Anyone know how these compare size wise to Hyperlites?

I went from Medium Hyperlites to 33 20.2 and they are pretty spot on. Not positive how the 20.2 compare to the px3 but I think they were trying to get them to be consistent across the board.

  2. A couple of the Pure Hockey's have a decent selection. I believe the one closest to Mall of America is the one I usually stop at. The Bauer experience store can be hit or miss if they have stuff in stock or not but that is all Bauer. There's also a smaller shop that is attached to one of the rinks that had a surprising amount of goalie stuff called General Sports. Stauber's Goal Crease also has a decent selection of CCM and Vaughn.

I got smoked a couple times in the ribs and arms.  Ended up sticking with my NHL spec CCM

That's too bad. I was debating on ordering a new beefed up Bauer since the pro return Pro I have is a medium body and it's a bit small. But I have felt nothing in the Pro and I wonder if the retail beefed up one's still aren't actually on par with what they are sending out to the pro players.

Let me know how that works out for you - I've had good success with wearing the bottom FRS looser.  IMO you want your ankle to separate a bit from the boot break when you are down, but YMMV

Well I tried tightening it up and ended up going way too tight so about 10 mins in I had to adjust everything. Being that it was mid game I went overly loose with it so I'm back to square one with the FRS strap. I'll probably have to put my knee pads and skates on at home and at least get it back to a more neutral feel for my next skate. I really wish the boot had even the slightest of a channel as I think that is still my issue of not feeling the most connected but I'm sure I will get used to it at some point.

  5. When I had my RX10/one100 set back in the day I had to custom order the 5500 clone (you could also do a 590 or Finn pancake) so I believe the stock glove was different. From what little memory I have the stock offering had a fairly unique feel that I was not a fan of but I don’t know what it would relate to today. I’m guessing you could see if JRZ would make you one or at least give you some insight.

Here ya go, 2nd letter on each pad with a slight angle coming in.  U on the right, R on the left.  Weird way to think about it, and I kinda miss the way I would count the holes in the leather straps back in those days.

Okay, yeah that's right about where I have had mine for the 2 skates I've used them and have had no issues. I figured that was how they were meant to be worn but wasn't sure. I do think I need to mess with my FRS though and tighten up the lower strap on it to get a bit more connected feel.

I received my true 12.2 glove a few weeks ago. 580 pro palm straight out of the box was almost butter.

I’m a little upset I didn’t just go with the pro palm instead of the game ready plus for as well as mine closed right out of the box

Hey guys new user and new owner of True's 20.2 leg pads, not sure if this has come up before and I apologize if so, I ordered the fastslide material on the sliding surfaces.  Have any of you guys had issues with it "grabbing" at the ice almost once its been roughed up?  Took mine out for the first time today and was a little disappointed, any similar experiences or recommendations?

    Thanks,

    Adam

From the limited info I've seen on True's fastslide I think it's some variation of the CCM quickslide and that's why I stayed away from it. After how poorly my Eflex 4s slid on choppy ice I just went with weave on my sliding surface for my True set. It hasn't been as slippery as my Hyperlites were but it's leaps and bounds better than the Eflex's ever were.

Can you measure the perimeter length of the catcher, is the same inch or so off from rule limited 45" as many other gloves are? I like the shape of the 580 but for the few times I've had one on hand they never seem to open wide and remain looking really small. Yes I am a pancake glove lover. 🙃

Finally found the fabric tape. It came right to 45”

    Sweet set. Couple of questions.

    1. How stiff is the thigh rise on the pads?

    2. How’s the glove closure out of the box? And any pictures of how it closes? I was not particularly impressed with my CCM P2 double T 580. But most of what I’ve seen from True it looks like they’re much better.

    1. Straight out of the box the thigh is very stiff. This is me putting a pretty good amount of force with one hand on them and they hardly move.

    2. Glove closure is good. I’ve only used one time so far and that’s about it for break in and it is very smooth. This is a game ready + palm.

Edit: weird, videos seem to embed on mobile but not on desktop. I can’t get the gifs to load for some reason.

The lighter blue you have, what color do they call that on the customizer ? It's really shape almost reminds me of the Winnipeg blue Brian's offers.

That's exactly what it is. True also calls it Winnipeg blue. I wavered back and fourth with regular light blue and this one and I'm really happy I went with the Winnipeg.

  12. I mean Reddit is a minefield of bad information in the goalie subreddit. I've only used pro level gloves so I can't speak to senior level stuff. I know some people complained about the 600 break but I have also only used 580/590 so I have never personally dealt with that issue. I think a big problem is some people are really bad at breaking in gloves. I always try on used gloves at the local play it again sports and don't think I could ever buy a used glove with as messed up as most of those feel.

Has True resolved the usual Lefebvre glove issues? I tried a new full right set of CCM Premier II gloves in the pro shop at one of the rinks in my area, and the trapper was unbelievably stiff. That glove would not open, and closed with great difficulty.  My Reebok Premier 24K regular set still wouldn't open all the way at times, even after 5 years of use for ball hockey.

This will be my 8th Lefevre glove and the only one I ever had any issue with was the Eflex 4 and that it took maybe twice as long as the others to really break in. I really don't know where all complaints about them being super stiff come from.

The one bummer about ordering Vaughn pads stiff is the weight goes up.  My V9 pads are significantly heavier than my squishy VE8 pads.  I don't mind it when playing necessarily but it's definitely a thing.  One of the more attractive attributes of Bauer gear for me is the light weight.

I wouldn't get too hung up on this, at least not on the legs pads. I unfortunately shipped my Hyperlites out about 2 hours before my True set arrived and never put them on a scale but just going off of hand feel you couldn't convince me that a medium Hyperlite was lighter than a 33+2 20.2 pad.

Can you post one more of the blocker? Interested in the

    What are these options.

Kind of looks cheap in these darker colorways that True (Lefevre) doesn't use binding in the double T middle space and reveals the white jenpro core.

Can you measure the perimeter length of the catcher, is the same inch or so off from rule limited 45" as many other gloves are? I like the shape of the 580 but for the few times I've had one on hand they never seem to open wide and remain looking really small. Yes I am a pancake glove lover. 🙃

It's just Lefevre's basic blocker options. You can either get that little piece by the index finger as straight or as curved and with the cuff you either get one that wraps all the way around or is just a half piece but I can snap a couple more pics after work. I'll also see if I can find the fabric tape and measure the glove.

I'm curious, how do you feel about leaving Stabiliflex? Any apprehension or are you happy to be gone?

I have my first skate in these tonight so we'll see if I even notice a difference to be honest. Like @Chenner29 had mentioned in his write up True seemed to stiffen up the knee block on the 20.2 and the nylon strap seems to keep everything better connected than the old elastic did. Personally, I could never get the strapping to my liking on the Hyperlites so I always felt like I was fighting that combined with random under rotation.

Beauties, and always great to see another guy in True.

Tops of the pads will seem very stiff at first, but they settle in and get a little bit of a curve.  Mine feel perfect now

That’s good to hear. My last two sets were Eflex 4 and Hyperlites so when I took these out of the box I was a bit scared by the thighrise stiffness. I really love the soft boot though. The “soft” one on the Bauers was not nearly soft enough for my liking.

Wow, awesome looking set.  Minor aesthetic details I love are the gray Pro Laces and the lighter blue on the outside of the T on the otherwise dark blue back of the glove.  Well done, sir.   What jersey do these go with?

Thanks! Honestly, I currently don’t have any jerseys that go with them. Figured I’d try get an uncrested jets or maybe blue jackets one since those would probably go well.

  19. This is really just an excuse to post some more pictures of my new set but I figured I would post my initial thoughts and specs in case anyone had any questions.

Pads - 33+2. Soft boot, single outer break, nylon knee strap, frs calf.

Glove - 580 break, game ready plus.

Blocker - medium palm, straight finger, half cuff.

Overall these came out better than I could’ve hoped. Every piece feels super high quality and True got every spec correct. The glove already closes well but it will definitely take some time to get used to the 580 since the last time I used one was in high school. The pads feel lighter than my medium hyperlites so I was pleasantly surprised by that but they are much stiffer above the knee so I’m excited to see how they play. Now onto the pics
