean, but you probably don't have that at your ready disposal presently...? Is it just a thin strip then, the entire length of both the top and bottom of the paddle?
-
So standard wear... just like a real goalie! I’ve made it at last! Cheers for the reassurance @TheGoalNet.

“Stick”-ing this in the CCM thread (man, I am hilarious!) because it’s about my CCM foam core stick. As some might know, I’m not playing a ton, and it’s a mix of lessons and pick up games, so maybe a dozen 1-hour skates all told. There seems to be a very small chunk that came out of he paddle. The whole foam core thing is new to me, so I’m not sure if: 1. This is normal wear 2. Is there anything preventative I can/should do here to prevent it worsening? hope the picture is good enough for experts to comment on.

Hey Mads! Thanks for posting! Long distance from Denmark? ?? Cool! Good luck landing a better apprenticeship. Reading between the lines, it sounds like your SO is a keeper (Also for putting up with you! ) I know my wife was a saint even before I decided to play goalie. I’m in no position to advise on pads, but it might be a particular challenge for you being in Europe. I think @Znowleopard recently posted about buying pads...? I think he’s in Belgium...(?) Anyway, welcome! Cheers
-
I’m also a “keep the puck marks” guy -at least the ones that I know are mine! It kinda tells your story of goaltending, right? While I bought my pads brand new, I got the blocker and trapper off a guy on Kijiji. I LOVE them, but I can’t tell which marks are from the other guy, and which are mine (probably only 5% of them are mine anyway-lol!) glad to hear the resurrection is fun!

Hey Izzy! Thanks for posting! I hear ya about wishing you could have started earlier; my start was at age 39 - and that’s just 2 months ago, with wife, kids, mortgage, job... so I’d say you’re winning! Weird how many Ducks fans there are... but then I even find a single Ducks fan to be peculiar- lol! ...for anyone reading these who hasn’t yet introduced themselves, be like Izzy and post! I will give you a “reaction”, which will give you points, which can be redeemed for (pictures of) sweet pro gear! Or cred. Or something... I guess.

Nice comparison photo - you can really see a marked difference from that angle. Better mobility and still great protection? Nice. Me to Brain: commit "Optik C/A" to memory Me to Brain: determine way to pay for new Optik C/A Brain to me:

...not sure this bump has worked out as I had hoped. maybe I need to throw a skate blade or something...?

I think that's called Facebook. Not sure, because I have never had a FB account myself. Personally, I'm waiting for them to have more self-interested millennials with ZERO filter - who are preferably also self-identified foodies and post pics of every meal - as members before I join.
-
Wow - quite chuffed to get this from you, the much-esteemed Mr. @bunnyman666 Sir! Ta! I didn't want to intrude as an unknown noob on your update thread, but I was very touched by your post, and needless to say my thoughts are with you. AND I am thrilled to see that you have decided to continue contributing! Cheers!

Yeah, straight up; this is a bump. I think I've noticed some new members join, and might not be aware of this thread. In this iteration here on the goalie network, it was @Ghostender who started it (thanks!) I think it's great, and I love reading about how people got to being a goalie present-day, where they are/where they're from, and whatever other anecdotes! I have an entry here, as do several other members. Great reading to be had! So why not make an entry yourself... ?
