  1. Instantly upgrade your save percentage and style points with a Sportsmask gold cage in a Long certified cateye. Fits T3, X8 in Medium, Large, and XL, and should fit Pro 3 and VX-5 models

Used for about half a season, but I prefer cheater cage. No dents.

Sells for $139CAD, but I’ll do $80 CAD plus ship from SW Ontario.

  2. Trying out the half-tuck lately - belly gets tucked and tied, suspenders tucked under shoulder floaters, and sides flaps over top of the pants.

Just did it at a slow-paced skate last night and it was pretty good - kept all the mobility/unity of full tuck but a bit bigger presentation. I also found my arm-to-body seal was better.

Trying it again tonight and will report back, though!

I bought some K1915's pads for my daughter, so I can't comment on the models you are looking at, but in terms of build and material quality they are great. She's worn them 2 years, and the only wear is on the outside calf wrap where some velcro on her knee pads was rubbing. They slide well, and rebounds come off pretty hot. Price wise they are tough to beat, even if the technology might not be keeping up with CCM/Bauer, but I would guess they will last longer than either of those.

Thanks! Yeah - the tech wise is something I'm not too concerned about, more the quality and customization. That's good to know. My main concerns were sliding and rebounds from what I've heard, so I appreciate hearing that.

  4. Hope this captures it - the internal belt on my Warriors velcroes to the "butt pad" on the middle of my pants, and then runs a nylon strap with a triglide through a loop in the middle of the hip part of the pants (both sides). The front flap of the pants has two nylon straps in either direction  that connects to the triglide and is what you would pull on to tension it.

I don't use it (prefer suspenders) but it's pretty effective and holds up.

Where is elite in their product stack? Its their senior line but not their senior pro right?

Middle of the pack between the GSX and Hyperlite/Mach/Shadow. Then there’s the Supreme Pro but that’s a different beast.

I had the same impressions as you @RichMan - seemed decent, but I had the sense I’d need to beef up a few spots. Looked cool but I didn’t feel like it would improve on my GT2, so I’d rather save up a bit longer and get the top end.

Congratulations to you and the future Mrs. Indykrap!

I'm a similar height, but I'm in the opposite boat. I'm more legs than torso. I would still prefer a shorter stick, if only to take away the 7-hole. If the GSX is good, and has full right 24" sticks available, I'll think about buying a pair.

    Thanks @ilyazhito!

looks like there’s been quite a run on these lately - wonder if I should call Cam and ask for a cut.

They do seem well stocked most times though so keep an eye out.

It's also crazy that NHL guys are using NXGs still. Just based off weight, the GSX is in the ballpark. Great stick for the price.

Interesting! Is this one of those "this year's low-end model is yesteryear's pro model"?

I mean, NXG being quite a few years back now.

I've been looking at those and, just like you, I hate the tacky grip on the handles as I do use the poke check as well. The ones I've seen around here are all silver. I had no idea they came in different colours.

The paddle has an odd concave shape to it. Did you find it weird or there's nothing to it?

They go for 120$-140$ I think? Do they still come with a 90 day guarantee?

    How's the vibration?

What's the fastest animal on the planet?

What's the km circumference of the island of Guinea?

    What is.... LOLLL ;) :D

    Let's see here:

1- did not really notice, honestly!

2- got mine for $135.59 CAD shipped from The Hockey Shop in BC, which has lots of colour options

3- from the shots I took I didn't feel any noticeable vibrations, and these guys can shoot pretty hard. I'll update here after I've taken a few more reps with it though.

4- trick question. Peregrine Falcon overall, and in air (incl. diving), Cheetah on land, Sailfish in water

    5- 4366km (2713 in freedom units), 4046km land and 320km water

6- laugh out loud lots lollingly winky big smile

ask me a hard one next time, @RichMan.

  9. Hey all,

Thought I'd post some early impressions on my new GSX stick (pictured on the right). I've definitely been in need of a new one since my beloved 3X went soft on me (left in the picture). I thought about springing for the Elite but my upcoming nuptials mean every dollar counts.

In short, I'm a big fan! It's very, very well balanced - a few guys on my team said it felt lighter in the hand than their (obviously lighter) player sticks, but more importantly it feels solid and stable in my stance. Great puckhandling with the P31 curve which gives it a nice lift on clearing and handling when you want it. Stick saves came off nice and hot and ramped up into the corners. I also like that it doesn't have any kind of grippy material, which I find on other sticks interfered with my Warrior G5 blocker so I usually sanded off. I like a bit of grip that I use tape for but keep the rest smooth as I love a good poke check (who doesn't!).

Size-wise, I'm 6'0 (all torso) and use a 24" intermediate stick. I made this change on recommendations from a lot of people from a 26" a few years ago and haven't looked back. I have a Warrior 25" (M1 SR+) and the size lines up more or less.

Durability will of course need to be assessed over time, but if it's anything like the 3X I should be able to get at least a year out of it playing twice or more a year.

My God, do you also leave yourself mints or chocolates on the gear bag when you're done? 😁😉😋

Kudos for the extra mile 😎

You gotta treat yourself sometimes, y’know?

  11. Hey all - anyone using the new Kenesky stuff? Either the K2015 or Legend series. Mulling my options for the next set and they're local to me, so I was thinking it would be a good option. Seems like a solid product but no idea how it is on-ice.

  12. Not the prettiest setup, but it works.

    My post-game routine is:

    • Spray everything down with Febreze antibacterial
    • Skates, glove (propped open), blocker, knee pads, and neckguard go in the rocket dryer
    • Mask gets a wipe down, back straps get a wringing out with paper towel, mask is laid down in the middle rack with opening facing out (for airflow)
    • Pads laid down as pictured
    • Chesty and pants hung up for maximum airflow on the internals
    • Fan on full blast on mask, pads, chesty, pants
    • Laundry (base layers, socks, jersey, sweatband, towel) goes in once everything is hung up and going. Usually throw in whatever's in the laundry bin as well for bonus points with the GF
    • Once laundry is done in the dryer (~2hrs total), chesty and pants go in the rocket dryer and runs overnight
    • Glove gets tied shut with a softball in the pocket till the next game
    • Everything stays hung up where it's at until the next game

Most hands-off and effective approach I've ever taken, and tucked in the corner of the basement so it's out of the way. I'd love to get the full stall rocket dryer or an equivalent but they're expensive and this works fine enough for me and I can have fresh gear the next day.

Here's a good side by side of an Iconik pad with a stiffer core and a stock core.

Brians is going a bit in the opposite direction than most and applying a more aggressive curve to their stiffer pads and having a straighter profile for their more flexible pads.

I'm going to make an assumption and say it's the same concept applied between the Optik 3 and the x3's.

Makes sense. I really really like the idea of a stiff pad with that aggressive curve, so that’s definitely helpful to start narrowing down options.

  14. Just curious - do Brian's mid-range line not have as aggressive of a pre-curve? Comparing Optik x3 (mid-range) to Optik3 (top line) online and it seems pretty noticeable, but it's just online photos so I'm not sure.

the first pads with the primo are the Optik3s and the white are not.

  15. Thinking it over I'm probably just going to sew a layer on top of the existing flaps instead of a new one. I really like the existing mobility and think that one that snuck through was more of a one-off (and is a very covered spot normally).

I use a Warrior Warrior Ritual X3 E+ and right above the bicep is pretty bad on these. I should also look at beefing it up. The only other problem I ever had was rib shots when I'm doing a desperation save. I did use a Vaughn Velocity V9 Padded Goalie Compression Shirt to solve that issue but it is a pain to maintain it (every comb pad has to be manually removed and put in), and I overheat wearing any undershirts.

Same here - I run hot so I'd prefer to keep the under layer light. I'll post here what I come up with.

  17. This is the exact mod I need to make, @ArdeFIN. Took a nice shot to that open spot that gave me a big bruise, and I really don't want to get a new chestie (RGT2 is super mobile and good elsewhere) but that seems to be a known weak spot.

Looking at the newer models now, they really seem to have beefed up that spot and added extra padding. I'll have to do some digging and see what I can find. Thanks for all the pics and reference material!
